I think you right HDvids4all, setting it up on the Harmony for all Activities sounds like a better idea. I will doing this for sure.

And now for an update!

Tapped and mudded (is that a word?) the upper part of the soffit, just the seams and screws. Finally received all the plugs and adapters to finish all the minor details.

Here is a pic of the new Powerbridge and finished audio video connector/receptacles.



Here is the Grafik Eye fully installed. (That was the hardest part of the build, shoving all those wires into the 3 gang box)

Sanded and slapped on another layer of mud on the upper portion of the soffit this morning. I also masked off the room in preparation for the texture guy Saturday morning. Just have to mask the slider and the window. I even taped all the base boards... Might as well paint after he is done right?? Would there be any reason why I shouldn't??

More sanding and mudding... Will it ever end?!?! Mudded the ceiling edge, it was very difficult in the corners due to the amount of room I had to work. I think it will turn out good. Taped EVERYTHING off, after the final sanding, I will be ready for the texture guy to show up.

Here is a pic of the screen wall... Notice the center channel... Had to move it over, didn't want to spend the money to have the wall reframed. The way I built the soffit above the screen wall, leaves room to build a false wall in the future.



Found this on the web. Its a beautiful sky mural at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Vegas. This is a better mural that I will try and have replicated.

Thanks Badgerpilot... The texture guy showed up a little while ago. I'm very excited to see the soffit finished. I stayed up until 2am last night putting the final touches on the room. Woke up this morning and sanded some last minute areas.

I also went to Lowes yesterday and chose a color scheme. The walls will be Oatmeal, and the trim/doors will be Brown Suede.

Still have yet to choose the theater seats... I've been pondering a set of 4 Berkline Tangiers 13175's. But I really like the Cyrus Theater Collection seats, I could only fit 3 and they are individual seats which is a turn off. Just missed out on a $75 off coupon over at HTMarket... No biggie, they have deals all the time.

The stage and carpeting will probably the next item on the list of to do's though.

Well the texture is complete. He did a wonderful job, I believe it was the best $200 I've spent on the theater room yet. I'm very happy with how the texture hides my minor imperfections. Especially my patch jobs along the speakers and the Grafik Eye.

I cant wait to prime and paint. But I need to finish the soffit. I will be installing 1X1 45 degree backers to support the crown molding similar to my final mockup here...

On top of the 1X1, I will finish it off with 1/4 masonite to support the rope lighting and eventual black lights.

Update

I just got done painting the first coat of the sky blue ceiling. I also just ordered my theater seats... A set of 4 Berkline 13175's which will fit perfectly in my theater. With 5 inches of elbow room from either wall.

I'd say 2 solid weeks @ 12 hour work shifts was needed to complete the soffit... Still not done though. I have to sand the texture on the bull nose, prime, paint and add the crown molding, then paint those as well to fully complete the soffit. All the hard work is starting to really pay off. I catch myself staring at the soffit/ceiling at times.

Can't wait until the sky mural is done.

Looking at your build, a lot of thought and ingenuity has gone into your build also. I agree, your ceiling looks like it was a real headache.

Do you guys think a 7.2 surround in my room is doable??

I was thinking about adding rear surrounds next to the double doors... What do you guys think?? Or would they be to close together?? Eventually I want to have those double doors rehung to open the other direction.

I tried to show a "cut away" view of the soffit. In the midst of putting in the final touches. Should only be a few days away of some new, freshly painted pictures. Stay tuned.

All primed, near ready to paint. Got the 45 degree crown molding supports in place and ready for the molding installation.

Is there a DIY crown molding jig that you guys know about?? I'd like to make one myself, seems as though the angles for corners are tricky to say the least.

I HATE CROWN MOLDING!!!

That was really difficult. I bought the Kreg Jig Crown Molding tool... Didn't work with my miter saw. Had to add a couple pieces of masonite to the wall of the saw to accommodate the height of the crown molding. I do no recommend the molded foam crown molding, to many imperfections to deal with. But... I turned out FREAKIN SWEET!!! I cannot beleive that "I" built this room. I guess I did learn a few things growing up watching my Dad. I can't wait to show you guys... I will be painting this weekend, I may finish... I'm not sure.

By the way... Media Browser "Titan" is in beta, getting ready for a public RC. For those of you that may use Media Browser. I'm one of the Beta testers... Haven't been able to test this build though... My theater isn't done, and my 56" DLP died a couple weeks ago (being repaired tomorrow). Media Browser "Titan" is shaping up to be a killer release. There is a plugin releasing with Titan... Its called Media Browser Trailers. I've tested it quite a bit and is freaking sweet. It will play custom intros and trailers before your movies starts. The icing on the cake for us dedicated theater enthusiasts.

Yeah... the crown was a pain. Had to fix one junction today... even though it isn't perfect... it still looks great!

Finished painting the walls today... love the color (oatmeal)... can't wait to paint the molding and doors. This room is really looking nice.

Painted the walls... the screen wall is flat black. Hung the projector and screen... even though the pj is a 1/2 inch lower, the projected image is still good. Used audessy to tune the speakers. All I need to do is paint the trim and doors. I will post some pics Tuesday... when I get my Berkline Tangiers. The room is getting close to completion.
