I just stumbled on the UD5005 on Marantz USA's website, They dont offer a whole lot of spec info. I was wondering if anyone here had any more knowledge. Seems like a good price for a universal player. One thing that has me intrigued is wether or not it decodes True HD and DTS MA internally, couldn't tell from Marantz' website. If anyone has anything, PLEASE DO TELL!

Same high end funai built machine as the denon dbp-1611, but $100 more and with 3 yr warranty.

Both look very promising when paired with an avr with a good scaler if the 1611 and 5005 retain their source direct mode.

I guess my specific question about this unit is whether or not it only sends True HD/dts MA via bitstream or if it will decode internally and send out an uncompressed signal via multi channel LPCM to my receiver over hdmi. I have an sr5002 which will accept multi channel 7.1 LPCM, it just doesn't have built in True HD/ dts MA decoders. I hate to think about replacing this receiver because it has been a champ so far.

As of right now My El Cheepo Sony bdp-s360 decodes internally and is performing admirably. What tickles my fancy about the UD5005 Is that it seems like a great way to get into SACD without paying 1K and up and that one player would handle all.

Somebody please get one of these in the next couple of months and start an official thread!!!!!!!!!!!

It will. So will most other players these days.

I'm not very discerning when it comes to Blu-Ray PQ - all the players I've seen have been more than satisfactory to my eyes.

I'm more of a sit in a chair and listen to music for hours type of guy, so:

The question for me on this new Marantz unit is - will this be the player to beat for 2 channel analog SACD playback under $500?

Will the analog audio outputs be better engineered than the comparable Denon unit?

+1 on this question for me, Even if I continue to watch blu Ray through my sony unit, Im very intrigued by this Marantz players SACD capability. Everything else (used even) seems incredibly pricey for folks like me who are beginners in the SACD market. If you happen to know, anyone, please chime in

Doubt the denon and marantz will really sound any different in normal use.

Damn, that's a great looking player. Def has some Oppo influence on its aesthetics. Will be interesting to see how it performs...

Before worrying about the analogue stage, first find out if it does DSD direct. If it doesn't do that, then what about the DSD-PCM conversion, more specifically if it's only CD quality 44.1kHz sampling rate. Read the Denon 1611 thread if you're not aware of this. If it's only 44.1kHz you might just as well listen to a good CD player.

PS. I know some people believe you can't distinguish CD from SACD or 44.1kHz and higher sample rates but this is by no means a consensus.
Thanks for the info - didn't know the Denon players do that to DSD.

If the Marantz does the same, it will be a deal killer.

I'd love to know what it does converting SACD to PCM via HDMI as I have the Portta PET4000 HDMI switch/audio de-embedder (has coax and toslink out) and an outboard Bryston DAC. I've already verified the Portta can pass 192kHz. I have a modded Oppo BDP-83 (which is limited to 88.2kHz and it gets upsampled in the DAC to 176.4) and I like what I hear going through the DAC better vs. the analog outs for SACD.

Any idea when soon is?

I am waiting on this as well and is supposed to be released in August 2010 and the Flagship unit in September, so any day now. It will be my first BluRay and I really wanted the Universal with the NetReady features. I linked the manual for those interested.

Wow, I did not know these were being made by Funai. I was thinking about going with the 1611 as I want a universal player with NetFlix, but the Fuani part worries me.

I sent a note to Marantz last week asking when the product was going to be released as it had been advertised as August 2010. I received a reply today saying that the product launch is now going to be Dec 2010 or Jan 2011.

So were Denon's 2011 and Onkyo's 807/808. Personally I will never buy any of these "high-end" Funai units. I won't mind the lower end ones like Phillips/Toshibas though since they are so cheap.

I feel the same way, wish Oppo would add Netflix.

Maybe next time, I bought a Sony BDP-s770 on closeout. It does SACD. Not missing much.
Closeout??????

Don't think so.
Yes, according to the dealer I bought it from, the s770 is being "blown out" by Sony. Also it's not in their main lineup on SonyStyle web site unless you search for its specific model number. Shame because the front panel and remote are much nicer than the 570/470/370.

Anyway Marantz is too late.

Saw a nice Cambrige Audio universal player though
post #24 of 120
I have the Marantz UD5005. I can't seem to get SACD audio output to the Analog out. I can only get DSD stream through HDMI. CD, DVD-Audio and other formats seem to output to the Analog fine. Any body confirm that SACD works through Analog out on the UD5005?

If you mean Azur 650BD, it seems to be a twin brother of Oppo BDP 80 inside, and should perform alike. Just the price is about double of Oppo

What is the loading time of a DVD?

26 seconds to bootup and eject tray
13 seconds to load DVD

Found out this player can't do dsd bitstream and analog at the same time. Have to set hdmi audio to PCM or off before the analog out works. Not sure if this is standard on all sacs players.

Hi,

Can it play FLAC audio files from a disc or USB or stream them via DLNA?

Thanks
I don't have any Flac files. All my loss-less files are WAV or apple loss-less.

Hi,

Okay thanks for responding. If you're ever so inclined to verify, you can download one of the shorter FLAC files from here to try if you scroll down the page a bit...

I'll keep looking around in reviews for a confirmation though too.

Thanks
