How are the load times on Java intensive discs such as Pirates of The Carribean? Which ABT chip does the 5005 have? Is menu responsiveness snappy or sluggish? It's a sexy looking device but I'm having trouble finding out any info.

Load times are just acceptable. Not so speedy, but acceptable.
There's no ABT-Chip in the unit - so the marantz-website says. I could not identify the chip, because it sits under a big heatsink. Some dealers say, that there is a ABT-1030, but I don't believe in advertising and couldn't find any additional chip on the mainboard.
Menu responsiveness is ok.

Hmmmm....Marantz seemed to be really pushing their reduced load times in their official spec descriptions. I wonder if they're on par with the Oppo or PS3? How many seconds from power on til the disc tray opens would you say?

Uhh - booting is very slow. About 25 seconds until the message "No disc" on the display...
I think, thats because its checking internet-connection (and firmware-update?) and BD-Live-memory at startup...
Load-times (bluray) are similar to the Oppo BDP-83, slightly slower...

Recently noticed it was available from a few online retailers, but now it is back to soon status. I wonder what the reason is. I was going to purchase right after X-Mas but now I have to wait.
Will keep an eye on reviews and also look harder at the OPPO.

There seems to be a problem with the loader. Its making a whirring noise during BR-playback.
In Germany's "Hifi-Forum" are some complaints about this issue, also for the twin-model "Denon DBP-1611UD".

Yeah some places had it as of yesterday & were shipping them out. I'm sure the players are literally just hitting the street so it'll be hit & miss on availability over the next few weeks. I have really high hopes for the 7005 which is now officially the 7006 according to the official Marantz site. I recently purchased the Marantz SR 7005 receiver and their new player sure would look good paired up with it. That's if it's up to snuff technically.

I was just at the website and found no SR7006 (receiver) or AV7006 (pre) listed.

What gives?

Mine has froze three times already. Playing CD, dvd and sacd too. Anybody else having this problem? Looks like some qc issues. Hopefully update fixes issues.

Last night I was watching netflix via streaming and the ud5005 just decided to shut off??? I went over to look at the power button and it was flashing intermently.. no real pattern of flashes almost like a wire connection was loose. I unplugged it for 10 seconds plugged it back in and then the power light flashed six times in a pattern and shut off. I couldn't get it to turn on... I unplugged the unit for a few minutes as i went to get my warranty info as i'd planned on sending it in. After a bit i plugged it in and everything seemed to work again. I don't know what is going on here but I expect way better from marantz with regards to quality of equipment.

Could someone with a UD5005 please let me know what resolution PCM is output from SACDs over HDMI? I have a receiver that cannot decode DSD, and so I would need the UD5005 to convert the DSD to PCM. I'm wondering, though, whether it converts it to 88.2 or 176.4 kHz PCM.

Per the manual, page 10...

Super Audio CD's DSD signal cannot be output.[sicigital coax jack] Also, during CD layer playback, 44.1kHz/16-bit Linear PCM is output.

And from page 5...

If the connected HDMI device does not support DSD, the signal is output as Linear PCM.
If a DSD signal is output from the HDMI output terminal, the signal output from the analog audio output terminals is muted.

So, looks like you'll be getting 44.1/16-bit on the coax out.

Unfortunately that does not help. You seem to be assuming that the UD5005 can output PCM only through the digital coax jack. That is not true. It can also send PCM over HDMI, and HDMI is capable of handling a much higher resolution than 44.1 kHz. I want to know what resolution PCM gets sent over HDMI when the receiver or prepro to which it's connected cannot decode DSD.

24/96 over HDMI. But I only use DSD or analog out.

My understanding is that DSD can only be converted to PCM at 44.1, 88.2, or 176.4 kHz.

Do you have a UD5005? If so, could you temporarily switch from DSD output to PCM to see what your receiver or pre/pro reports?

Hi all

I just got my 5005 last night, may I know do anyone have 24P output problem with 5005? I have tried connect the 5005 with my TV and projector either via HD AV AMP or directly, but I still can't output the flame rate at 24/1080P.

I have also set the resolution: source direct/1080P/108024P and mode 24P on or off, but can't solve the problem.

I have no such problem with my prevoius player S350, also tried oppo 83 and Cambridge Audio Auzr 650BD.

Anyone can help?

Thanks. I was hoping for 176.4. I'll go for the one of the Sony Blu-Ray/SACD players instead.

I can't say for all, but yes they do. My SCD-XA5400ES switches between both circuits.

Overall still deciding between this and the OPPO!
I did notice the price from many of the sellers has gone up about $100.

There is a Region Free hack for units sold in Europe. Anyone know of a hack sold in North America? I may give up some of the Oppo 93 performance to match my Marantz NR1501 Receiver's great looks.

This must be the least talked about current release Blu-ray player there is. Close anyways. I'm wondering if it's fairly solid without any issues per se. I might purchase one and the additional cost (say over a Panasonic DMP-BDT110) doesn't scare me too much. However, I'd like to know if it performs almost as well.

I have a pannasonic 310 pretty cool unit performs for me great. But wanted a universal player for my sacd and dvd audio collection si i tried the dennon 1611. to me better pq audio and pic control. love the sacde and dvd-a over hdmi. I am going to return it to bb as I have a loval dealer who is giving me a good deal on the 5005 and I like the styling better.

You probably do not see as much activiy as the dennon is almost the Identical twinn just at least $100.00 cheaper on list and more actual market. The marantz and dennon do not have but netflis and you tube for streaming the pannys offer a lot more in that area. I probably wiill keep my panny or sell it and get a roku. I reallly like VUDU HD. for new movie rentals. With a full cable pkg I do not use netflix anymore

I have used several of the latest generation Panasonic Blu-ray players and like them a lot. I'm using a Roku 2 for streaming (in the den) and outside of VUDU it has everything and pretty much at the highest quality that's offered.

I have a dedicated screen room (only used a few times a month) that I'm about to redo and decided to throw a Marantz SR6005 receiver in there. The extra for the UD5005 is fine as long as I wouldn't be giving up performance... I try to keep plastic out of there as much as possible.

I do not think you will, that is why I am returning the dennon and getting the 5005 although as i said I do like the pannasonic 310

Just saw the player today at BB and was wondering if you got the player yet william06.

The other day I saw it there myself and it was nice seeing it in person. I'm still trying to talk myself into it over the more or less free Panasonic DMP-BDT110 (I picked one up at Fry's for $79 - minus Avatar sale) and the Oppo BDP-93. If I could stack them I'm pretty sure I'd bite but both of the Marantz manuals state you shouldn't... not that I use my room all that often or long. He completely bypasses Blu-ray image but here's a short review of its twin the Denon DBP-1611UD... compared to the OPP0.

Current take is the Blu-ray image will be similar however long term support the OPPO will be the winner. In this room I don't care about Internet streaming options but OPPO looks to be stronger for local playback. So if I plan on keeping it a while OPPO is the obvious choice (over the Marantz). The Panasonic being free makes purchasing either seem rather silly.

My Marantz UD5005 failed after three months of use. It sounds like a mechanical drive failure.

The customer service from Marantz was the worst I have ever experienced and as a result we regret our purchase.
