Blu-ray SPDIF to PC speakers?

Hi, not sure if this is the best place for this question (maybe it should be in the audio section), but since it's HTPC-related, I thought it might be here.

I want to hook up a Blu-ray's audio out to my PC because it has a 5.1 speaker system attached to it. Basically, I want to use my PC as a receiver and have audio pass through it from an external player to the speakers.

I saw a post where someone wanted to do something similar but with an Xbo 360 to PC speakers, but issues with Dolby Digital vs PCM came up and I don't know if the issue was resolved.

Here's the system I want to use:
Abit K8T800 AV8 (old mobo, I know)
Windows XP Pro
2gb RAM

I don't have the blu-ray player yet, as I want get some feedback as to whether or not this is actually possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your PC will need to have an SPDIF input to do that. Otherwise, you can just connect the blu-ray directly to the speakers.

You can connect S/PDIF directly to speakers????

If this is your motherboard, then your back panel has toslink in and out so it should be able to do depending on the software installed.

I noticed when I try to change the SPDIF settings, it says that the 'audio in' setting is locked, and only SPDIF audio out is available. Anyone know how to fix this?
