any ideas why i cannot edit the backlight? The remote skips over that field
post #1682 of 4768
GEN II you need to go into tv settings, picture, more, advanced picture and turn off Ambient Light Sensor. The sensor is supposed to automatically adjust the backlight based on the light in the room. Be warned that this tv is extremely bright when this is turned off hense the only 13 backlight from cnet settings.

Thanks, I find the CNET settings to dark

Thank you for a non-smart ass comment. I looked both places for a good amount of time and couldn't find it. IF you happen to come across it again, please hit me up with a link.

ThanX!

Edit: Anyone know if this set will display true 24p if the 24p option on the PS3 is set to on or automatic? (And of course if the source material is 24p.)

Has anyone else had this happen? It has only happened two times since I got the tv a week ago. Other than that the tv is great! Any help would be appreciated as I have 30 days to return if needed

Welcome to the thread. See you have already helped someone. THAT'S GREAT!

What model do you have. Our 553's do not have a "cloudy flash of white light around the edges" when they shut down. Goes directly to black. Believe that is worth a call to Vizio Tech Support.

Do not know why your set shuts off by itself. But we have had posters whose sets have turned on by themselves, but have not heard back from them as to how that problem was resolved.

One should always be leery of a floor model. They can get pretty abused. I have purchased them and am batting about 50/50. Hope you have good luck with yours.

Not aware of any of the "3" SERIES being discontinued, but rumors always show up here as well.

Has anyone figured out how to use the bluetooth remote Keyboard with the PS3?

I saw a new Vizio 42" 3D, 480hz version today @ Sam's. Does anyone know if the new model is still local dimming?

Please don't double post. You have already created a new Thread for this question.

Thanks Tom! I called tech support and they said it was normal for the tv to have the flash when turned on. I have the xvt423sv. They couldn't tell me why it shut off randomly and couldn't send a technician out since the problem doesnt happen all the time. I checked my local SAMs and one store has 5 in stock. I will try to return and get the same price if they don't know it was a floor model. If not I will pay a little extra for the brand new one. The only reason I bought a floor model was due to the great price and they didnt have any in stock. I love the tv and cod black ops looks amazing with no noticeable lag. If I have to pay extra I will not get the 3 year extended warranty since vizio tech support for 1 year seems pretty good.

I asked the same thing in the "remote control" forum. It would be nice to even just use the play, rewind, ffw, and pause for the PS3. Being able to use the keyboard would be spectacular.

Hey Kevin, just FYI, my new model 553 randomly shuts off and i need to put a call into tech support to see if they have any troubleshooting to run through. I am on the latest firmware, but at least once per week it shuts off and does the white / orange / white flashing thing. I also bought it new from costco, so i can always take it back if needed.

Halo reach looks amazing on it as well and i don't really notice any lag.

Ill be interested on what they say. Mine also does the white/orang flashing when it did it. Great to hear reach looks great too. This is my first lcd tv and am very happy with it. I was werry about playing 360 on it as some have mentioned bad lag. I have had no problems what so ever. I am actually playing better on this tv because I can see them sooo far away on any level. On my old tv (crt) I could barely see the people before they killed me, espically on snowy levels. I only have sd basic cable but am suprised with the picture. It is pretty good excpt for these black bars. I know that it has to do with how the content is shot but every channel/network is different. some shoot in 16:9 and some shoot wider causing the bars. To me it is rediculous that everyone these days is buying a flat screen tv and the networks dont shoot in the supported formats. Even on my friends hd channels he gets them. They really need to make a standard for everyone to use (16:9). If i wanted only a 36" tv i would have bought one (i measured the picture). I guess im getting used to it though and overall a awesome tv.

Had an interesting experience today trying to install an Integra DHC 80.2. I have a DirecTV DVR feeding the Integra by HDMI, and then HDMI from the Integra to the Vizio. For those channels with Dolby Digital, sound comes through the Vizio speakers. For other channels, no sound through the TV.

I'm going to post this query in the DHC 80.2 thread as well, but does the collective here have any ideas why I get sound with DD channels but no sound with the other channels?

Tom

I have this issue. I've come home 4 times to find the TV on, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the dog. I plan to report back after it gets resolved.

Do you want sound on the TV or do you want no sound on the TV?
I want sound on the TV for just regular viewing, such as when the kids are watching regular evening type programming. I also want sound through the surround processor (DHC 80.2) for watching a movie. IOW, I want to be able to choose.

I bought the Vizio xvt553sv and so far, love it! right now I am using cnet settings for the tv. my question is if I tweak the birghtness and contrast, will i throw off the red, green, blue gain and the 3 others in the advanced picture options. I have the blu ray dve disk and the brightness is off a click or two and also the contrast test patten turns almost pink at a setting of 53 , even in a pitch black room. I just don't want to mess up the white balance settings ! thanks in advance!!

I did notice that CNet said it "couldn't handle 1080p/24 content properly". You can read it under "The Bad" on their review page.

reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/vizio-xvt423sv/4505-6482_7-34122858.html

I, too, was concerned when reading that since I shoot video in 1080p/24 and would like to watch it on my television, but if there are "problems", I'd like to know more details as to what they are specifically. Anybody have insight into that? What about Blu Ray videos and PS3? Do they natively display in cinematic 24 frames per second?

I'm seriously considering this television after first deciding on the LG 47LE8500, but realizing that the glossy screen wouldn't work so well with all of the light you're going to need if you're using Xbox Kinect. Any outside thoughts on one over the other in a similar situation?

Thanks heaps!

I read the following on CNet's review of this television and wondered if anybody had any more current info on when Vizio will make this available?

Quote:

Unlike most other Internet-enabled TVs, the XVT3 series currently does not offer streaming of your music, photos, and video via a home network (DLNA) or USB stick. Vizio says it will add such functionality in time for the 2010 holiday season.

I've got a NAS that I can stream content through my Xbox, but if available, it would be nice to stream directly to the television. Just curious if anybody's heard any new related info?

Thanks heaps!

Hi and thanks to all for contributing to a very useful, informative forum!!

I am strongly considering buying an LED LCD in the next few months and the Vizio XVT3 series is at the top of the list along with LG8500/9500 and Sony 801series. Really not willing to pay for the Samsung premium considering how quickly the technology changes.

Couple of reservations with this unit and things that have come up in other posts that have not been answered.

1) Have the USB ports been activated with the update that was sent out by Vizio recently? Are they useable now?

2) Any problems streaming content from your CPU to the TV wirelessly? It seems like Netflix and other Widgets work well, but how do you get videos and pics from, your CPU or memory cards to display on the TV?

3)Any issues with the 5ms response time vs 1 or 3ms offered by others? I watch A Lot of sports.

4)Is the off angle viewing acceptable?

5) Will be in a very bright room, when I viewed this set in Costco, I did not get any glare at all, was I correct?

Anything else I should consider before making my desicion? You really can't beat the price which kind of makes me hesitate a little bit...

Thanks

No, we're still waiting

This capability does not exist yet either. The only internet content is via the widgets

I think sports look great on this set. I've read about gaming lag, but viewing sports is excellent

I think it's quite good. Much better than my previous JVC HD.

Doesn't seem to be a problem. I've watched our set in somewhat bright circumstances (although I usually view in low light) and it seems fine.

To me, I'm very pleased overall, but would really like to see the firmware update for USB and DLNA to actually become a reality.

I'm not sure which, as only one poster has reported seeing the update and the reported seeing the VIZIO logo flashing "WHITE and ORANGE". Let us know what you see going on when you get the update. Vizio indicated earlier that the flashing "ORANGE" would be "The connected TV's update their firmware during this process." and the "ORANGE and WHITE" is "When the Vizio logo flashes between orange and white, it's simply scanning file systems and preparing to be powered on. ( basically the system polls itself to insure it has not crashed / gotten to a state where the user can do nothing. Ideally if the aforementioned were to occur, the system would power itself off, vizio logo would flash orange to white for up to 5 minutes, then power itself back on."

To check what firmware you have - Pull up the Menu, select "Help", then select "System Info".

The firmware version should be on the third line down, original "Version:C1.2.14_RC1" or the new "Version:C1.2.22_RC1".

There is a lot of stuff in the System Info. It is where one can check the signal quality of your antenna, network connection data, bluetooth stuff, and etc...

Keep scrolling down , as there is a big gap, as in no data, between bluetooth and remote control units, at least on my units, with more data. Someone, I'm sure, understands what all this data means, but it is not me.

Tom

I just turned on my tv and got the message my firmware was in the process of updating. The tv turned itself off and the Vizio logo flashed between orange and white for a minute and then the tv turned itself back on with the new firmware installed.

Hi again I just thought id give an update. I returned the tv and got a brand new one today. Everything setup fine except my cable input would have about a 1/2 inch black strip on the screen on both sides. When I adjusted the settings under horizontal size I could make it perfect but the settings would be lost and go back once i changed the channel. I went to dinner and now got back home and I had a firmware update. The tv updated and to my surprise the update fixed it!! I now have picture edge to edge!! Anyone else on the fence about this tv GET IT! I had done months worth of research and was leaning toward the samsung 6000 series when i saw this in the store. I love the bluetooth headphones for night when everyone else is in bed. My 360 looks awesome on the tv and I could not be happier. Even with standard def tv led is the way to go!!
So, I called Vizio Customer Support yesterday evening to specifically ask about when the firmware update to enable the USB ports is due to come out. I was told that the update is currently being distributed to do this! Is this true? Does anyone confirm this? Thanks for the reply in advance.

Would anyone have concern about buying the XVT473SV at WalMart. It appears they are the only one local to me that has it instock.

I wish that Costco would carry this tv in our local stores.

Nope I bought my XVT553SV at Wal-Mart and at the time it was cheaper then Sam's Club. They have a 90 day return policy if you don't like the set.

I am very intrigued by all the reviews and comments on this TV. I recently bought the LG 55LD520 and am pretty disappointed. I feel like I have a lot more lightbleed than my 40" Bravia I'm replacing and the viewing angle is bothering me (seating at approximately 25 degrees off center axis). Since this is an IPS panel, would viewing at my angles still be pretty good? The CNET review had a con as poor off angle viewing and I thought IPS panels were good at that so I'm confused/concerned.

I literally had to reconfigure my living room with the 55LD520 to get to 25 degrees which is still noticeable, but better (again, the Bravia had no problems at this angle).

Bloom will increases the further off angle you get but I can see the TV clearly from our kitchen at almost a 70-80 degree angle. Normal viewing maybe 30-40 degrees from center is just fine.

While I can't speak for the 55 I have the 42 but to my understanding size is the only difference. The viewing angle on this tv is very good! Much better than others I've seen. The screen is more like a matte than a gloss and I have had no problems with glare even with sunlight directly shining on the set. For kinect you should have no problems seeing full clarity wherever you stand. I can watch this tv from even a 140 angle and still see it without loss of color. I would even go as far to say that the viewing angle is close to my tube tv. If u are disappointed with the lg I would def reccomend giving this tv a try. If you did have a problem with glare you could just turn up the brightness on this tv. It gets sooooo bright that it would wash any sunlight out even though you probably won't have a problem.
