[quote=ROMAN O;19553881]If it is still there it might be a board, I would replace it if it comes back. Since it would take much more time to get it fixed[/QUOTE

Where is the green line at, is it in the middle of the screen or on one of the edges?

I'm just asking because I once had a Samsung LCD that the screen was initially not properly centered with HD content. To fix this I had to manually move screen using the functions in the control menu to make it fit properly.

If the 553 has YouTube built in, I sure can't find it. Went through all the Widgets and it's not there.

Sounds like something has slipped just enough over the light source or under the logo to cover up the upper left portion of the "V". Since I have not taken the 553 apart yet, do not know would it could be. The partial internal coverage of the logo could be due to either shipping, production or installation.

Took me a few moments to figure out what POS means. So from your description it appears to be an appearance issue and to some could indicate the POS analogy. An exchange at Sam's would be appropriate for your set.

green is at the right extreme of the screen. I changed the input from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 with the same cord and it persisted. I then changed to a different HDMI cord and it persisted. While watching football if I put it on WIDE mode the line goes away. Not sure if it is a function of the TV. The Vizio guy I chatted with online says it is a function of the cable box, but on my old Sony this never occurred. I guess this means I have to watch TV in WIDE mode? Wonder if anyone else has this problem

This is very similar to the issue I had with my Sammy, and now that you mention it I do believe it had something to do with the cable box...I have comcast. I'm certainly no expert, and I dealt with this issue 1-2 years ago, but I think the green line you are seeing may have something to do with overscan. Basically, the green line is actually part of the HD broadcast as the Vizio guy said. I'm sure about your TV but the Sammy had a function to customize the screen placement due to overscan. Also, if I remember correctly, this only happened on a few channels for me but I was able to correct it. Wish I could be of more help and hopefully others will chime in.

I posted this on the lcd forum but was referred to this thread
As of now I have a Sony 50 RPTV.
I want to get the vizio xvt553sv

I have Comcast HD Cable box.
MY problem is I cant get PIP with the Sony, even though the TV is equipped and I used to get it before HD.
Is there a way to get the PIP to work with comcast??
I'v heard it was the comcast box that prevents the PIP,but I'm not sure
Did any of this make any sense?

I wonder why my set hasn't updated the FW yet, I've had it 1 1/2 weeks. It's wired to the network and it's working. But it still has the original FW in it.

I just bought a 55" yesterday. I'm watching a movie with a lot of darkness. I've noticed that on some scenes with a predominantly black scene, the blacks start out dark but about a half-second later, the blacks get blacker. I've seen this on both blu ray and dish network. Is this normal?

Thanks!

Palehorse and schneidan, to put my feedback into your questions - I watch a lot of football on this set (42") and I haven't seen any particular motion blur. I also do a fair amount of gaming (recently Batman:AA, COD:BO and I'm just about to start on GT5 ) no blur there, either.

Everyone who is asking about bloom: yes, it can be an issue IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS. For me, I've only "noticed" it when I am playing PS3 and I open up the menu, which is white text on a black screen. HOWEVER: I can only really notice the bloom when I'm viewing off axis, which isn't a normal viewing scenario by any means :P I've been incredibly impressed by this set and would advise anyone concerned about bloom to take a look at it in your particular environment. There are many factors which can aggravate or mitigate bloom, as you know. I may be lucky as I have no glare, but even in a dark room (light blocking curtains, no lights on, and dark source material) bloom seems to be a nonissue for me.

Hope this helps some of you make your decision

First of all, let me thank everyone in this thread for providing useful information leading up to my purchase of the xvt473sv a week and a half ago. I received the TV last Wednesday and have been enjoying it since.

I do have one question/comment. Tonight I watched V for Vendetta on dvd played on my xbox 360. There was a fair amount of blooming, but I reasoned that this was pretty much the worst title for this, as it constantly has brightly lit objects/actors on pitch black backgrounds.

Has anyone else watched this specific title and had similar thoughts? I'm using the ISF picture settings and had the firmware updated the second day after I received the set.

Thanks, and I greatly appreciate any and all comments!

I just returned the LG (before it even arrived, less shipping costs if I return it earlier says the supplier I purchased it from), and I'm going to purchase the 47'' on Amazon within a week or two once the return is finalized. I'm a bit concerned about blooming, especially since many of the films I watch (total film buff) take place in dimly lit areas, but it sounds like some sets are vastly better than others, and as I can't afford more shipping costs for a return, I'm praying it works out for me.

I'll tune in when it arrives with input lag/blooming issues, since that seems to be a hot question on the board.

They had 2 in an ends cap, the display one ans 8 more on the floor in the aisle. I have a Visa too, so I scored $2K on a Walmart Gift card a few days ago and used that (and got reward points too).. Then proceeded to wrestle it in the Town & Coiuntry minivan (fit perfectly behind the 1st row of seats.. Good to see a police car running in the lot as it was dark and people are walking out one by one with electronics.. Still need to go hook up (wife had another agends for me this afternoon..ugh)... Plus need a stand now as it's replacing a projection unit.

I moved out and my wife has all 3 of the plasmas so I had to find a new TV. First I bought a 32" thinking I could watch it then get a big one later. That sucked. Took it back and got the 473 at Walmart on T Day. Looking around my little apartment I was amazed at the beautiful PQ on the 47 but really missed the 65" left w wife. So I loaded up the 473 and took it back. No questions asked at Walmart. Did that Saturday. Then, worried silly that the 553 wouldn't fit into my Honda CRV, I went to Sams and bought the 553. It was $100 less than Walmart. Yay, it did fit into my CRV but only like a glove and only after a concerned passerby, who said he was buying the same TV, came over to help me stuff it in.

I struggled with getting it out of the box and onto the stand but was able to do it by myself. Looks great and the audio ain't half bad. Checked out the Home Theater Magazine for their settings and I must say I am really glad I took the 473 back and added the $200 to it to get the 553. The PQ is very awesome and the size is just what I need to take the blues away.

EDIT: Update - FYI my new apartment hasn't got internet (comcast) yet so I've been using MyWi tethered on iPhone, which works incredibly well BTW, but there is an open community wifi at the clubhouse about 75' - 100' from my house. None of my devices are able to connect to this community wifi, not any of my 3 laptops, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, Logitech Revue, iTV, or even the Boxee Box. BUT - the Vizio 553 connects with no problem. Weird but I wonder if it has some massive screen size antenna built into it or something.

OK so I was thinking about what I wrote above and realized I made a really dumb mistake:

As I mentioned, last night was the first time I was at all disappointed in the picture quality, specifically the blooming. I'd be happily watching my FiOS tv with beautiful results, after I setup a combination of the ISF and cnet picture settings.

Last night was also the first time I watched a DVD on the tv using my Xbox. First time, in fact that I'd used my xbox connected to the tv. Connected with HDMI 2. First time I'd used anything connected to HDMI 2.

So there was my blunder. I forgot that setting don't carry over between inputs, so I was watching the standard, out of the box picture settings with the backlight cranked up to 85 in a darkened room. Of course the blooming was more noticeable!

So there's my "D'oh!" moment. And here's the moral: Remember, boys and girls, to setup the picture settings for EACH INPUT you plan on using. Then you'll be much happier with your XVT3SV.

I setup my 553 yesterday and I was totally amazed at the picture quality. Initially, I had problems connecting to my router as it did not accept my security code and it kept coming up with "Connection Failed". After resetting, updating the router and tweaking some settings, it finally connected and the speed test indicated just over 10Mbs. The only problem I am having now is that whenever I select an APP, it directs me to the network settings to connect. Can't figure this out. Also, this TV out of the box is way too bright and blooming was evident off center. After calibrating with the CNET values the blooming for the most part disappeared. I only see slight blooming around the PS3 play sign when the screen is totally black. I actually changed the backlight setting from CNET's 13 to data 20.

This morning when I turned the TV on, it did it's first firmware update, but I still can not get the APPs to work. Any ideas?

In trying to help duse500, posting this from the 3's Op Man. Anybody disagree with the Op's Man?

Will be hooking up a Maggie 515 HDD/DVD Recorder to a 553 in a few days, and will let y'all know how it works with PIP & POP.

I don't see why not. It works fine with my FIOS STB, connected with either HDMI or component.

To check what firmware you have - Pull up the Menu, select "Help", then select "System Info".

The firmware version should be on the third line down, original "Version:C1.2.14_RC1" or the NEW "Version:C1.2.22_RC1".

From the Op's Manual, page 29:

Connecting a Computer - RGB (VGA)

1. Set computer to a resolution supported by your HDTV (see Preset PC Resolutions on page 61). If your computer supports it, we recommend 1920x1080.
2. Turn off the power to your HDTV and computer.
3. Connect the RGB (VGA) cable from your computer to the RGB PC jack on of your HDTV.
4. Connect the 1/8-inch audio cable from your computer to the RGB PC Audio jack on your HDTV. This step is optional and only needed if you want to transmit audio from the computer through the TV.
5. Turn on the power to your HDTV and computer.
6. Select RGB (VGA) using the INPUT button on the remote control or side of the TV.
Note: Refer to your PC computer user manual for more information about the video output requirements.

just ordered a set from amazon.. they are price matching Dell's deal, and no tax. Since I don't have a discover card, and prefer amazon's return policy, my only hangup with the set, the vizio name, is not enough reason not to order this set and waste money on something inferior like an edge-lit model. Great value for the price, looking forward to getting this set!
tghik: You only pay the HST at the border as the TV is assembled in Mexico.

Figured out my "APPS" problem - I read the instruction manual -Doh!

I agree it is a great value especially when you can save on tax and get a good return policy, which size did you get? I would not worry about the Vizio name since they have come a long way. I have seen them on demo and at clients homes and they really love them.

May I respectfully add to Tom's instructions that instead of buying 2 separate cords, one for video and one for audio, Monoprice offers a VGA (video only) cord "attached" to a 1/8 inch (audio only) cord. I ordered one at the length I needed at a VERY reasonable price so I can sit in my favorite chair and use my laptop to access YouTube and whatever else, using my TV as the monitor.
