And for a black friday discount. are these the exact same units 100% or possibly special production run for sams black friday...

I may just buy the 473 for $350 less. I like the silver too. Does your have silver square?
The bells and whistles on mine match what's on Vizio's site. My 55 does not have a silver square, it's all black. Which is just the way I like it. Also remember that Sams club was selling this TV before Black Friday. I'd say just go for it, you won't regret it.

Search this thread for ARC. It appears that there are some issues getting the HDMI return channel to work with some receivers. (Unless that issue was resolved.)

I ordered the 55" XVT3SV from amazon lastnight, and then someone from DataVision called and said they had to cancel my order because the manufacturer was having a problem with these tv's, and they wouldn't be available again until next year.

He then tried to convince me to buy the LG 55LE5400 instead and said he'd give it to me for the cost of the vizio minus $100.

What do you guys think? Is that a decent deal?

I would jump on it if he offered the LG Electronics 55LE8500 instead.
perhaps datavision guy is just using this as an excuse because Vizios are flying off the shelves... and datavision wont have more til then

I was just notified that the 553 I purchased is here in Las Vegas at a Pilot delivery place. When I ordered it from Dell, the delivery date was December 2 (2 days from now).

I called Pilot delivery service to see when I would receive my TV, and they said not until NEXT Tuesday, December 7. SO, I have to wait a week to get my set even though I know it is here in Vegas.

I think this SUCKS. Nothing I can do about it, just thought I'd share with my fellow forum members.

Bought this set on Black Friday and have been happy with it thus far. However, I have run into a few quirks that I wanted to ask about to ensure that I don't have a defective tv.

1st: When connecting a laptop and XBOX360 via the RGB input, the screen will flicker on and off when the "Game Mode" preset is turned on. This happens regardless of the resolution settings selected. Can someone else please test this on their set as well?

2nd: I can not get my Wii console to display in widescreen. The t.v. is set to Normal and the Wii is connected via component cables and the Wii settings are set to 480P and widescreen(16X9) but the screen still shows black bars on the left and right side of the image. I do notice that when switching the Wii settings back to 4X3 and 16X9 that the font becomes smaller and clearer when in 16X9 mode but the black bars on the left and right are still present. I also use my XBOX with XBMC installed and I can switch between 4X3 and 16X9 through the system and the screen adjusts accordingly. I'm just trying to confirm that it is my Wii console that is causing the issues or if all Wii consoles are having issues with Vizio tvs not being able to recognize the widescreen signal.

is everyones 553 all black or have silver square like the 473?

I like the silver and vizios website and many others show silver square on 553 but SAMS is all black.

I've also had 2 times when the TV would not turn on Via the remote. The switch on the back of the TV seemed to work just fine though. I seem to be losing the BlueTooth pairing as I usually have to re-pair the device after it turns itself back on. I think my remote might need to be replaced, which may actually be why the TV has turned on all by itself. I'll call support for that though.

Please call support about the TV turning on by itself. My sister bought this TV in early October, and it has turned on by itself about 10 times or so already. She has wireless internet with a spotty connection. I was speculating that perhaps it was turning on when it attempted to update the firmware, but failed. I repositioned her router, changed the wireless channel and now it seems to have a better connection and her firmware did upgrade last week. So far her TV has not turned on by itself since. The support people claim that this problem is fixed with the new firmware, so it is troubling to hear that you had it turn on by itself with the new firmware.

They also told her that if her TV turned on by itself again, they would swap it out for her to a brand new TV.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Wonder if anyone else has this problem

You should try adjusting the "Size & Position" settings (HDTV Settings -> TV Settings -> Picture -> More -> Size & Position. On this screen you can adjust the screen Horiz and Vert position and also the size Horiz and Vert.

My 553 settings are Horiz. Pos=29, Vert. Pos.=14, Horiz. Size=0, and Vert. Size=0. It makes it easier if you can get a HD overscan test image to help you set it, but hopefully you can remove the green line from your cable box.

Regardless of what a website shows, NONE of the New models have the silver bar, period. You speak of the older models. Sams and all other retailers have the same models with the same color schemes.

Tom

I had an update last night from C1.2.12._RC2 to C1.2.22_RC1 on the XVT553

Does anyone know what was changed?

spoonman- i know last years model have a silver bar across the whole bottom but what about say like the xvt472sv? silver square- are you saying that the new xvt473sv is all black too?

i know it sounds silly but i like the silver square, and my living room is tiny so 47 inch is plenty. i was considering buying the 553 but for $300 more with black friday special i would rather buy vht510 vizio soundbar with wireless sub etc....

SO ANYBODY WITH A BRAND NEW XVT473SV PLEASE STAND UP- ALL BLACK OR IS THERE THE SILVER SQUARE?

I have the same setup with the WII and component cables with the Wii set to 480P and 16x9. You need to go to the input setup screen on the tv for the input the Wii is installed to. Just adjust the screen to stretch there. It displays correctly when you do this. There are many settings in the wide menu, but I think stretch is the one you want. It will only affect that input and none of the others.

After spending the day setting up my new 55, all I have to say is that this set rocks! Netflix, Rhapsody, Pandora and an amazing picture to boot. I highly recommend this set for anyone still on the fence.

Exactly, it has a clear plastic cover and the light reflecting makes it look silver.

My 473 is all black.

Wow, this thread has really exploded--guess a lot of Vizios are going home this holiday season!

I connected my 553 to an antenna to get OTA broadcasts. They come in beautiful. However on some of the channels I get the white flickering line at the top. I believe this is the closed captioning signal. The problem is, I can't go in and select picture size. Is this disabled for OTA. And if so, does anyone have any suggestions of getting rid of it. Changing the picture mode, Wide, Zoom, etc. over scans and I loose too much of the picture.

I have this problem as well, but my tv isn't connected to the internet & it still turns itself on.

Also, the screen looks grayish when changing channels, but is black when the programming fades in & out. Is this normal, or do I have a defective set?

Being new to LCD sets I have a question. I plan to use pandora and rhapsody apps a lot on this set. Is there any problem with burn in from the album art being displayed for extended periods of time? Is there some way to shut off the display, but still listen to these apps (like a screen saver)?

Got my 473 from Target yesterday, replacing a 14 year old 27inch curved tube.

I was able to sample various sources, comcast hd, ps3 netflix, ps3 blu ray and such.

Blooming didn't seem to be an issue, I haven't messed with any settings except for turning on the smart dimming. Picture is pretty amazing.

The only issue I have right now is that the hd dvr I got from comcast wasn't feeding anything out of the hdmi port, so I had to use component cables. Anything coming from the cable box has a purplish hue horizontal band that travels upward across the screen and wrapping from the bottom. The band is about 1/4th of the screen's height, in thickness.

The playstation 3 input via hdmi does not have this, so I'm attributing it to the component cables. Comcast is shipping me a new hd/dvr box, the local center was out of them. (I walked out with the last one last night). Hopefully that solves the problem.

The horizontal line sounds like it could be a ground loop issue. Check the cable connection where your cable enters the house to ensure it is properly grounded. Hopefully that's all it is.
And congrats on purchasing a great TV, I know it's a huge improvement over the 27" tube

Is that something I can check myself? I live in an apartment complex. I never noticed it with the old tv, and I had never had my stereo system hooked up until now either.

I also noticed, after looking up ground loop a bit, that whenever we paused the on-demand programming, there was a pretty audible speaker hum as well.

If this is a ground loop issue, will the hdmi connection fix the issue once I get a working hdmi out on a new cable box? If not is a ground loop isolator my only option to throw on my coax? If the hdmi will fix it I'd rather not spend the 25 bucks on an isolator.

Can anyone please explain why my picture is wider than I am able to adjust - settings are at their narrowest on "horizontal adjustment". I literally have nothing else to complain about - a fabulous purchase!!
Like several others, I have had conversations with Vizio people about the dead USB ports and the inability to access my LAN wirelessly. I feel a bit betrayed by the use of words like "Internet connectivity" and direct advertising of the USB ports.
I'd love to have some tutoring on the horizontal picture issue!
