IMAX Under the Sea Blu-ray 3D joins the fray

I see LG is now offering this one as their promo 3D content teaser. Any indication this one can be purchased separately? As I understand it with the LG promo you get a $100 coupon good for purchase toward the disc so maybe that means mere mortals can put up $100 cash for one without getting an LG bundle?

It is available as a Directv PPV. I would love to hear comments on video quality between the Directv broadcast and the actual Bluray.

Even at $5 a pop on PPV, that's a lot of views instead of paying $100 for a bluray.

I liked the PPV, but I would not pay $100 for the bluray.

Great...another exclusive bundle.

Okay, I can understand the strategy behind bundles--offering some content perks to sweeten the hardware deal. But I simply can't comprehend the exclusivity part of it. Do the studios and CEMs really believe that people are going to make a purchasing decision worth thousands of dollars based on which disc(s) come with that particular hardware?

It looks like the $100 rebate is for the whole package. link

The disc is available via a separate mail-in redemption offer.

You can buy the blu-ray player only and order the disc. The player is heavily discounted already so overall it is not a bad business proposition.

This is one of the top 3 3d movies of all times. definitely worth it.

yeah but if you have a dlp tv you needed the Panasonic 3d bluray player that has the checkerboard option (for dlp tvs).

this is ridiculous that you have to buy an LG product to get an Imax bluray release.

I just purchased a "Imax Under the Sea" at BB. I had to look hard to see the 3D letters. It was only $30 so I'm wondering if it is just a digital 3D enhancement.

yeah I see it
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Under+th...=01&id=2091083

and it seems to be available in store also.

Can anyone confirm that this is active 3d (i'm assuming side by side) bluray that you can get with an LG 3d tv?

why dont you just try it in your 3d bluray player with 3d tv with 3d glasses and tell us if it is in fact active shutter 3d?

Does it say 3D on the disk, or the cover? This IMAX film was shot in 3D. I don't think the original BD cover says 3D anywhere on it. Interesting.....

I looked it up on Amazon. It has the same release date as the one at BB. The front and back cover scans do not indicate 3D at all. Amazon's product description does not indicate 3D either.

If it is not a true new 3D MVC formatted Blu-ray disk for use in the new 3D BR players then I fear that it may be Anaglyph formatted.
I am not aware of any BR disks that have been formatted in 1/2 R 1080i SbS 3D format.

3D BD only uses the frame packing 3D format. It is either 1080x24P for movies or 720x60P for games for the PS3.

I don't have the emitter yet, so I can't watch. That's why I pm'd you about where you found the emitter. Actually, I don't have the Panny 350 yet either. Should arrive tomorrow.

It says 3D in small letters on the packaging. Does not make me feel very confident, but I figured it would be a nice blue ray film if nothing else.

In my local BB, it's labeled 3D on the price sticker, but there's nothing on the packaging that says 3D--so you might actually have a BR 3D!

Come on.. Somebody with 3D capability has to have a review on this????

the disk on BB states it came out 3-30-2010, if so , I see no way that it is the new 3D. I'd bank the one offered up by LG is though.

That is not a review of this.

That review was for the release that came out in March. This is a July true 3D release.

Has someone received theirs from LG? Wouldn't make sense that it is sold in stores if its a promo for LG BD players.
I almost bit... $250 is the best price I could find on one of the qualifying LG 3D BP's.... It would be nice to get the title and a more
updated player for myself.

Bestbuy version

LG promo active shutter version

I went to my local store today and found the disc that is here. I found 2 different versions actually in the same place on the shelf for 29.99. One version was the standard blu-ray edition and the other was standard blu-ray edition with a DVD version inside that had a sleeve on the outside. There is no 3-D blu-ray edition for sale people. It is strictly LG promo as of now. I hope someone out there who invest in LG can bring some reviews on the actual 3-D disc.

They tend to hire people who don't know Jack**** about media or any other thing in a whole store. They really tick me off doing so also. It may be 3D but it's not the stereoscopic active shutter version. You got the old school anaglyph red and blue version. If I am wrong please please due tell all when you open it up. When i bought Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs it said on the plastic wrap what is required to view the disc in true stereoscopic 3D. Just because the package says 3D does not mean it is going to be new era 3D. Read the back of the cover and make sure it says needs active shutter glasses to be sure. 3D blu-ray and blu-ray 3-D are 2 way different formats. Good Luck returning it opened.

If the product does not have the official 3D blu ray logo it is propably AnaGlyph format see the following link;

I also think it's safe to say all of the studios (even the smaller ones that distribute the IMAX docs) will follow this format.
Here is the German version of the Grand Canyon 3D BD with the official logo:

However, the IMAX Under The Sea 3D shown above doesn't appear to show the official 3D logo on the cover. I think I see it on the spine, though.

It is on the spine like you said. Hers a bigger picture for viewing.

I was at my local Best Buy this morning and the price sticker for this BluRay also said 3D on it (even though the actual packaging made no mention of it at all). I wanted to see if I could pop it into one of the 3D TVs on display to get a definitive answer on whether it was 3D or not but could not find anyone to help me out.

i bought it yesterday at BB. put it my panny 350 guess what not 3d. so i took it back to BB and got my money back. yesterday the salesman signed a Peace of paper stating that if it wasan`t 3d even if i opened it up they would give my money back. they did no problem.

Thanks for that info; I'm sure you've saved a lot of folks around here (including me) a lot of grief.

While I love my 3D TV, this lack of content is really frustrating. New releases are non-existent and having companies hoard the few available titles is only hurting adoption of the format.
forgot to tell you it doesn't say anything on the back about being 3d. also usually they furnish those crappy 3d glasses if it was anaglyph red and blue version. looks like sombody at bestbuy who puts this on there web sight goofed and put 3d on the sight.
