Samsung quietly expands its 3D Blu-ray player lineup with a few updated models

Don't be surprised to see a couple of new Samsung Blu-ray players on the shelf at local or online retailers while shopping, as it's rolling out new 3D capable models in the BD-C5900, BD-C6800 and BD-C7900. The $399 (MSRP) BD-C7900 updates the older BD-C6900 with two HDMI outs, useful for those with an older receiver that isn't HDMI 1.4 compatible, while the $279 BD-C6800 seems to have all the features of the BD-C6900 except for that porthole on top, and comes in at a lower price. Last up is the BD-C5900 with an MSRP of $229 which puts it within reach of two bills at retail, but means losing the 1GB of internal storage featured by the other two players. The product pages aren't all fully updated on Samsung's site yet, but the BD-C5900 has already arrived at Amazon and Best Buy and the others shouldn't be far behind. Of course, if 3D's not your thing, we'd still keep an eye out for their arrival -- a price break on the older 2D-only models that were released earlier this year shouldn't be too far behind.

Good info....this puts the C5900 in line price-wise with the Sony S570/BX57....although I believe the Sony has 1GB internal memory.

I wonder if the 3d Player will support checkerboard output. It might help redeem Samsung in the eyes of its prior DLP buyers. If it doesn't support checkerboard, I think Samsung will just be vilified more for having abandoned earlier buyers.

Here's the Samsung link on the new 3D player.

I did a quick read and didn't see anything about checkerboard output. It would be pretty strange if the Panasonic includes checkboard and the Samsung does not.

I also did a quick read, http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/tv-video/blu-ray/blu-ray-players/BD-C7900/XAA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl= and the specifications tab only lists ONE HDMI output on the BD-C7900, contrary to the Engadget.com article.

There are two hdmi, hdmi 1 (video/audio) and hdmi 2 (audio). You can download the bd-c7900's manual from the samsung web site (pdf).

I agree with Don. Take a look at the picture in the manual. There is one HDMI video output and one HDMI audio output.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, when exactly is the samsung c7900 3d blu ray player available to buy in both America and the UK ??, I've searched amazon.com and amazon.co.uk and it's only available on pre order on amazon.com, there's no sign of it on amazon.co.uk

Thanks,

UPDATE: Samsung C7900 is now available to buy from Amazon.com
Still no sign of it at Amazon.co.uk
If there is a hack to get it region free I would just buy it straight from there, but I think I'll wait till it's out over here in the UK...

"while the $279 BD-C6800 seems to have all the features of the BD-C6900 except for that porthole on top,"

I am trying to find out the diff between the 6800 and the 6900,

I can't see spending $100.00 more for the 6900 if the two have the same exact specs as per Box and Amazon descriptions.

What is the "Porthole"

Thanks in advance.

That's that see-thru window that lights up to show you the bluray disc spinning. I'll pay $100 less to not have that "feature".

Someone else on Amazon just wrote that the 6900 and 7900 use a different High Powered video processor - is that possible?

On another note: Has anyone tried hooking one of these up to a Samsung 6000 LCD tv and viewing 3D or is it impossible. I had read that what you meed is a TV with 120hz and if you have i120hz that 3D should work.

The new HDMI 1.4a 3D formats requir TVs which can refresh at 120hZ. But that in no way means that any 120HZ TV supports 3D.
