converting to YPbPr

Thread Starter
I've got an ancient HDTV with only YPbPr available, and I want to get video from my PC to it. problem is, neither of the graphics cards on my PC have a dongle for such a purpose.

I have an integrated Radeon HD 3300 which I think might be my best bet: if I buy one of those simple VGA->RGB cables will catalyst allow me to switch it to YPbPr? i've seen some discussion in various places as to this, but its always referring to old Radeon 9800s or the like.

I also have an asus 9800GT with VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs (no funky dongle output). Is there any way to cheaply convert any of these to YPbPr on an nVidia card through the nvidia drivers and a simple VGA or DVI -> RGB cable?

I'm not interested in spending $50-150 on a converter box, I'm looking for a driver/software based solution that can allow me to use one of those $5 VGA-> RGB or DVI->RGB cables on monoprice. thanks for your help!

I am in the same boat and would love to have an up to datish card to use. Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add though

Pretty sure the dvi dongle was only made for ATi cards. Nvidia uses the 9 pin dongle.

RGB component and YPrPb component are not the same. You need a grapics card that supports "HDTV Out" which is the card specifcation alias for YPrPb component.

ATI, too.

As someone with a similarly ancient HDTV, I'd suggest the OP acquire an ATI-4350-based card with HDTV-out. I've gotten spectacular results from such cards.

I have same issue. There is no software that will do what you're looking for, that I am aware of because the signal is is digital out the box. Look how the old VGA worked.

Basically, you either need to get a video card that can out component video, or a converter box. Both will be cheaper than replacing your TV to something that can accept digital video input.

Just get a card with a component dongle, that's the cheapest/easiest solution. I bought this about 2 months ago and it came with the dongle http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162019

suggestions are decent, but not exactly what i'm looking for. maybe I should be clearer:

Is there anyone who can confirm (or deny) that the ATI VGA adapter here will work with the integrated ATI Radeon 3300 card on my motherboard?

I know cards with HDTV out are available cheap if you keep your eyes open, but I don't want to replace my mid-range graphics card with a low-end alternative just for HDTV.

You need a full graphics card for Component Out, the adapters won't work.

This HDMI to Component cable has worked great for me. I've mostly run it at 1080i, though, because I use it for PC DVR system for TV recordings.

The adapter in your link is a proprietary device for a very old line of ATI cards.
