Panasonic VT20/25 and 2D gaming in motion?

Hi VT gamers,

I just ordered a 65VT25 (still waiting for it). I've read the lag is pretty low on these sets (good thing) but I was wondering:

How do the VT20/25 handle motion for 2D gaming?
How's the frame rate in racing games?
In a game like Ratchet and Clank or a shooter, when you do a 360 for example, is it buttery smooth?
And during a pan in a sport game how smooth is the movement?
Is the blur reduction feature usable for gaming? If so does it seem to affect frame rate, introduce lag or artifacts?

The reason I'm asking is because I read a few posts complaining about VT poor motion handling during pans for blu-rays and sport broadcasts...

I wish I knew, I would love to have the set you ordered!
IIRC the complaints hovered around having a 24hz source and using the frame interpolation (like Samsung's AutoMotion Plus). I have the Sammy, and I recommend you just turn that interpolation mode stuff OFF and leave it off. Let the set play back the source as intended and all should be well. Send the set to me and I'll do the testing for you

Ok, blur reduction feature aside, how smooth are the games on this TV?

Today I went to a Future Shop store nearby where they had the 50VT20 on display. Panning (and all other camera movements) on Planet earth were pretty choppy when compared to all other TVs just beside it (Sharp, Sony, LG and Samsung led and plasma TVs). I don't know if the input was 1080i or 1080p.

I really wonder what a game in motion looks like on this set. I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice... Maybe the VT25 is a bit different but I don't think so.

I have heard nothing but great comments about the VT series other than when using the anti-blur. I haven't gotten a chance to audtion one in my home but it would certainly be at the top of my list for my next set.

I believe the VT20 and VT25 are the same set other than one is Best Buy specific. Someone check me on this?

The VT25 is capable of accurately reproducing 24fps, while the VT20 uses pulldown.

Shouldn't make any difference for games that run at 30fps or 60fps (or TV broadcasts), but you will see the notorious "judder" when watching film sources (if you really, really look for it).

Ah, gotcha. I couldn't remember what the BestBuy special number was. I want that 65" VT25 in a bad way

When playing first person shooters, the VT20 exhibited quite a bit of smearing (at least that's what I call it) when standing next to a wall or solid object and turning around fast. It was very noticeable when it happened. My other plasmas do the same thing but to a lesser degree. My LCDs and DLP don't do it nearly as bad. So there is something going on there, but I have no idea what it is. The good news is that I only noticed this 'smearing' when playing FPS, and it did not happen very often, so I don't think you should worry about it too much.

By the way, just so you don't worry in case you see my older posts... Yes I'm the same guy who bought the first VT20 here at the forum and decided not to keep it, and eventually sold it to my roomate, but it had nothing to do with gaming performance or the smearing effect. It was an issue with my eyes sensitivity to flicker. I think you are going to be very happy with the gaming performance of that TV. Very happy.

Thanks for the input. I owned a 72 in DLP which was nice for games but lacked punch in some games like Ghost Recon (local multiplayer) which had a lot more punch on my previous Sony 60 LCD RPTV. I was also sensible to rainbow effects on the DLP especially with games like Quake in dark areas. Anyways, I am more of a racer (and rockband) type and do not play that much anymore but still, I'm interrested to have a good PQ overall for gaming.
