The MKV and BDMV play fine on my PC, so I'm not sure why the Popbox doesn't like them. If I try to play any of them through YAMJ, it tried to start the video and then kicks me back to the movie page. If I try to play with the native player, it says "error: could not load file".

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What movie?

Hmmm...the Popbox shouldn't have a problem. The only files that the Popbox has issues with are seamless branch (which you wouldn't have to worry about with mkv or main movie Blu-ray rip if you use Clown_BD). Are you streaming over the network? If so can you try playing from an attached drive to try and rule out network issues (although it doesn't sound like the problem)

Cross-post from the Popbox forums;

Well, I finally got the MKV to work after messing with it for a while. Ripping/Burning/Remuxing/etc. took the better part of my day yesterday trying to get it to play ... pretty absurd when it's advertised to play ISOs and BDMVs out-of-the-box.

The original rip was done using AnyDVD, then Imgburn to get the ISO. However, neither the BDMV rip or the ISO would play on my Popbox. I'm now also experiencing the same issue with another BDMV rip that I just tried. All BDMVs/ISOs play just fine on my PC, so there is an obvious defect with the Popbox.

Also, I still can't get the media library to work properly. It sees my shares (after adding them through the advanced menu) and I can play files by going to the usb/network tab, but I have to use YAMJ for scraping and building a library because the built-in library just sucks and refuses to recognize my media. At this point, it appears that my Popbox will not play any ISO or BDMV rips at all. Add in the media library issues and not to mention the general lack of support and documentation ... it looks like this thing might be going back to Amazon.

FYI - I'm playing the media over my network, which I am able to play large MKVs with 23Mb+ video bitrates and TrueHD/DTS-MA without hiccups. So I really don't think it's a network issue.

Strange, I'm having the opposite experience concerning the stock library vs YAMJ. Once I got the Popbox pointed to my share it has done a good job identifying and playing my media. YAMJ doesn't see 90% of my media. Not sure why considering the file types are the same in most cases and even in the same folders.

Seems to be nothing but complaints these days over at the PB Forum and the folks at Syabas seem to be quiet as a mouse, except for the lowly employees who can't help in any way by offering any resolutions or a reliable time frame to fix a lot of the issues that still plague this box.

Even that V8 crap that they have came out with seems to be having some issues, I must say it is still amazing to see how ridiculous some of these companies are ran.

Well now that I've got YAMJ figured out I'm actually pretty happy with mine. There's a bit of a learning curve but I've got everything working now and it's very simple to add new media now that I know the process. Granted, I haven't tried a wide range of file formats but so far everything I've thrown at it plays great. I mainly wanted it for BD ISO's and it handles those perfectly. Right now I'm a happy camper.

I should mention that I was really just testing the water on this whole media center setup with the PopBox. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a player only to find out it's more trouble than it's worth. It's basically sold me on the concept and next time around I'll probably spring for a more powerful unit. In my opinion the PopBox is a solid piece of equipment considering the price, though.

Happy with mine. Plays my mkv, dvd/bd iso's with HD audio (no dropouts). The problem with product forums is people rarely post saying how much they love their system and no improvements are necessary. Usually the posters are posting because they are having a problem they want fixed. Problem is, you don't know if those 5 posters are 5 of 5 of 5 of 100K.

agreed, I like mine. it plays all my stuff and gives me little trouble. I'd love to see more support for it though.

There is supposed to be new fw in testing right now. That's what they've been saying for a couple months, though. On the PB forum today, the moderator said they have stopped production of the PB 3D. So, if we get this new fw, it will probably be the last one.

I love my PB too. It plays everything that I throw at it without any problems. Any problems that I've had has turned out to be my network. In fact, I bought a second unit for backup purposes. A new firmware update was released to beta testers today and I think will be released to the rest of the folks soon.

I see no reason to continue production of the PopBox 3D. I would expect instead the V8 will eventually be made available globally and not just in Europe (The v8 is a much better player then the 3D)

has there been any word on when they might offer it in the US?

Nothing as of yet, I think they want to get a few more US online content partnerships before they make their move in the States (but I gotta think it is only a matter of time)

I did have issues with the Popbox stuttering BD isos from my old setup, WHS v1 using 3x 2TB WD EARS drives pooled with WHS Disk Extender (turned off while watching movies)

New config is Server 2008 R2, 5x 2TB Hitachi 5K3000 drives in a SANS digital eSata enclosure in RAID5. I average 109MB/s throughput

No stuttering issues whatsover

v8 now available in the US, which is what I would expect since the 3D is no longer being developed.

So on their website they are selling the PopBox3D and the PopBox V8 for the same price. Would there be any reason for someone to buy the 3D over the V8? I would think they would have dropped the price of the PopBox 3D.

Zero reason. Since the v8 just appeared maybe they will be in the process of doing a clearance on the remaining 3D inventory

I was thinking the same thing. If the v8 had been available when the A-300 was, I would've just opted for the $90 cheaper v8. I don't see any real benefits of A-300 over v8.

Isn't the A300 sigma chip even faster than the V8?

I'm still hoping for a C200 replacement next year.

Although I would certainly like a V8 over my 3D PopBox. I wonder if I could even sell my PopBox to anyone?

According to the Iboum website the A-300 is using a Sigma 8647@800Mhz and the V8 is using a Sigma 8671@700Mhz

So, what are the differences between the V8 and the 3D?

Damian, as you've tested both, do you find the A-300 noticeably faster than the v8?

No noticeable difference, or negligible at best

The Popbox v8 box and datasheet both have UPnP logos on them but I see nothing in the manual about it. Does this actually support UPnP? Specifically could I view Playon on this?

For bluray iso rips (main movie only) are forced subs working? ie. avatar, district 13, etc.

When I tested they were not working (Used District 9)

Interesting that it's not working for other people. It's always just worked for me. I've tried it on several movies and had success including Avatar, District 9, and Transformers Dark of the Moon.
