Any tips/links around how do I keep my external USB hard drive connected to the PB v8 & run YAMJ ( or copy mkvs to that hard drive) from my mac ( instead of moving the HDD around)?

If the popbox has nas features, then you can try that. Access your movies from your computer and run YAMJ.

The popbox has zero nmt apps so no way to access the drive from a pc, you will have to keep plugging and unplugging.

Just to note the v8 did have a fully functioning html5 browser. But it was removed at the last minute. it still has functioning html5 apps just not the full browser. So this could open up some more possibilities for the popbox v8

I reverted to popbox beta firmware since DEC. final release broke scanner. Aside from actually working I find beta to perform better also. It can be found halfway down this page

Is that the link halfelite posted - that's for PB 3D, is it the same one for v8?
yes, link above will take you to hallflites post with 3d popbox beta firmware. V8 & 3d PB use different firmware.

I spoke to soon. I installed beta. Scan works but update still fails to remove movies that I've deleted. I'm using NFS share. Has anyone here got "UPDATE" media button to work on this beta?

It doesn't work and I don't think they have any plans to fix it either.

The unit is dead support wise.

There will be some good news announced early next week regarding PCH and Popbox.

Also, are you guys going to star carrying PCH's too? and will you carry the HDTV Dune media players?

We think the surprise is that Diamond will be carrying PCH and Popbox (it shows on their site now although not active)

Are they continuing the advancement of the original Popbox?

I still use mine and as a local content streamer, it streams all my Blu Ray rips, very high bitrate included, with HD audio flawlessly. Something my Boxee just cannot do.

^+1... And with YAMJ/Eversion and one of the available skins a very slick GUI/Jukebox to beat.
Info is up on the blog now and the main site has been changed yet again. What this means is a lot more local (US) support, new upgrades and accessories (custom rack shelves, keyboards, etc.).
^ When will these be available on site to purchase? Do you have target for the C4 driver? I just need a basic navigation driver to mimic remote via IR since I use YAMJ as the jukebox, and prefer that to what C4 media library offers.

That's great. I just saw them on your website. I'm thinking of possibly ordering a A-300 since the Dune's pricing went up too much.

How about selling the Med8ers as well?

On a boat from HK. Somali pirates allowing, about 18 days. Driver competitor Extra Veggies has a great PCH and Popbox driver right now. Ours will follow in about a month.

Man these things are small aren't they? You guys mostly putting them behind TVs in the room itself with 3M double sided tape?
Double sided tape? Would anyone actually tape a box to their TV?

yes or a vesa mount. the only bad part is the IR remote so you either need a blaster or do some mods to make an external ir eye

Yup, velcro tape. The one thing Syabas blew, the SageTV HD300 used the same body, and actually had an IR extender that plugged directly. Syabas really should have gone this route as well

Yes. Velcro tape I can see using. But diamond design said 3M double sided tape. That I couldn't see using.

So Damian, I'm curious where you use all your streamers. PopBox v8, PCH A-300, Dune, Mede8er, and not sure what else you've got? I have quite a few as well, but I'm sure you have many more .

OK, here is the rundown:

Dune Smart D1 - Bedroom
Dune BD Prime - Family room
PCH A300 - Playroom
PCH A200 - Basement
Popbox v8 - Basement
Mede8er - Guest Room ( where I do cardio on an Elliptical machine)
Prodigy - Floating around between rooms (i.e. to test Blu-ray 3D, etc...)
HTPC - Family room (rarely used anymore)

I think that covers everything. The 2 Dunes are the main players (in part because they are the most reliable)

I am also contemplating doing something in our backyard, so a player will make its way out there or I will buy a new one (Popbox v8 would be perfect if some of the bugs can get worked out)

So, did you get rid of your HiMedia HD900B? Here's my breakdown, and this is after I pared down recently ... going off-topic, I know, but it's fun.

Basement home theater: PCH A-300, Mede8er MED450X2, HiMedia HD900B and Roku 2 LT
Family room: Boxee Box and Roku 2 XS
Kids room: Boxee Box
Bedroom: Boxee Box

Now, if there was a single box (not HTPC) that did 2D, Blu-ray 3D, proper hd audio and had decent online content, I could get rid of all my boxes in my HT and use just that one box.

Still have the HD900B, really should just throw on eBay already since I haven't even touched in months.

I don't watch online content so at least for me that makes things easier. I may pick up a Roku because I think my boys would get a kick out of Angry Birds on the TV lol

That's partly why I have it, plus Frisbee Forever, Super Stickman Golf & Downhill Bowling 2 . But, Roku is nice for online content hard to get w/o HTPC, like BBC World News (UK stream), better Netflix UI than Boxee/other streamers, Amazon VOD, etc.

We use 3M double sided for alarm sensors (like wireless door/window, etc.) and other things that do not need to be moved once up. Its not permanent but it wont fall (not that velcro would).
Damian will all of those players controllable by Control4 you should dump the IR and get a small controller and you'll have IP control. I control my dune, roku and PCH all with C4 over IP.

As of now not sure IP control is really the best option. In my family room all my gear is behind a cabinet, so we just use a Harmony 900 w/ RF to control. Simple enough and effective.

If/when I do anything in our backyard IP control will probably make more sense.
