Is this the first Blu-ray release in the UK? The US edition was apparently not a great transfer (early MPEG-2), so it'll be interesting to see what this one looks like.

Yep, so like Pathe's Descent I am hoping for a good transfer

It's not the most modern-looking disc, but both the transfer and the encoding are OK. Slightly mushy at times, but it's filmlike, there's never any excessive DNR or EE, and the encoding is better than a large number of Warner's modern VC1 encodes.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one, though I don't see why Pathe would have access to a better master.

Sony's Spanish release is AVC and looks basically the same as their MPEG-2. I did a comparison, I think in the Best version of multiple releases thread.

They may need a new HD master besides a new encode for this one. I hope this version is maybe the one to get for now.
