I'm asking this question here as I'm most likely to find people dealing with rack mounted equipment here than in the regular people forums
I have two Motorola boxes in my rack (1-HD/DVR QIP 6416-2 and 1-HD QIP 6200-2). The 6200 never gets more than warm to the touch but the 6416 is smoking hot all the time even when OFF or in standby. You can hardly hold your hand on the top. Has anyone else noticed this?
I did not notice this until I was in the room where the rack is located and noticed the back-up cooling fan coming on with the rack powered down.
That fan shouldn't come on unless it gets to 85 degrees inside the rack.
