As of now I don't know of any webshops that have this release in-stock. So while you could try www.frs.nl or www.bol.com - I cannot give you any guarantee you will receive the right version. In any case, they still seem to have it up for 'pre-order'. Within a few days I can probably tell you which webshop are 'safe' to order from.

Apparently Universal had a problem producing the new steelbooks for this release, so they re-released the old steelbook artwork with an additional sticker for this remastered release. To make things even more confusing, Universal will be updating the steelbook to the intended artwork somewhere in august.

I bought the disc for 13 euro at my local Media Markt. I hope I haven't given you all the impression that this will be the general price. You will probably pay somewhere around 20 euros (excluding shipping) when buying from a webshop.

Oh and yes, it also contains the extended cut.

I think i would wait.No dubt Universal will be releasing this worldwide.. i dont think they would spend so much money and time to remaster the movie only for it to be released in afew countries. No doubt this will come out alongside the blu ray release of Robin Hood.. i know theres going to be a combo pack that is due out that will contain Robinhood and Gladiator im sure universal will sneakly pop this edition in alongside it.. besides im not a big fan of non english cover art..pointless having it if you cant read it

I don't doubt that it will eventually be released worldwide. I'm just impatient.

This is something to gladly get excited about after the failure that is Predator UHE. I hope Fox is taking notes here.

Also interested in this information.
Cause in the first edition the extended parts looked better, but not this better.

Ordered from where? Do they ship internationally?
Where are all who defended the upconverted garbage

If only Predator would get a proper remaster in AVC
post #48 of 1203
Interesting that some get it months ahead. Do they really think this needs to be bundled together with the worse Robin Hood?? I´ll probably order it from some .nl shop if we don´t get it before autumn here either.
This really makes the people that defended the original release look like fools. I love it.
Wow Excellent. Gladiator finally gets the transfer it deserves.

From Mediadis. They do ship to the US IIRC, but they're not showing any stock at the moment.

That's really a minority opinion. It's pretty safe over there.

Looks fabulous, almost Braveheart-worthy. Better late than never, Universal/Paramount!

Wouldn't it be ironic if the extended scenes now stick out because they look slightly worse than the surrounding footage instead of much better.

This is not the same transfer as the extended scenes on the previous release, this looks much better.

edit- ah yes, it is indeed much better. Hopefully we learn what the process was.

I would like to see caps of when Commodus is sitting at the throne where there was nasty EE combined with the poor use of CGI/green screen in the Sapphire release. Also the cap that we have seen over and over in the Sapphire release thread when I believe it was after the first contest Maximus had the sun behind him and there was heavy EE there as well.

I find it hard to believe the one scene I mention with COmmodus really looks good now unless it was all EE that caused it the CGI to look that much worse.

I would like to see or hear about those scenes or any where the CGI was used and how better it looks in this release.

If ALL the issues that were on the Sapphire series are not present in this release then I can only assume the Sapphire was straight DVD transfer to BD and why it looked so crappy.

Final comparisons for now.

You get the point, but it's just so much fun.

It was clearly not a "straight DVD transfer to Blu-ray", it was an old HD master that had all sorts of digital garbage baked into it, apparently put through some nasty DNR on top of that which resulted in the missing arrows, etc. The DVD-to-Blu-ray comparisons clearly show that, as crappy a Blu-ray as the original Sapphire GLADIATOR Blu-ray is, it was still from an HD master and had noticeably more detail than the DVD.
