My view on the C7000 Samsung plasma - Page 5

Personally, I did/do.

Drives me crazy to see a modern TV look like my 15 year old PC with chunky color bands.

No thanks. I'll turn a light on in the room and not notice the black level difference.

On the other hand, no amount of light turning on is going to make the Panasonic look smooth with low contrast gradiants.

Well, I am no videophile by any means...

All I can tell you is that with the TVs side-by-side and using the same connections and content and "identical" settings, I liked the picture of the Panasonic MUCH better...

I used to be a big Panny guy. The first thing that I noticed about my new Sammy plasma was how much cleaner the image was. The scary thing is that the image got a lot less noisy after 150 hours or so, it is now cleaner than the LCDs that I owned a year ago, even upclose.

Needless to say, the 2010 Samsung models have greatly impressed me, something that Samsung has failed to do for many years with their plasma line.

(If Discopaul was here he would be laughing and pointing saying "told ya so!")

I agree. The over all picture is very VERY clear.

The VT25 blew away the Samsung in every instance - it was not even close.

Again, this is just my opinion and others may very well like the look of the Samsungs over the VT25.

Also, the bezel of the C7000 and C8000 was not attractive, it looked and felt like grainy plastic - it cheapened the look of the TV a lot - again, my opinion.

That, and the HUGE font SAMSUNG on the TV versus the more subdued smaller font Panasonic made the Panasonic much more ascetically pleasing.

Actually it was not just my opinion, it was the opinion of my friend I had with also, and the TV guy...

My experience is that the "TV guy" will always favor the set that has the higher price tag. That is what he/she is paid to do.

Not always. But for the most part still true.

Man I saw the Panny VT next to the Sammy 7000 yesterday and I dont see how anyone could buy the sammy over the Panny. The Sammy looked like crap and the VT Panny blew it away in 3D. Couple that with the problems with sammys customer service and I can come to the conclusion price does not always equal satisfaction

Blew or away on the 3D? They are practically identical when viewing 3D content. The panny does have the best 2D picture. 3D wise. Most plasma sets all stay pretty close to performance.

Until Panny has fixed the rising blacks (it has been stretched out to years instead of weeks, but it is still programed to rise by a factor of 3x) I can't recommend a Panny Plasma to anyone.

That's honestly a very big reason I didn't get the VT20. Rising blacks just wasn't worth it to me.

Most sellers were/are offering this deal for another month or so. Not sure who you bought it from but most of them had this deal. Amazon, ABT, US Appliance are some of the names that still offer it.

Yep right now, even in Canada most retailers are offering the pn50c8000 for 2000$ ( which is between 300$ and 600$ cheaper here in Canada ) with the free bluray players (6900) and 3d kit.

Need to make up my mind if I want to try a plasma for the first time. Buzzing and IR are putting me on the fence.

I feel ya. I wrote up this thread because this is my 1st plasma. I was a big LCD guy. This thread should help a buyer out a bit.

This has been a very helpful thread. I'm looking at either the 50" C7000 plasma or the 55" LED-LCD C6800/C6900(exclus. at BB). Never had a plasma and the 50" set would be perfect in size. 55" may be just too big and 46"
not big enough for 1080p from 9-10ft away.
Room is mixed use family room with windows, my big concerns with plasma are
1) Glare
2) Image retention
3) Longevity

I'm glad to hear that IR seems to be a non-issue with new plasmas. I notice many of the new sets have some form of glass that give reflections, even the new LCDs. Is the plasma really worse?

In terms of longevity, what are the 1/2 lives of these sets. Don't they get dimmer with age?

I'm still on the fence, maybe I've been "programmed" by the years of bad plasma press.

I haven't seen many reviews on the C6800/C6900 but there are some users here in the forums.

Going to Best Buy this week where they have both up for comparisons.
$1500 for PN50C7000, $2199 for UN55C6900 (ouch).

The only regret I've ever had buying a set for the most part is size. For some reason there is a big difference between 50/55. 50 just looks a bit small.
I'm coming from a 42" Sony LCD proj 720p (7yrs old). Thought 46" would be fine but I'm reading that for 1080 to really come through at a reasonable viewing distance, 50"+ is better. Good thing is compared to what I have now, either of the sets I'm interested in will be a huge improvement.

Very true. My 1st set was a 40 inch. 46 seemed huge when I had 1st gotten it. Now I have up to 55. I can't go smaller then 50 now.

I did it. Only had it one evening so far but the picture looks great.
Firmware: 1009

Only 1 HDMI input (FIOS box), put in/out of game mode did not notice any difference?

Did not notice any buzzing either. Got a great deal at Best Buy.

I'll update after I've had time to play with it.

"I did" what?

Saw my first IR, hooked up the coax cable to the TV and let it run an Auto search for stations. Display had that mostly static menu up while searching (white on black background) ~ 10-15minutes. I could see the retention when the screen was mostly dark (lasted a couple of minutes).

My only concern is that the kids might leave the wii on and forget about it and the home screen could sit for hours... need to have a talk about that with them.

Just hooked up the blu-ray player, Iron Man looks great.

There are protection features you can enable on the set to help what your worried about.

I have yet to sit down and read the manual carefully. I did see something about pixel shifting and a screen saver. How does the screen saver know when to come on? For example I don't think the Wii menu is completely static, I'll have to test it out.

If you want to be safe. Use all the burn protection features at there smallest numbers. Screen saver 10 mins pixel shift every 2 etc. I wouldn't worry to much about burn in. You will always get a little IR. But everything always goes away. My 1st 45 days of owning the set I had put the tv to the test. I left the COD menu up and sitting on the set for about 4 hours. Yes there was EXTREME IR after that. But it still went away within 15 mins of gameplay of movie watching. I was afraid of burn in being this is my 1st plasma. But it's really something over rated. I never did break in. I've been gaming since day 1. Set works great.

Man Juke great thread, this has cleared all buyers remorse I could possibly have about this set. You use for the exact same things I do and its my 1st plasma aswell so gaming had me worried with halo reach around the corner i know 12hr session will happen pretty frequently. Im scared of IR so much I paid $400 for an extended warranty for 4yrs, do you think i should get my $ back. Sears claimed they cover burn in.

I bought a G10 a year ago and bought the warranty because I feared the IR. Needless to say I play Halo A lot and have had 0 problems.

I'd look into getting a cheaper warranty. I'm not worried at all about burn in. But, it would suck to have such a great TV die after factory warranty is up. I always believe it's better to be safe then sorry. Keep a warranty for sure.

Yeah. Sometimes that happens. But it's better to be safe then sorry. It's the weekend. I game for 6 hours at a time sometimes. Even more when I don't have to work.

Glad to hear this has been a help for people in there purchase. Pretty much the exact reason I put this thread up.

I got myself a C7000, first Plasma and have to say I was worried about IR before purchasing. After having it for 3 weeks, playing lots of Halo 3, movies (with black borders) and general TV viewing, I haven't seen any IR at any stage - not once.

Granted I don't leave the desktop of my laptop sitting on the screen for hours on end, but if you're general viewing it's a bit of a nil issue now I think!

Good to see new plasma owners not "babying" the sets. I always laugh when I see plasma fans give all the "baby the set advice". If I had to do all the stuff I read here(not in this thread) I would not have ever bought a plasma.

Yeah. I agree. Plus, I just don't like the idea of treating my set like a baby. Otherwise, why'd I get it in the 1st place. If it can't live up to my expectations. Then Theres no use in me having it.

Yeah, babying a plasma serves no purpose, better to ride it hard that first month and see just what it can take while you can still return it.
