Colors Washed Out with Blu-ray on Sony 46EX500

I just recently purchased the Sony Bravia 46EX500 LCD television and when it comes to HD Cable and playing games on the PS3 it looks great, but Blu-ray does not look as good as I expected. The colors seem to be a little washed out and some scenes seem to contain a mild grainy look. I use my PS3 as my Blu-ray player and have it connected to my television with the Monster M2000 HDMI Cable, best one on the market, so I am confused as to why its not displaying as sharp as it should. I am currently using the Standard Picture mode on the Bravia with the Ambient Sensor activated. Anyone have any advice on how to improve the picture quality with Blu-ray movies?

What resolution are you sending the BR content in over HDMI to your TV from your PS3?. I don't think cables have anything to do with your problem since with HDMi if your are recieiving the image without pixelation or dropped frames then cable quality is certainly not an issue.
BR film disks are encoded in 1080p24 fps format and depending on the motion compensation settings your have seleted on your TV and the resolution of conten your are sending to the TV, and the PQ settings on your TV for the HDMI conection number your are using for the BR player.

Maybe check the PS3 settings to make sure it's outputting Y/Pb/Pr for blu-rays and not RGB? I'm not sure.

Also, I think you're going to get some flak for owning a monster cable.

I'm sending 1080P signal and have RGB Full Range on Full as well as Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White on.

RGB Dynamic Range should be limited on Sony TV and limited on PS3,when you use the TV as a computerscreen (online games etc)set RGB Dynamic Range to Full (on TV and PS3).

I haven't tried this with Blu-ray but while playing PS3 games turning RGB to limited makes the colors seem more dull. Does this make sense?

Nick are you sending 1080p/60 or 1080p/24? Have you tried 1080/60i?

I did not mess with any of the settings dealing with the refresh rate. I am running Blu-ray off of the PS3 and have not changed any of the settings on the television.

A calibrated Tv will look dull if you never have seen it before.

Visit the EX500 thread or the EX500 Calibration Settings thread for setting advise.

Ok so what I am saying is that when I play my PS3 games, the colors pop out a lot more with RGB on Full compared to Limited. The same would not apply to Blu-ray movies?

Hey Nick, Try Turning off your ambient sensor and shifting your tv out of standard and into vivid. Since Your Tv And Playstation are Sony Products and all games get passed by Sony their could be your connection as to why the video games look so much better on your sony tv. try playing with your back light as well as contrast leves while you watch movies. not all movies use the same levels ie. horror (dark) vs animation (bright)! there is no easy button for your EX500. though through practive you can switch levels to suit your needs.

If you like full then use full.

Its Limited ,TV video levels (16-235) - Full, PC levels (0-255).
