Sony BDVE300 or any other suggestions? $500 budget

whats up guys. im new to this forum. especially because im in need of a home theater system. i was willing to spend up to $500 on a home theater system, which i figured was enough to get me a pretty decent system, but finding anything under that price wouldve been greatly appreciated. ive been looking for a like a week now, and i saw that electronics-expo.com has the Sony BDVE300 for $325, which is definitely a good buy for me since im not trying to spend my whole budget on a system. its their daily deal, and i only have until the end of today to decide. if anyone can check it out and get back to me, it would be greatly appreciated. they described it as a 5.1-Channel High-Definition Blu-ray Disc Player/DVD Disc Home Theater System (Black).

Onkyo HT-S5300, Onkyo HT-S3300, Onkyo HT-S6200, Denon DHT-590ba

I am assuming you do not have a blu-ray player. these all in one blu-ray htib aren't the best

I would get the Sony STR-DH710 Reciever and then Jamo S413 5.1 speaker kit, and then buy a $100 bluray player.

Do you have a PS3?

It depends on what you are looking for...

Questions:
1 - Any other inputs you need (Cable / Sat, Gaming Consoles, TiVo, etc...)
2 - Room layout (size / speaker placement)
3 - Did you want an integrated BluRay player?

nope..no ps3. how much will the Sony STR-DH710 run me?

2-decent sized living room, but i would like it to focus on the living room. i dont want it blasting throughout the apartment lol
3-either way it doesnt matter, bc i dont have a blu-ray anyways, so yeah, an integrated blu-ray would come in handy

Scratch the dh710. Last years model the STR-DH800 is higher level, same as the current 810 and much better that 710

As for speakers the Jamo S413 5.1 set or Polk RM6750 are within your budget. I personally have a ony STR-dh700 and Polk RM6750 and love it for cheap 5.1 in my apartment

please define "decent size" decent size living you in NYC is different than decent size in Idaho farm land. Give us a dimenion estimate


As for a Blu-ray player, are you willing to spend the extra $5-10 per discs? Personally i have a blu-ray player and only buy blu-rays with action movies otherwise its a waste for me. You at least have an upcoverting DVD player right?

If it was me I would get the Sony STR-DH800 with the Polk RM6750 5.1 kit as I have found that this set-up continues to impress me on a daily basis

The Sony STR-DH710 is just a Receiver and you could get one for about 220-240.

If you go that route, pick up the Jamo S413 5.1 speaker system. Or since you like in an apartment and I am sure your neighbors do not want to hear the bass coming from your apartment, you could go with the Jamo S406 5.0 speaker system (5.0 meaning no subwoofer, but the front tall boys should pack enough "umph" The S413 is around 200 and the S406 around 250. So we are approaching your limit and you still need to get speaker cable and such.

If you decide to go with a HTiB solution, I would consider the Samsung HT-BD1250 (integrated BluRay player) and is approx 450-550.

The bass out of the Jamo s413 sub or Polk rm6750 will put out just as much bass as the S406 These small subs are more of a mid to mid low sound as they are small 8" going with the satelites. Reason I purchased the RM6750 is the sub was front firing and not downfiring so the sub wouldn't be pointed at my lower neighbor

decent size being about 450 sq. feet. and as for blu ray, i honestly dont mind spending the extra 5 to 10 for discs. if it means having a crisper picture, im fine with that

So your living room is about 21x21?

In that case I would suggest the Jamo S406 5.0 set as you are going to need a larger front sound stage which the floorstanders provide. I can certainly tell you that satelite based systems and the HTIB you are looking at will struggle to fill your room

When you get money you can add a separate blu-ray and then a subwoofer down the line
