The concept for this film is so stupid that, even with your very life at stake, the person who cares about you most in the world has just now laughed themselves into a Tourettic seizure and are currently twitching on the ground while screaming obscenities. Keep in mind they are doing this despite being fully aware that this will shatter your fragile psyche and you will likely respond by sprinting into the bathroom to eat a Vicodin and Cognac Sandwich.

LOL! Great column, and too true.

Long piece. But I laughed out loud more than once.

Funny, but I am definitely looking forward to 'Devil'.

With the exception "The Happening" I actually enjoyed the stuff from M. Night Shyamalan. Of course many of his stories is actually very dependet on good direction.

The "Cracked" article is hilarious but too gleefully cruel. I do agree with one contention in the article: Night's strengths are in the visual aspects of film making, not in the area of writing. So I would also prefer to see Night direct a story someone else wrote (and he did not re-write).

Agreed, though he's shown that directing can be a weakness of his too (unless everything he's directed was something he wrote...I'm not sure on that one). I liked The Sixth Sense. I found it to be a very well made and creepy movie. I liked Unbreakable. It had its flaws for sure, but overall I still found it enjoyable. Beyond that, I'd have to say that I have no desire to see any of his movies more than once. To go a step further, I'd say they're just plain bad....though I'll just have to take RT's word on Airbender since I haven't seen it.

He definitely needs to do something to get back in the game after, in my opinion, every movie he's done since Unbreakable in '00.

Everything he's directed so far he's written himself. And to my knowledge, no other writer has been anywhere near his scripts of those films.

He did write the screenplay to the Stuart Little movie, although other people worked on it, too. On this thing, he's just listed as having done the story, and another writer is doing the actual script.

In that case, who knows.... Maybe someone elses thoughts in his hands will work out better.

I found the article snotty and egocentric. The Trailer caught and held my attention. Guess we have to see how it all pans out.

Go easy on Frank. He's Australian. He spends most of his days trying to escape great white sharks.

I'm imagining M. Night getting choked down by a kudzu vine right now.

Don't worry about that the best solution to that is keep away from the beaches. But it's not that bad here.

If Jaws made me afraid to go into the water, M. Night made me afraid to go into the theaters.

Zing!!!

I see sour grapes. How come? Sixth-Sense was a really good moving-picture show. Is this a dump-on thread, with the quips here being more important than the the fact that this guy is still going?

Everyone makes bad moving-pictures from time to time, even actors perform badly from time to time...

M. Night Shyamalan seems to be a demon of sorts here.

Can we discuss why?

I'm Joe-six-pack more than less, and I don't know what's good or bad, I guess, compared to what appears to be an elite groups of folks here on this thread. (Not everyone )

Reading this thread makes no sense to me. Do some of you non-writers, non-directors, have any idea how sullen you sound? The opinions are all valid and legal, but come on. What actually DOES get your rocks off???

Wow Paul, are you related to M. Night or something?

Yeah, everyone makes bad movies, but seriously, we dump on him because we love him (Nah, his movies just suck). If he ever makes a good movie again I might bother to see it, but as I said before, after watching The Village I just wanted to kick him in the nuts.

M. Night Shayamalan's movies suck now. As with any person who puts their work out for the public, they are welcoming both accolades and criticisms. M. Night just happens to be enjoying the latter lately. If he starts making decent movies more akin to The Sixth Sence and (IMO) Unbreakable, I'm sure many of us sullen haters will praise him for it.

I liked SS very much, and Unbreakable was super (I caught it late in life). I agree with the Village, though. But really, I think the guy is creative and very capable. No offense to anyone. I'm just typing as the moment dictates. He not really THAT bad, is he?

Edit:

Unbreakable was a gem... I started a thread on it some years ago and most agreed it was very good. Village, though, I agree. Was disappointed. Most creative people have there ups and downs not only in films, but in life... so I cut some slack and when something good comes out I just enjoy.

I see I misjudged some of the folks here, and I apologize. I'm mostly shooting from the hip, and if I fling-off where I shouldn't, well, I apologize. (It's all I can do)

I still liked that Trailer though. Seriously... sit back, and watch without preconceived notions. To hell with plot. Question will be, will it entertain?
the thing is his trailers are probably always going to look good because his talent as a director is immense.(IMO)Especialloy visually. But the writing...I agree SS and Unbreakable are his two best, but even then its how he tells the story more than the story itself that makes those two gems. And I think its his talent being wasted on scripts that don't mearure up that leads to the harsh comments. A lot of us are expecting masterpieces by now from him and thus are very disappointed in his work when it isn't even good.

At least he comes with something new, in a world were remakes and remakes seems to be the most common thing.

New =/= good. He gets credit for taking chances, but that doesn't mean that what he came up with is watchable or entertaining in some (most?) of our opinions.

When he comes up with something good again, call me.

And if you tell me Airbender is good, I will organize a posse of crazed redneck Americans to hunt you down.
