StarCraft 2 7/27/10 - Page 3

That's pretty intense. I'm really slow and probably consider to be in the bottom 1% skill wise. It's still a great deal of fun. 2v2 Can be a more level playing field where if you're paired with someone better they cab offer you advice on your build order. If your paired with someone worse, you'll have wished you were in 1v1 match with them haha.

Holy crap! Now I know why I'm better playing the computer on easy! My speed is probably 50.

Give it some time people will branch out.

Hah, yeah I know. I was admittedly just a bit frustrated after some matches. I finished my placement matches and noticed the league play has quite a bit more diversity.

The ladder system seems pretty solid. I got put into Bronze and the people I have been playing match up to my skill, or lack there of, fairly well. 8-9 record, so not doing awesome, but good enough to have fun while learning the game.

Warned ya the Koreans were badass at this game. They have freaking groupies (cute ones no less) and get paid to play this game.

It's not just the Koreans. I learned long ago that I just couldn't move the mouse (and my hands) fast enough to even compete so I just gave up.

It's not all that bad just stay out of the Koreans way

I am bad at RTS games as well, but it just takes practice like anything else.

I've done 9-10 missions so far. Utterly stellar SP campaign. Has a strong Firefly vibe.

Hah, strange that you would say that as I thought the exact same thing about the music, it has a very distinct Firefly sound to it.

And yeah the campaign is very well done. Easily the most interesting RTS campaign I've ever played, introducing some RPG elements to it, and creating very unique scenarios that aren't just defend this base, or destroy this base.

Here is a compro of GPU and CPU for Starcraft 2 performance.

http://www.techspot.com/review/305-s...2-performance/
post #72 of 119
That techspot article is very interesting. It's somewhat unusual how big a role the cpu plays in this game's performance.

The article also confirms the game only utilizes two cores. Also, the intel processors seems to perform a a little better on sc2.

On a somewhat related note, I don't know how many of you have been following the AA bruhaha, but I'd recommend you avoid the beta ATI Catalyst drivers that force AA on this title. Even mild AA resulted in serious framerate drops.
Most RTS are CPU heavy. The AI in in most cases are calculated by the CPU and not GPU.

Core i7 + Ati 5870 + SSD = great for laptop gaming!

Only gripe I have with the Asus and many laptops is the trend to use chiclet keys. I hate these keyboards and the lag. I use my Thinkpad more just because of this.

well, after playing the original for so many years. I am very pleased with this game. Even the campaign so far is top notch.

Win in my book if your an RTS fan.

So finally finished the campaign, time for some player games. First day I lost every dang game (Thursday) but I did no give up. Then I stopped trying to play like the campaign and focus on one race. I won, and I keep winning. Now sitting at a 70% win on 3v3 I played almost non stop from Thursday to Monday, almost getting to old for that..almost.

There are some fun player made games (Starship Troopers one is back) and others Bliz slipped in.

Lots of fun

I noticed over the past weekend the way the game matches people of the same skill. You will get 5 games vs other people to set your skill. Once that has been set you get only people of your same skilll level. As you win % goes up the people you play do get better.

I know I did not run into anyone with this level of skill the battle net, so there is hope.

Rank 1 in 1v1! ... .. in the bronze league

I'm hoping I get moved up to Silver soon. I think it'll be easier to relax and play games as a rank 49 or whatever, and not be worried about getting/holding rank 1.

Definitely having fun with this game, and I'm happy with the progress I have been making. Really my first RTS aside from mucking around a bit in WC3 so it's been a bit of a learning curve.

Show off!
Don't think I have any 1v1 in bronze.

Grats man
Heh, not really showing off as Bronze league is the worst of the 5 leagues. Still a long way to go.

What do you mostly play Wytchtone?

3v3 I like team play some 2v2, 4v4 games are RARE. I play mostly on weekends too. Bronze leage just dont have time to play as much as I want.
Pretty much the exact opposite of me. All my games are in 1v1 (aside from stuff vs AI). I don't have a single 2v2 match yet. I will have to give that a try at some point.

Finally got promoted to Silver. I'm thinking the game actually promotes you in the background, but then you need to play a bunch of games to see how you do there before it commits the change. I already had 400+ points and jumped to rank 17 right after going to Silver so i figure it had been tracking my rank there for a while without me knowing it.
I have had some wierd experiences with the ranking system. I have quite a few 2v2 ladders with friends that we are placed in bronze leagues. Pretty much what I expected as our skill level.

But with my random 2v2 placement I went 4 and 1. placing me in a Gold league. After going about .500 from there on out, it decided to put me in a platinum league Now I know my teammates are carrying me through some games. But I can definatly tell the skill level on my end is getting better as I am getting units faster. But my mid-long game still needs work

Have you seen the collectors edition box it looks awesome! http://www.squidoo.com/buy-starcraft...ectors-edition

I never played starcraft 1, but im loving starcraft 2 and im 0-7!

Its a blast.

Except its also putting a hole in my pocket just to play it from my couch on my projector.

Ati 5770 ($150)
microsoft x8 wireless mouse ($80)
K800 wireless illuminated keyboard by logitech ($100)
Adjustable overbed table to set my mouse on keyboard on from the sofa ($70)

I probably spent about 400 with the game itself.

I hope i get as much use out of this game as im expecting.

Realistically mouse upgrade was needed anyway.

Projector play is fun on this game. Don't forget to try some of the play made games. Those are can short and fun.

I just got my 5750 silent cell. So far the game runs great on my tripple core 3.0ghz, i clicked on fps and im getting over 50. THe only problem is im experiencing tearing.

I have not adjusted anything in ccc is their anything i can adjust to fix this? I dont know why im getting some screen tearing. Frankly i dont even know what to mess with or change in ccc i havent gamed in 10 years on a pc.

Also received my microsoft X8 mouse. Is their anyway to get rid of the led lights on this mouse while it was charging. My intention was to use this plugged in, and then remove the cable and go wireless when i play on my projector. I like my room dark with my projector so the led lights always on are annoying.

What drives are you using? The latest ATI drivers have some AA changes in it for SC2. I use the 5850 (when its working ) and a old 9800GT and I have yet to have any tearing that I have noticed.
