After I let it go a couple of weeks ago, I just used the Chroma 5 and the 21% red/white adjustment, and adjusted tint for cyan. This is kinda where I wish it had a THX color ability. The charts Ive seen show the colors to look better on the CIE chart, as opposed to the S2, unless Im missing something??

I was under the impression THX mode gave you pretty accurate color, as well as properly set brightness. Just needs a grayscale adjustment, which I assumed ( ) to be better than what the S2 could do.

You don't calibrate a S2 like that. Use the color setting I recommended for that set and tweak from there.

OK, thanks. Will give those in the 2010 a try. Appreciate the help.

What are your thoughts on a THX vs non THX model. Is it worth the $400?

I don't know how the st30 will perform post calibration. Ditto on the GT and VT.

Understood. On your settings, I remember now, when I first got the set, I used DVE and the Spears and Munsil disc, and my user menu settings for color and tint were very close to yours.

D-Nice, I think you said somewhere that this year's 40% higher contrast was split 30%/10% due to improved brightness and improved black, respectively. Does that mean we should expect MLL to be only 10% lower than last year's?

Here is the exchange from HDJ:

That 40% contrast is only being promoted for bright rooms.

Don't expect miracles in the MLLs for these panels, but they will be better than the VT25.

Would you say my information is correct that the 40% increase in contrast ration is split by 25% coming from the increase in brightness and 15% is due to the increase in black level.

30/10 split
That's right. I guess he also said that this year's Panasonics will have improved performance mostly in brightly lit rooms (through higher brightness and better anti-reflective screen filters) and not so much in dark rooms (which hopefully will be addressed next year).
Yeah, the newer filter is supposed to help with bright room viewing.

As far as release dates, Im a bit confussed,,,,I see release dates for the 65" sizes listed as:

March ST30 65"
April GT30 65"
May VT30 65"

Then I see it said that none of the 65" screen sizes will be coming out until May.

These are all dates I have seen listed on this thread.

How much of the information on release dates is guessing and how much is fact,,,, does anyone know the actual true release dates of the 65" screen sizes ????

Thanks in advance

Cheers

It just gives me more time to get more contracts so I can actually pay for this thing. If things go like Jan and the first have of Feb., I'll be cancelling my order and really crying. Feeding my family has to come before buying a new TV.

From avjunkie at HDJ, with regards to the VT30:

"in reference to the frame interpolation mode..with "soap opera effect" this is quite the exaggeration. I've played with this mode at CES. i've turned it up to the maximum setting and the minimum setting and noticed very little change. in no way is this mode emulating the look of led/lcd sets "

No offense, but if that's a real concern, how are you even contemplating buying an expensive plasma?

Even on my S2, which supposedly has some interpolation when the "Blur Reduction" setting is enabled, it doesn't look anything like what my brother-in-laws new Sammy LED-LCD does when he turns on the smooth-motion (or whatever it's called). I can't even tell the difference on my plasma, but on his LCD the difference is night & day (and it's not pretty!).

This feature is new and not the same as Blur Reduction, AFAIK. I think its more like the MJC on Samsungs, but not sure.

The effect is visible, from reports.

The new filter is specific to the VT30 though, isn't it? Their "Infinite Black 2" panel marketing? Or did they upgrade the filter on all models? My only option for TV location gets a lot of light during the day so I'm interested in this.

Not sure on other models, but VT is new.

Is that MJC, or what Panny is calling it?

Thanks for the input.

"Motion smoother" is a panny term from the manual.

None taken as long as you don't take offense when I say it's none of your business.
