Speaker Noob Question

Hello All,

I have an Energy Take Classic Set paired with an Onkyo TX SR-705 and a PS3 as my blu-ray player. The sound is pretty good. I have all the crossovers setup correctly and it sounds good, but I have this question:

Is it better to use these speakers with the optical toslink cable or should I keep using them with high res HDMI sound for blu-ray?

This set is a good set for a small room, but I think that even for a small room they don't have what's necessary to properly reproduce high-res sound and actually, that it would be putting too much stress on them.

Am I right on this or am I missing something?

Just run them with HDMI audio as its over all better quality. Why not have simplicty along with good audio. my cheap Polk RM6750 you can tell the difference from HD audio and non-hd audio

Whats the size of your room?
What is your complaint with the Take Classics?
What subwoofer are you running?

Not sure what PS3 you have but if you have a fat ps3 set it up using this

Thanks for the quick reply.

My room size is 9.5' by 11'. Its as small as it gets for a dedicated room.

I guess my complaint is that I don't hear a good separation from the speakers. I'm used to my older HT (which now I regret leaving it with my parents when I got married) that has full size fronts and rears. The sound was fuller, and u could tell where the sound was coming from!!

I was thinking it was either the speakers or their placement. I used the audessy sound setup from the receiver, so I just set the speakers wherever I thought they could go and then ran the auto-setup. But I'm not completely convinced.

My subwoofer is the standard that comes with the Classics. I know they later started selling just the sats and people paired them with a bigger sub, but for that small room size, the 8" sub is sufficient. Really! Its just sat separation that's not convincing enough.

Maybe i should include a picture of my setup so to give u a better idea.

OH, and I have the PS3 Fat 80GB. Right now its outputting multichannel PCM through HDMI to my receiver.

Thanks

OK,

Here are some pictures of my setup... I'm in the middle of a summer clean, so please don't mind the mess!

These were taken with my Blackberry camera. (3.2mp)

What do u guys think of it? See something wrong with speaker placement?

You'll get optimal sound using the lossless audio from HDMI over optical.

That's the drawback of small satellite speakers. Small sound in exchange for speakers which take less space which makes the wife happy. You'll get better fuller sound from bigger speakers.

If you want bigger sound, you know what you need to do!
