That's my assupmtion - probably another way to secure v1 -- but there weren't hardly any issues with the pre tested boxes from the little info I know - the pre tester was told the few issues were fixed in the next version release - but as I said as of 1.5 weeks ago that version wasen't let out of the bag and I 'did not' pressure for any further info since then

as soon as i read this: "Upon 1st power up - an update will most likely take place" my first thought was either the 1.0 download or a quick update to 1.0 for any last minute apps/features that are now finalized or coded.

Its a very good way of keeping things from leaking, but then you have to ask what testing has 1.0 gone through? The Boxee Beta has gone though the rounds with public beta testers and the invite only alpha testers. It would just surprise me that they would release a software release without some beta testing on the Box itself even if it was a small select group of people.

maybe Eli hasn't even used v1.0 yet

I've followed Boxee from the alpha thru the beta and now just a day or two away from the Box/V1.0

So far imho they've pretty much done things the right way in most all respects, including fixing the hiccups along the way, not to mention the "Tons" of content provided - there was a small blurb on the D-Link site a few weeks back that said boxee offered 80k different things to watch/view on Boxee - granted the majority of that content would not of interest most viewers - and that statement has since been taken off the D-Link site

We'll see very soon where v1 is (on the box - or in an initial update) - either way, I feel confident it will be a winner with very few hiccups to be concerned about - if I'm wrong, I'll invite all of you over for a "Crow" dinner

Indeed I agree, the Beta is pretty stable IMO with only a few hiccups that I ahve expereinced personally. Boxee has done a real good job of trying to please as many people as possible and listening to their community of many voices from many places.

I just realized I never looked into this:

The Boxee Box is single band Wireless N, correct? My router has N at 5GHz right now since 2.4GHz is swamped. I could be in trouble. I may have to run a wire I wasn't planning on running.

5 star review on Amazon already. I knew this was going to be a great product!

I dont think its ever been said if its dual or single band Wireless N....I could be wrong though..

Can you hear that giant sucking sound on the internet when we all connect ours?

I hope we can download and manually update..I hate the thought of timeouts that could possibly brick it!

I searched the thread and didn't see anything. The fact that it hasn't been mentioned probably implies it's single band.

Eli's been quiet for the past day or so, so we probably won't find out for sure until it starts showing up at people's doors.

That too just for the shape, without having purchased the Box

2) I currently have a few movies in folders, Boxee grabs the information just fine. I believe it takes the Folder name to try to scrape.
3) There are settings in the Beta which you let you set the intervals (you can do "live" scrapping. You can turn this feature off.
4) I do not belive Boxee as of yet does "local" scrapping, the developers are aware this is a wanted feature and may add it in the future.
5)You can manually search for any title that Boxee doesnt find.

Thanks!

For clarity...
2) Boxee beta doesn't care about folders - it only reads the file name. (I presume that will be the case for foreseeable future)
4) There is certainly no use of local file descriptions for video (ID3 tags for music) - internet scraping only at this time - Eli reports they are strongly considering using local .nfo files or similar - IMO it will be a few months before that is a reasonable possibility.
5) you can manually search, but there are still some titles that won't be found. (some international titles, exercise videos, video bonus features, etc) :/

I believe that ID3 tags for music works; what doesn't work is embedded album art and/or the folder.jpg scenario. IIRC the scraping related to mp3 files is for artist and album images.

:/

I'm not sure about that. All of my 1000's of .vob files are named VTS_xx_xx and my folder names are what contain the movie. The beta software can find all of the movies that are on imdb.

Yes, folder names are used.

Boxee will find movies and tv shows titles are in the IMDB database (for the most part) except for "straight to video" (V) items.

boxee not reading the folder name will be an issue probably for anyone planning on using ts or bdmv folders.

I have boocoo BD and DVD rips that are stored in two master folders (and in different locations/HDDs on the network) - one titled ISOs and the other 'MKVs' - inside each master folder each rip is stored in subfolders titled 'the name of the movie' leaving out the the words 'The', 'A' etc... for better alphabetical indexing - inside eack subfolder it the actual rip titled the default name given by the ripping software when ripped (I have a 'lot' of rips named "title00.mkv"

Boxee has found/indexed the many Tbs of content/folders on multiple 2Tb USB HDDs and an HP WHS - never missed a one

boxee scraper made a huge mess of my .ts files (hundreds unrecognized, behind the sceens/trailers/menus/etc. used instead of main movie) but eli assured us that this is fixed in ver. 1.0 i.e. boxee now understands the top level folder of a dvd folder structure as a single movie
