I don't believe it is a communication issue. But as it exists right now at its release I would consider it rather ho hum.

You click on files and Photos and Music show up on the second level. Boxee has already received feedback about bringing Music and Photos back up a level though so that might happen

But you sort of hinted at being misled while griping about the delayed announcement after shipment ...

Hope by Xmas part of your disappointment will be solved

Of course you are. But welcome to mindfuc.

Disparaging comments will be met at their genesis. Not allowed tonight but will be well discussed as time moves on.

This sort of thing chaps my ass.

You bought it with no confirmation of Netflix being there. However, we now find out in will be there within 1 to 1.5 months, and yet you plan to return it. ****, there's a fair chance it will actually be available within the return period.

It will be crap like this that eventually leads to Amazon changing its generous return policy. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!!!

Not to mention the price will go up after the initial period anyway. The box is great as it is, returning it with those features coming soon is plain retarded.
Who cares about Amazon. They handle tens of thousands of products. They can handle Boxee Box.

That being said I'd wait before returning. But again we find ourselves in the world of buy it now and then wait for "soon".

I doubt the price will go up. 12 months from now this will probably be a closeout item. Time marches on.

After what happened to GoogleTV from the networks I canceled my pre-order. I still kept my eye on the launch to see if there was anything new/special (there wasn't).

Clear this up for me. Is there any remarkable difference between Roku and Boxee (under the guise that the networks will block Boxee accessing shows)?

Don't flame me, i really want to know.

It's support for local/networked content is in a different league. It's power also allows for a smoother/more dynamic UI - for whatever that's worth

If all you care about is online streaming such as Netflix and Hulu Plus, then Roku is the better choice. If you care about local media streaming even a little bit (say, from your camcorder or from your photo collection), the Boxee Box is miles better.

Roku is a 'be capable of one job - do that job well - rest of the experience can be crappy'. Boxee Box seems to be a 'master of all trades - most of it works now - some will be enabled later'. Pick your choice

Roku blows. I hate the whole channels thing on it, especially that most of them are crap. In boxee, I search for voltron and the thing will find it and play it. I don't have to figure out where it is, which provider has it and I don't have to launch their specific app.

ditto - boxee made no guarantee in regards to netflix or hulu at launch or at any time. anyone who bought it with that expectation has no reason to be upset when it's not there at launch.

also remember amazon extends it's return period until jan 31 for items purchased between nov 1 and dec 31. i think that's pretty damn cool and would hate to see things change because people can't read before they buy or assume what they want will happen simply because they want it to.

I originally posted this on the owner's thread, but I guess more people around here

For those of you that already got the BBox and will be getting the new update tomorrow, I have a question. The new Boxee website seems to imply that the Home menu "Shows" and "Movies" buttons are only for online content. Meaning that movies and shows from my nas I would have to go under files and just scroll trough a regular files list? That would be crappy :/ Anyway, if anyway can confirm how this thing works... Cause I only want my own NAS library displayed with beautiful covers and sinopsis =P

Also, no way to mark episodes/movies as "watched"?

I have a Roku and think it does the job. I never stray away from netflix or youtube (youtube browser needs a lot of work). Doesn't the top of the line Roku player (the XD-r or whatever they call it), add local content?

I'll be honest, i was looking forward to having my Boxee hooked up to my gigantic external HD with all my Star Trek and NCIS episodes. Loved the idea that each episode would have a description and have cover art. It just seems that from a year ago to now, the excitement meter for me waned for BB. However, everyone else has their own meter. lol

Im pretty sure that the "mark as watched" feature carried over. Just a question, if you dont want this for the online content then what for? There are other media players that do the same things with local content for cheaper...

Well, the apps for online content are useful... Youtube, VEVO, etc. Having to pay to rent a movie trough MUBI or something is not in my plans.

Sure, there are other players that play local content, but none of them have the possibility to display a library with covers, sinopsys and imdb ratings, plus the watched function which for me is a must have.

Oh crap, I completely forgot about that.

There is ZERO reason to return it. The updates will be available during the return period. If it's getting near the end and they still aren't there (ie. the dates slipped) ... then fine, return it so you don't get PopBoxed.

Assuming Shows and Movies are only for online, then yes the local content is located under files. My understanding is the list view is only necessary until your content has been scraped. After that, the thumbs should be available.

Also, you can search ... which aggregates everything ala GoogleTV to my knowledge.

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed that Amazon VOD is not part of the offering. I know Vudu covers a lot of it, but Amazon has a broad selection of TV (and probably some movies) that is not on Vudu as far as I know.

And, obviously, not having Netflix out the gate is an issue, but less so for those of us with Netflix solutions already plugged in.

im disappointed this doesnt have youporn .. imma cancel my order right now!

*rolleyes* LOL
They are aware that Amazon VOD is an app.that people want. If the BB/Boxee 1.0 get to enough people then we may see it down the road. They.do have a site.for suggestions ect so I.suggest everyone who.wants.it let Amazon and Boxee know by.voicing it to them directly.

i can't say i'm disappointed but it would be nice. if it had or gets amazon vod in addition to netflix i could drop my roku and finally have one box for 99% of my needs (assuming everything else works as advertised). i am surprised nobody asked about it at the event, hopefully someone gets the question asked to the right people and we get some sort of response.

Yes, people really wanted online conten separate from their local content.

Nope, local content is still resolved via IMDB just like before.

Once you add you NAS as a content folder and specify the media type (ie Video), the Boxee Box will scrape the folder system and find all of your media. A few minutes later it will load all of the content from IMDB and display them in tiles with there covers. Clicking on a cover will bring you to the synopsis.
Lol well there are adult repositories if that's.what suits your fancy

I haven't looked recently, but even if Amazon has a wider selection I think Vudu still has more HD movies - and the quality unrivaled.

One advantage of Amazon was that they've been coupling BD orders with an instant watch of the streamed version. However Walmart is starting to do the same.

That said, unless this flops I expect will see it show up anyway.
