I believe this how the Cylons eventually gained control. No override system by the humans and they got us just where they want us.
Geaux, I just came across a post on the Gefen forum that describes your problem with only getting 2.0 audio very well.
Here's the link: http://forum.gefen.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10633
and here is the pertinent info.
User post: I have been troubleshooting an issue all morning to find that I've encountered the same issue as you reported. When I have the HDMI detective plus in line (HDMI), I am only able to get 2 channel audio. As soon as I remove the detective, 5.1 and 7.1 speaker options immediately become available and I can once again do DTS pass thru, etc. Has anyone confirmed whether the HDMI Detective Plus can support full True HD and dts-HD MA, etc.? If not, I'll be returning mine.
Gefen Tech Support Reply: The HDMI detective plus does support Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio. You have to program the unit with an EDID that contains these audio formats (such as an AV receiver).
So when you have the adapter/gefen inline before the receiver, the DirectTV box/PS3 thinks your hooked up to a stereo only TV, and will only send the 2.0 Stereo output. This is disappointing as it seems to indicate the only way we're going to be able to get lossless audio and 3D at the same time is by getting a 1.4 receiver. You can tell that HDMI is a consortium of manufactureres, not consumers...It's not the fault of the Gefen, it does what it does, spoof the EDID you program in it. But the PS3 and DirectTV are too smart for their own good, and won't let you output formats they think are incompatible. Are there any Mitsu 3D-Ready TVs with built in 5.1 to grab and EDID from?
