Mitsubishi 3D Checkerboard Converter + Gefen HDMI Detective = 3D on Samsung HL61A750 - Page 12

My setup:
Mitsu 82837 TV
3DA-1 Adapter
Pioneer Elite SC-09 AVR
Ps3
Xbox 360
Directv HR22,

My experience.
I connected the PS3 directly to the adapter, configured the PS3, same with the Xbox .
The Avr tied every device together. The avr has a HDMI pass through, PS3 and Xbox 360 detected 3D setup of the TV.
The HR 22 could not detect the TV as 3D .
The only time I was able to get HR 22 to detect the Mitsu TV was when I connected the HR 22 directly to the adapter. HR 22 has to be reconnected to the AVr, I like it this way.
I am going to order the Optoma glasses very soon. I think I am going to use dlp link.
Any suggestion on how to make the HR 22 behave?
George

George,
This thread is for us Samsung Orphans. Yours is just supposed to work.
(With the AVR on and passing the HR-22.) Try a 20 minute unplug of your receiver. After it reboots and downloads the guide, try it again. The guide 3d channels may still be greyed out, but try them anyway, they may work as it takes some time for the guide to catch up and light up.
If that doesn't work, unplug the power to the 3da-1, disconnect HDMI source of 3da-1 and disconnect 3da-1 from TV.
Reconnect (with HR-22 on and tuned to 103) power to 3da-1. Reconnect source in to 3da-1 and wait 20seconds. Reconnect out of 3da-1 to HDMI of TV. Now, if your a religious man, pray for 20 seconds or so.....
If it doesn't work, I got a 72" Sammy I'll trade for your 82" Mit's.
Good Luck,
Jim

Passing current 3D through HDMI switchers at this time is more miss than hit. I'd plan on not doing that. There are work arounds.

Hey everyone. I'm wondering if maybe I should return my $430 panny300 bluray player within 30 days, and get that $240 samsung DLP set from Tru3D with the preprogrammed emmiter. By that time my PS3 will have firmware to play 3D movies also. That set from Tru3D will allow me to play 3D games on PS3 too, right (with the same TV as in the topic)?

I guess if anything I could keep the 3D player, and a year or so down the road, just get one of the smaller 3D plasma's for PS3 (and PS3 3D) gaming. That way I keep my favorite large 67" tv for 3D movie viewing, and have a nice slick smaller 3D plasma (50" or less) for PS3.

I got 3D working for my Time Warner Cable box running through an Onkyo AVR to HL67A750. Because TWC doesn't poll for a 3D capable TV I was able to connect the Gefen and 3da-1 between receiver and TV. I'll likely get the Panasonic player with checkerboard output for movies so I can keep the same simple setup.

Using the Xpand x102's I get a faint rainbow image that goes away if I tilt my head a little. Would love to figure out that little problem - everything else is great.

The 3D adapter set from Tru3D is $315 (including the $25 shipping charge) not $240.

Yes the set from Tru3D will allow for 3D gaming with the PS3. You could save yourself a bit of money and buy the items separately and just program the Gefen yourself. It's what I did, and with the money I saved, I was able to buy a pair of X102 3D glasses. If you don't have access to a 3D capable Mitsubishi DLP that's compatible with the 3D adapter, go with Tru3D's solution.

Well my Xpand glasses came and they are crap. I made sure to make it real dark in the room, and I sat straight from the TV only about 10 feet back. The 3D effect comes on like 10% of the time. And the glasses seem to stutter, flicker, and seperate the images slightly sometimes even when I can see the 3D.

Suffice it to say this has been a horrible experience. I've replaced the original battery with the "new" one and same problem. What could be my problem? I ordered form Buy.com through Amazon. Shipping was extremely fast. However the glasses just came in a box, with the extra battery and key in the box, no plastic or anything. Is that how they are supposed to come?

Do I just have a bad pair of glasses or is there something else wrong?

Fo realz.... It took me literally 15 seconds to program my genfen in the back at Fry's. If someone asks you, just tell them you want to buy the Mitz and you just want to make sure it works with your hardware....

The only thing besides the 3D glasses being faulty that I can tell you is that the 3D option on my picture options is OFF and greyed out. Maybe that is the problem? I figured it wasn't when cloudy no longer gave me the warning messege of needing a 3D tv and let me play the movie.

I tried everything in picture options to get the 3D option turned on but I don't have the manual I bought this TV store display model. If the 3D option is turned off would it even work 10% of the time? Help needed please.

I know my glasses will do that if you do not have the 3D mode on the television actually turned on mode 2. I have 3 pair of these glasses and they all work fine.

Make sure you are using HDMI input 3 for your 3D device. If it's still greyed out, try turning off a few of the extra picture options. As for your glasses, try Mode 2 under the 3D setting. I'm using the same glasses you are and they are working great for me. If Mode 2 doesn't work for you, send them back and get another pair. I'm pretty sure they will send you a replacement pair first and then you can send back the faulty pair.

Yeah, what I did was just go up there real early sunday morning right after they opened and asked the manager of the TV section if I could program my Gefen with one of their Mitsubishi DLPs. They said no problem and it took all of 2 minutes. Real cool guys.

Make sure your Panny is set to checkerboard output for 3D. Make sure you are using HDMI input 3 on the tv, press the tools button on the remote and arrow over to mode 2 for 3D. Tap the glasses on the right side and you should be good to go.
Thanks guys it worked! I didn't know to use HDMI 3. I was using HDMI 1. I have my TV set to 3D mode 2 now, the panny set to checkerboard and it works great! I see a little ghosting but I am going to mess around with the picture options to get this looking as sharp as possible.

It's been reported that going into your TV menu and renaming the HDMI 3 input to PC ( there are a number of names available ) will change the settings and eliminate the ghosting.

Yes, I renamed mine PC and no ghosting.
I did rename it PC maybe I'm just seeing things. Anyway I always have to keep switcing my TV back to 3D mode 2 even after like going back to the cloudy menu then selecting another 3D movie trailer. Kind of annoying. So anytime it switches back to 2D mode my TV doesn't automatically go back to 3D mode.

No, unfortunately, if you go back to 2D mode for any reason, you'll have to reactivate 3D mode from the menu. There's no way around that. I say the best thing you can do is get a harmony remote and setup a sequence to activate 3D mode at the touch of a button. That's what I do and it works great.

You know what. It's a small price to pay to beable to watch 3D that's as impressive as the 3D in the theaters right in the comfort of my old home. And without downgrading in size from my 67" which I love.

I'm gonna buy Avatar for PS3 as I've heard that outputs in checkerboard format for it's 3D mode. It'll give me something else to do while I wait for more 3D content. Right now I'd say I'm a pretty happy camper. And it's all thanks to you all. Thanks for helping me set up my TV correctly. It works wonderfully and it really does look as impressive as the Panny Plasma's that first blew me away at Best Buy.

That's cool. While your at it, head over to the Playstation Store and go to the 3D section. You'll find a few demos of 3D games that will work just fine with the adapter. I've played all of them except Pain. So far, my favorites are Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD. They look really awesome in 3D. The MLB the show demo also looks pretty cool in 3D.

Just a thought re: the ghosting, probably everyone's tried it, but toggle between mode 1 an mode 2 for the best picture. Seems like usually mode 2, but for some, maybe that could be what their seeing as ghosting.

Mode 1 or 2 determines which side of the ZpanD or Optoma glasses syncs first. Only mode 2 works for these two DLP-Link glasses.

If I purchase the (tru3D for 3D TV Adapter Kit for Samsung 3D DLP)
for $289 plus shipping preprogrammed for my samsung a750, this would enable 3d using my PS3?

for games yes, but not 3d bluray movies until the firmware update comes out.

Do you think the PS3 will work on movies when the firmware update come out?

Yes it's already confirmed that sony is going to update the firmware in september to playback 3D blurays. I'm personally gonna wait for the samsung adaptor that is rumored to come out. Until then I will have to look for demos or games that use checkerboard. I don't need the PS3 for BDs since I have the panny for that. But I'll need that adaptor for all my 3D gaming.

I just ordered the tru3d adapter for the Samsung:

http://www.tru3d.com/products/view_p...D%20DLP%20HDTV

I can hook up to PS3 for games and movies when update comes out.
I just did not want to purchase the panny if my PS3 would replace

Thx

Where did you hear rumors about a samsung adaptor? I'ld rather have that than go through the 3da-1 adaptor trouble.

You guys were loads of help by the way. I'm loving this thread. I saw that this became a sticky. You should post up the items needed for this setup in the first post. (to complete yourself, instead of just buying tru3ds)
