This will make a great home presentation for the parents, kids and HT equipment. Nice to be able to count on that when you cannot always rely on the live action adult themed movies. (why does it always sound bad like that?)

Very good review for them. 5 stars for AV and 4.5 for story. Pixars usually get 5's all the way across. They even belittle this movie a bit compared to Pixar in the review. I see very few 4.5 star rated movies on their site and even when HTTYD gets one it is a back handed compliment compared to Pixar. Funny. Oh well, love the Pixars AND this movie.

REALLY cheeses me off that there's banding, though. For me that would drop it from a 5-star review. Still can't wait for it, but even hearing the word "banding" makes me cringe like crazy...

There's not many animated movies that make it on par with some of the Pixar movies but IMO this one and Kung Fu Panda make it in. They aren't quite as good as the Toy Story movies or the Incredibles but still this is a very good movie IMO. And it doesn't have a lot of the adolescent humor in it that some of the other Dreamworks animated movies have.

Usually, minor banding will still drop the score. Thus I am assuming the banding is very small and the over all video awesomness is very large.

Never saw it and I generally don't have high replay value for lots of movies in this genre so a rental to start.

Maybe it will surprise me but I don't feel it will be amongst the top guns whereby I'd watch it alot so I'm being safe regardless of good quality scoring.

I put KFP up there as well. The AV is spectacular and the story is well done. Skidoosh.

I wasn't a big fan of KFP. I like it, but it's definitely not one of my favorite animated films...except for the a/v.

Not me. It's a definite blind buy. Arrives this Friday from Amazon. And this is the only movie worth buying for all of October.

It was just ok for me in the theater - not a huge Jack Black fan - but when we got it on bluray, and my then 3 year old watched it over and over, I liked it more and more. I enjoyed the banter between the other characters and was even touched at the scene when Po decides he does want to buy in to the training in the mountains. And the AV doesn't hurt...

Curious to see how HTTYD holds up on repeat viewings. I picked up The Waterhorse bluray on a impulse buy for $8.99 and my 5 year old has played it almost every day for the last two weeks. Didn't see that coming...

One thing KFP has going against it (at my house) is that my daughter is indifferent about it and my wife absolutely hates it. I've watched it several times after they've gone to bed, just for the a/v presentation.

They both like The Water Horse, but it's not one we watch a lot of. We did for a while, but it died off pretty quickly. We'll just have to see how Dragon holds up. I figure it will be like the decent Pixar movies, which is to say we'll love it, but probably won't watch it a ton like we do other live action films.

KFP was a blind buy for me and I can't stand Jack Black but I loved this movie. I watched it 3 times and liked it just much as the time before.

"Don't tell Monkey!". I love that bit.

Looking forward to HTTYD too.

This is most definitely a blind buy. I think I'm more excited than my kids. I already told the family come Friday night, we be training dragons. Oh yeah!

Ha! Having kids gives us parents a great excuse/alibi to be excited about the movie - you know for the kids to enjoy.

Gosh, my wife and I are 28 and we purchase almost every animation movie and re-watch them over and over (ok...every good animation movie). Love the stories, love the picture, love the sound. Most movies nowadays have trouble meeting just one of these aspects, let alone all three. No one needs an excuse to enjoy a great movie experience.

I know you were being facetious, though.

Absolutely. Not to mention that the animated films these days seem to have a better chance of being good than most live action offerings.

Point taken. Most of what I saw in the theater lately I should have chosen films in this genre instead!

I know it isn't just a kid's movie and with the A/V quality besides, I'm really looking forward to it.

Box office does not mean everything but the live action movies are a little weak this year for top 10 box office. Amazing to me that Clash of the Titans is still top 10.

1 Toy Story 3 $412,031,733
2 Alice in Wonderland (2010) $334,191,110
3 Iron Man 2 $312,128,345
4 The Twilight Saga: Eclipse $300,489,847
5 Inception $289,350,076
6 Despicable Me $246,672,180
7 Shrek Forever After $238,395,990
8 How to Train Your Dragon $217,581,231
9 The Karate Kid $176,591,618
10 Clash of the Titans (2010) $163,214,888

No kidding. I try not to let reviews determine what I go see, but with so much crap being pumped out (and costing too much to go see) you need every little bit of help you can get when trying to make a decision.

What's more amazing is that there was a worst movie this year. Resident Evil

You know, there's really not much else that someone could say and get the point across better. Just hearing that RE is worse than CoTT (form one person) is enough to make me stay far, far away.

Now you're hearing it from two people. Stay twice as far away.

I caught bits of How to Train Your Dragon on an airline flight, but the screen was far away and was a miserably pathetic old CRT so I didn't bother watching much of it. However the bits that I did catch made me want to see the whole thing. I'll likely rent it soon.

I like the RE movies. Though I haven't seen the latest one yet. It can't be that bad. A hot chick running around killing zombies. It has Wabo written all over it.

I wanted to watch this movie in the theater and I just didn't get around to it. It looks pretty good though and I think I will blind buy it tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed.
