There is no avoiding them unfortunately.

When it comes time I can have my guys supply you with the upgraded units we have to do ourselves. You can get power supply replacement kits but for best results you need to change a couple of the SMT parts as well. If noise is not a problem then fitting a fan also helps.

Also make sure that you have the new 1TB units as they are a good step up in overall quality.

Oh and make sure you have a remote addressable kill switch as they all need to reboot every so often. It is a lot easier to send a command from your PC than getting on a plane...

Peter, you have one too many vaults in that photo. The new specs are out and the 5U vault to use is the 300 disc unit and it includes an M-class player. Given the current 2TB drives, two vaults would completely take care of a 3U server. You can eliminate one vault and two players, freeing up 7U of rack space for a satelite targeting and tracking system for the Strategic Defense Iniatitive.

Dreambox or AB IPBox, much better than anything that Sky has to offer when it comes to their boxes. You only have to put the proper software on the box. CCCam or Gemini works.

And before anyone asks, this is legal. When you sign up to Sky, order the cheapest Sky-box available. You'll need the serial number from that box as subscriptions are activated with the SN. You have to put that serial number in the cfg file of the softcam. Once that's done, you can insert the Sky card into the box and it will activate without problems.

This is throughout Europe, how is Russia Handled? I know they have special sky channels.

Also would I be overkilling the electrical power with such a massive sine wave UPS?

I don't think Russia has a Sky package available, but even if they do, it shouldn't be a problem. The software on the boxes has a xml configuration file which stores the NDS-CA IDs, you can put anything in there and it will work.
Sky UK has the identifiers 0960, 0961 and 0963, Sky Germany 09C4 (bunch of others for non NDS encryption) and Sky Italia 0919, 093B and so on and so on.

Sky is of course trying to sell their own overpriced and badly performing boxes. And to be honest, I can't blame them to try. I have those boxes sitting on a shelf and use AB IPBoxes myself for my actual viewing.

Not sure what it is about the flowers on the latest 9900 box, looks a little odd in my opinion.


As far as the UPS goes, it shouldn't be a problem if you work with a local installer. Circuits are usually protected by a 16A fuse, providing around 3.6kW. But you shouldn't have a problem going up to 24A or even 32A. I had my HT fuse box connected with three 24A circuits which I split up again to several 16A circuits.

Opps, my bad, Bill has only 20 seats in his theater, not 200- what a typo Shoot his system is not any better then some of the ones in AVS Dennis, is your screening room as good as some of the ones you design and have installed?

From my perspective, ALL of you have the BEST home theaters on AVS

No joke, all of you should be proud of what you've accomplished (DIY or contracted). And you give the rest of us benchmarks to aspire to.

Steve, I would have to agree. It seems when you get to a certain level of sound and picture quality you can do no more, save upgrade to future souce technolgies, etc. All of my Top 5 AVS theaters are winners.

Bass quality and output could be a category in a contest. Jeff used to be called the "King of Bass". Does he have the best bass of these theaters? Steve, I was impressed with the chest pounding punch of your Aerial Acoustics subs, (even back when you only had one enclosure), but I believe Jeff is using something with more output. I may be wrong.
