3D - Upgrade my Onkyo to a 1.4 or my PS3 for 1.4 DVD?

I want the BEST picture and sound that I can. (without upgrading ALL of my equipment)

Options -

1. Keep my Onkyo TrueHD receiver and buy a 1.4 Blu Ray (Pana with 2 HDMIs) One 1.3 for the receiver and one 1.4 for the 3DTV

2. Keep my PS3 (with firmware) and upgrade my Onkyo to a 1.4 receiver and run my PS3 though the receiver. Even though the PS3 is 1.3 Sony claims it is fully capable to run 1.4 3D info.

Any suggestions...

I went for the lowest cost and bought the Panny player instead of replacing my Pionner SC-07 (which I really like!)

I thought there were HDMI devices that would strip / split off the audio and send it to separate components?

There are but none are 1.4 yet. Plus the good ones run 100 dollars. I am curious if the PS3 really can perform the way they say it can over 1.3

I think when the 3D is enabled on the PS3 you won't be able to run audio thru the HDMI cable, you'll have to run an optical cable to the reciever for sound. This is speculation however.

AFAIK there is not difference between how th audio works over 1080p 3D checkerboard and the 1080p 3D HDMI 1.4a SbS and TnB formats. Audio is different with the 1920x2205 packed buffer format from the 3D BR disk players.
