Forced subtitles in MKV playback

I need HELP with getting forced subtitles to play with MKV rips.

What is the best and easiest way to rip forced subtitles? I have been using Another eac3to gui with no luck.

Also I have installed sharky's codecs.

I rip using eac3to (the command line app), making sure to get all of the english subtitle tracks. I run each subtitle track through bdsup2sub to find the forced subs. If I find any, I include them when I merge everything using mkvmerge GUI.

AnotherEAC3TOGui will do this automatically for you. That's what I use.

i used this with GREEN ZONE and AVATAR and no forced subtitles showed.

After I use Bdsub2sub to find the forced subtitles which files do i add to MKVmerge

subtitle_exp.idx
subtitle_exp.sup
subtitle.sub

Or do I add all 3?

Here's how to remember: bdsup2sub (convert sup to sub). Merge the sub file.

Jet150,
Open Avatar file with MediaInfo and see if it contains a subtitle track. We need to isolate if its a playback issue or a file issue.

I don't think Green Zone had any forced subtitles.

Mike yeah Green Zone has forced subtitles when the Iraqi dudes are speaking arabic.

Mike what codecs do you recomend? I have Sharky's and Coreavc installed.

Also I ripped Avatar at a friends house and subtiitles worked, did it at home and no subtitles.

The Shark007 codecs default to using DirectVobSub for subtitles.
For pgs subs (from blu-ray sources) you need to selet FFDshow for subtitles on the Config TAB of the Settings Application.

I'm pretty sure you add the idx file. It's whatever files that shows up as one of the possibilities when adding a track to the mkv, in mkvmerge. Once you add the subtitle track, you have to tell mkvmerge that you want it forced, else they won't pop up automatically. I don't remember how to do this but I think it involves right-clicking on the subtitle, in mkvmerge, and doing something from there. Either that, or it's one of the options on the first tab of mkvmerge. Either way, telling mkvmerge that that subtitle track should be played all the time is in there somewhere. That's how I do it. Also, when I run it through bdsup2sub, I only save the forced subs.

What are you using for playback? I would recommend MPC HC. Unless things have been fixed you lose hardware acceleration if you are using WMC. Plus you could uninstall CoreAVC and Shark codecs if you use MPC HC. You would need AnyDVD HD, ffdshow if you want to bitstream, and TMT2 for DTSHD decode. Within MPC you could simply turn on Auto Load Subtitles under the options playback tab. This to me has been the best method to get them to work all the time and keep hardware acceleration since I don't have a super high powered machine. Dbone1026 blog is great for all this info. Go here http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010...media-browser/ . This what I would recommend.
