Marantz AV7005 - Page 302

Let me clarify what I need help with. On the Marantz 7005 I choose source Net/USB then I go to Media Server, then I go to my PC then I can choose from three folders, music, pics, documents. . Within these folders are many other folders and I want to edit them. I guess what I'm asking is how do I get music in and out of media server.

Anyone have advice on tracking down a new or dealer demo AV7005 (from an authorized dealer w/warranty)? I suppose the new or like new w/warranty will run out eventually, but I'm hoping to track down a few options. Appreciated.

Isn't this a DLNA issue? The AV7005 only sees what it is allowed to by the DLNA standards which is limited to the folders you note. So, on the PC you would have to manually edit what you see in those folders and add/remove/rename things the way you want. Unfortunately, all that data MUST be in the music folder for DLNA to see it. Regardless, you'll probably want to check out how to manage data using DLNA instead of ask here.

I'd start at the Marantz website in the Dealer Locator page: http://us.marantz.com/us/Dealer/Pages/DealerListing.aspx

Crutchfield is very good to deal with and they are an authorized dealer.

Appreciated. I'm trying to find a reasonable deal on a new unit. If MSRP was $1600 back in 2010 then I'd have expected to find a 15% discount (or $1360). So now that the 7005 is replaced PLUS there is a flagship out there, I'd expect to pay under $1,000. I didn't think $950 shipped was unreasonable, but no luck just yet.

I already dropped Marantz's an email about the DLNA issue. That was a couple days ago, still waiting to hear from them. I remember when I first set up my media server on av7005 there was a point where I told it what folders to display, just wish I could remember how I did that. I guess this doesn't have anything to do with marantz and more to do with me learning how to use my computer. Time to search other forums for more help on this issue. Thanks everybody

Think I am gonna pull the trigger on a 7005 from Accessories For Less. It's a factory refurb that comes with a 1 year warranty. I am purchasing an additional 2 years of Marantz warranty coverage for an additional $52 or somthing like that. So basically an almost new one for $899 plus $52 for the warranty. I hope I get a good one.

Well I've been having many days of fun exploring my new av7005 and everything is great except one thing. When I turn the volume up or down it displays the volume twice on the TV. Its so annoying there are two volume displays right on top of each other. The box in the foreground is a Relative display and then theres a box right on top of that one which is a Absolute display. This is so annoying because when I change the volume I see two black/grey boxes one on top the other. I wish there was a way around this. other than that I have no complaints.
Ok I just found out how to get rid of one of the boxes. Setup - GUI - Master Volume - Off Now I'm left with just one box on the TV and its in Absolute. If I can only find a way to change it to Relative. I can change the display on the Receiver back and forth from Absolute and Relative no problem but what is being displayed on my TV is what I'm talking about.
This "double volume" display is caused by the HDMI-CEC feature (eg. VierraLink, BraviaSync, Anynet+, etc.) on your TV being set to ON, so turn it OFF.
I've read pretty much every single post in this thread and no other user has ever complained about this oddity.

I suspect the secondary OSD (on screen display) is coming from some other device, not the AV7005. It is unfortunate but sometimes the remote control commands of one device accidentally trigger another.

The display which is on top, in the foreground, would be from a device which is downstream in the video signal path.. Tell us what all your devices are and maybe we can figure out a work around.

EDIT: OOPs I see we have an answer!

well i'm thinking about this receiver. Just entered into home audio/home theater in August. Bought 50 inch Panasonic st model plasma with an Onkyo tx-nr609 receiver. Just recently ditched the stock Onkyo speakers for some definitive technology bp 8060-at super towers, 8040 center channel, 8040 surrounds, Pro Monitor 1000's (front high), and an Hsu VTF-15H subwoofer. Now the weak link is my receiver. This one isn't terrible by any means. Mainly it only has audyssey 2eq and doesn't eq the sub. Anyway i'm looking at either the 7005 or the 6007. Also probably get the 5005 or 5007 universal disc player. Any major differences with the newest models?

Make sure you buy the right piece -- for example, the AV7005 is a pre/pro, not a receiver (so you need a separate amp). The SR7005 is the corresponding model line receiver (all-in-one). Your speakers look like they are pretty easy to power, so you could go with a receiver as long as it has a decent set of internal amps. I assume the SR7005, though a slightly older model, would give you more power that the 6000 series, but make sure that it has enough channels (as you have the front high speakers). You also might be able to get a Denon or Pioneer Elite receiver cheaper that both can power your speakers and has the best Audyssey package, particularly with so many subwoofer-related units to coordinate (I believe those towers have built in subs). Denon AVR-A100, perhaps? Pioneer Elite SC-65?

yes the sr7005. I can get one fro 950 not the original price. It does have 125 watts per channel as opposed to 110 on the 6007. Not much audible difference I think though. I could even do the 5007 at 100 watts per channel. I was looking at Denon as well. I like the specs and all on Pioneer. The sc-65 I was even looking at but the more I read on these forums the more I come to believe (or brainwashed not sure yet) that it's all about audyssey. And Pioneer has their own eq system but it doesn't eq the subwoofer. (again logic tells me I can trust my ears but I keep hearing that audysset eq-ing the sub is critical)

I'm in need of a quick video processing primer. What does the AV7005's Anchor Bay 10-bit Video Processor/Scaler do as it pertains to inputs from a blu-ray player playing 1080P content or inputs from a cable box playing 1080i content?

Unless I turn the TV on, the cable box (motorola DCX-3400) won't sync with the 7005.
The cable box blinks "DUI" and the "FL and FR" lights on the 7005 display blink, but I don't get any sound.

I did update the firmware last week (BTW...where is the firmware version info stored?) and the system worked fine.
I could turn on the cable box and the AV7005 and listen to music, without turning th TV on!

But, my happiness was short lived, yesterday the same thing started happening again, no sound unless I turn the TV on.

Once the signal is locked in, I can turn off the TV and the sound continues...

I've tried the using the HDMI connection from the cable box and the optical out, with the same results.

Anyone seen this before? Is there a solution?

Thank you.

I was able to determine the cause of my problem. The 7005 is having HDMI issues with my Sharp TV. I have the TV's "Aquos Link" turned off, yet the 7004 will has trouble syncing to audio signal from my cable box (and maganvox DVD recorder),
if the TV is not on. My OPPO 93 doesn't have this problem.

My work around is to switch to HDMI 2 (which isn't connected to anything) when I want to listen to cable music. Other than that the 7005 has worked fine, it's quiet (no hum) and provides great sound.

I do wish it had a display dimmer....

Oh and one other question...Is there any way to display what version of firmware is installed?

Thanks!

Hey guys. Like all the rest, my Pandora was broken but all the other network options worked fine. I applied the update a while back but hadn't tried the Pandora since the update. Tonight when I tried it, I get nothing onscreen for Pandora, the internet radio or any of the other network options like Napster etc. If I select the NET/USB option on the remote I don't get that menu either. All the other onscreen functions, menus etc work fine. I checked and it is getting on my network as I can see it from my laptop and I can access the AV7005's webpage. I also had it check for a software update and it said I was up to date/none were available so I assume that means it actually got to the internet.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dennis

Super. Thanks. I just received the AV7005, which is my first pre/pro, and wondered about the firmware version.

Quick follow up: I won't be networking my AV7005, so how do I update the firmware? I can easily move it to where my router is and connect it with ethernet, but will I need it to be connected to a tv? Will I be able to access it on my computer monitor somehow?

Here is an update. I tried the web interface last night and I can see all the Net/USB options including Pandora and run it from the web interface, but still nothing on the screen. I called Marantz today and they said theirs is working fine with the new firmware and told me to reset the unit and see if that fixes it. I will try that tonight.

Sounds like the display you are looking at is generated by your TV. If you have the TV's HDMI control "on" this will happen.
If you turn the control off, you can then use the 7005 to display the "relative" volume.

Firmware updates are pretty rare and when they do occur they are usually in relation to some aspect of the Net/web connection communication protocols for Pandora, etc., so if those things are things you don't use in the first place, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Firmware updates can be accomplished with only the front panel display, however it is not easy without a TV display. If you absolutely have to do it this way , I'd suggest learning the pattern of how the front panel display is a tiny subset of the full on-screen-display [OSD], and how to navigate through it, category to category [menu options to sub-menu options] while having access to both, first.

I just bought an extra long cat 5 cable, left my 7005 where it was, and temporarily connected it to my router.
Ok. Appreciated.

I'll check which firmware version I'm on and then maybe one of you can let me know if I should bother borrowing a long Cat-5. I'll only be using the pre/pro for a 2.1 system with two inputs (Blu-ray and cable box) plus the ARC for Netflix from my VT50 plasma. My audio system (for music) is completely separate, so I won't be using the pre/pro for Pandora, etc.
How can I determine the Codec being processed when viewing Netflix (TV as ARC)?
In most cases, the HDMI(ARC) connection can only pass PCM stereo 2.0.

But is there a way to pull up the AV7005 display which shows the incoming Codec when using the HDMI(ARC)? I can do that when using my cable box ("Dolby Digital") and my Blu-ray (bitstream "DTS Master", etc).

If the HDMI(ARC) does not use the best audio provided by Netflix then I'll simply access Netflix from my Blu-ray player.

Appreciate any advice!
Yes. You have to go to the menu, and then there's a way to look at the current signal for the input you're using. Maybe someone with access to their AV7005 can detail the exact menu selections, but it can be done. smile.gif
