Marantz AV7005 - Page 308

I bought a slightly used AV7005 to try in my 2-channel system a few months ago, where it was used with a McIntosh MC302 amp. I was impressed with the features and sound quality and the AV7005, but I recently stumbled across a good deal on a Marantz's SC-11S1 preamp that I couldn't resist. To my ears, the SC-11S1 sounds a little more "transparent" in my 2-channel system, and of course, it has superb subjective build quality and looks, which doesn't hurt. I've been trying to decide if I should just sell the AV-7005 or use it as intended in my HT system, which currently uses a Denon AVR-2113CI receiver. Speakers in my HT system are a bit a of hodgepodge, but my main L-R speakers are nice tower speakers from Clearwave Loudspeaker Design using Seas Excel midbass drivers and Scanspeaker Illuminator tweeters. These speakers are also castoffs from my 2-channel system, and I'm sure a receiver is not doing them justice. For those of you in the know, how do you think an AV7005/power amp combo would stack up versus the AVR-2113CI? I don't have a MC power amp lying around, so I'd have to buy one. I've been considering the Parasound A52, Wyred MMC-5, or Marantz's own MM7055. I realize Emotiva's XPA-5 is the unquestionable best buy out there for a MC power amp, but I don't really have the space for a 75 lb, 19" deep amp in my HT system. The MMC-5 is appealing. (I've used Bel Canto ICE-power in my 2-channel system previously.) However, I would prefer something a bit less expensive. Any other amp sugestions? Thanks in advance.

Im trying to get my Pioneer 151 so I can watch Comcast Cable and play my Xbox 360 via split screen. Ive had it work in the past but for the life of me cant seem to figure out how to do it anymore. I have the AV7005 but do not recall if I every did anything on it to get the split screen functioning correctly on the TV (setup wise). Anyone else have a setup similar to what I am trying to accomplish?
^When you say "Comcast Cable" do you mean an external cable box? Or do you only watch unscrambled content, therefore not needing a cable box, and send the cable wire straight to the TV so as to use its internal tuner?
Cable box, but I think your question just answered my question. Did not have a cable box before so was plugged directly from the wall to TV via Coax cable. Is there a work around where I could set it up to view cable box content and play my Xbox via split screen?
No, sorry, your TV is incapable of providing PIP or Picture by Picture from two external sources.

Thank you sir.

Anybody know what's in the latest firmware update?

Mine just updated tonight.

Hi guys!

Is there any way to activate Subwoofer with CD-play, when source is connected through HDMI imput? It's a big-big issue to me, because Sub is working only with 5.1 sources (like Blu-ray, SACD), but not with CD's.....
^Incoming stereo 2 ch signals on HDMI should provide sub out in "stereo" surround mode unless you have invoked "Direct" or "Pure Direct". Could that be the problem?

No, the mode, displaying on processor is "DTS surround" (I select "auto"). Not direct or pure direct. That is the question...
I' ve tried 2 differend sources - HTPC connected through HDMI and CD-player, connected through optical - Sub is sleeping in any scenario((((

BOOMbastiK,

Have you set all of your speakers to be "Small"? That actually means "enable bass management" and shouldn't be taken as disparaging your speakers. When speakers are set as "Large", their low frequencies don't get redirected to the subwoofer.

Many many thanks! smile.gif

Haven't thought about it! Of course, my Front have been set to Large. rolleyes.gif

I haven’t posted a lot, just been reading threads and just applying what I have learned!

Got my system about a year ago. Paired up the Marantz 7005 with the Marantz 7055, towers are Klipsch RF7ii, centre rc64ii, surrounds rs62ii, 5.1 system with 2 1000 watt subs Bic PL200, Premier PA-150. Fed from an external hard drive plugged into the USB port on the Marantz receiver, consistently seeking FLAC files for my system!

Enjoyed the system for the entire year, no misgivings! When I bought the gear, the music shop that I bought it from had no xlr cables so I ordered online. Got a great deal from amazon on some 5-25’ cables. A year later decided to change the TV stand to a more modern look, while doing so, decided to order some 3’ xlr’s to clear up the clutter from the rear. After initially installing, volume rose to between 5-10 db per song depending on the recording. Couldn’t quite tell about the quality of tone though. Having been convinced from this that cable length and quality matters, went online and ordered the monster 500 series of xlr’s . About 260 to Canada from Sweetwater USA.

Hooked everything up and did the Adudyssey room calibration to 6 different settings which I have found to give the best tone.

Wow! Wow and Wow! A new system! Every tone comes out crystal clear. The background sounds that I thought where only discernable from my old setup are no longer totally discernable. CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!!!!!!!

Learning Man! From pre po audio reciever to amp, shortest cables possible! Next, highest copper content out there. You can go for 3000 dlr ultralinks but I think that is overkill. The monster’s that I bought suffice for my ears. Speaking of which, I have read other audio forums that quite blatantly state that there is no sound differenece in xlr’s. I have good hearing, my brother not so much. My sister has the same hearing as I do, she hears all of the subtle nuances in a song.

Point I’m trying to make. “Don’t cheap out on lower end xlr’s when buying as 3+4g system. Spend you money and get quality stuff to accommodate your system! Do not be a fool like I was!

Since I have searched all over this thread and have found not a lot written about this subject I thought that it would be prudent to post my experience, even though it is off topic to both particulars , a little bit any way!

This applies to all systems that use xlr’s. I wish someone would have told me sooner. Hope this helps someone out!

Hi all.

I've searched this thread, and have two questions that don't seem to be answered here...

1. As well as my projector, I'm connecting the HDMI-1 (ARC) output to a Samsung 40 inch LCD TV, which has an inbuilt tuner.
What's the best way to have the TV's sound feed back to the Marantz and sent out to the system?
Currently, I can only hear TV sound through the TV's speakers. When I switch on the Marantz, the TV's sound cuts out, but doesn't go back to the Marantz.

2. I've moved into a place that will put my ADSL wi-fi router many rooms away from the Marantz, so ethernet connection to the modem will no longer possible.
Wi-fi is the only option, but is this possible?
Alternatively, there is another ADSL line behind the Marantz, but of course this won't be connected to the router.

Many thanks in advance.

Haven't searched through the threads so apologies if this is already covered. I just fired up my 7005 for the first time and i'm getting no audio. I get a whisper of audio if i crank the volume to maximum.

I have all the components connected via HDMI and am getting picture on my display. The amp is connected via XLR's. I know the amp is functioning as i tested it with my old receiver. Is there a initial setup that needs to occur before i can get audio?

^^
Unplug the unit for a few minutes and try again. You may also need to reset the microprocessor. Try the manual test tones to see if they come through loud and clear.

1. If the TV is HDMI 1.4 and also features ARC, then you can use ARC to return the TV's audio back to the AVR. You also have optical from the TV back to the AVR as well.

2. You can use another router that is capable of being used as a wireless bridge.

Gave that a shot didn't seem to help. The only speaker i could get tone from was the sub.
Is this a new unit or used? Try the reset as suggested.
Brand new from Magnolia.
Gave the reset another shot, no dice. All i can get is sound through the sub when its cranked near maximum.

Over the weekend I installed my new Parasound Halo A52 amplifier in my system. My old amp was a Marantz MM 9000 150x5. The difference was night and day. The Parasound amp is so much more detailed, more authority, and music was outstanding. Until I did a very dumbass thing last night. The AV7005 was calibrated for my old amp, so i decided to rerun Audyssey to take into account that I had a new amp in my system. Guess what ? The recalibration had a negative effect on the sound. I am totally anal. I did everything the same as I did to calibrate with my old amp. I used the same exact six locations. Put all the speakers as small, SPL metered, Dynamic EQ on. Now it sounds better with Audyssey flat or with Audyssey disabled for my left and rights. I should have just left the damn thing alone. Now what should I do ? Recalibrate with my old amp ?? And put the Halo back in ?? LOL FYI the sound is real thin and tinny. It sounds like a Yamaha or a Onkyo now.

Thank you!

(The TV is 1.3, so I'll use optical)

Rerun it again. Did you tweak the settings before you re-ran?
I always tweak after the completion of Audyssey. Set all spks to small, advanced crossover imlementation of individual speakers, LFE crossover 120, the bass on my Velodyne is never good enough after Audyssey, but that's an easy fix.Audyssey calibrates my sufwoofer to be 23 feet away. In fact its about 12 feet. LOL But I don't change it.
No tweaking. All i did was swap amps. I will just have to run it again tomorrow. Don't wanna get the wife bitchin tonight. LOL By the way, I would strongly urge anyone who has been considering owning a Halo amp to just go ahead and do it. I can't believe that a 125 watt amplifier could play with this much authority. So clean and clear too. I regularly listen at +4 or more. I'm a believer now .
Don't alter the settings for the sub distance !!!! The sub distance measured with these algorhytms includes not only the real distance from the seating to the sub, but also the delay in the special electronics used for the sub. This distance is measured, just like your ear is going to measure it, so leave it alone. I read a long article about this a while ago.

Did you check the Speaker A/B selector?
