Some people in the SR7005 thread ( the receiver version of this device) have mentioned having issues with this feature working as stated however. The feature in this unit, at least, is called "video select".

The provisions:

-All devices must be hooked up simultaneously with both HDMI and component so they can run parallel through the AV7005. It will not convert HDMI down to component for you, a very rare feature in receivers, if you didn't already know that. [Although outboard devices like the HDFury (2) will do that and may be a good option for you; you may want to look into that path, effectively giving your projector an HDMI in.]

-Only 4 sources maximum will work in this way since there are only 4 component ins, which will need to be assigned to the proper HDMI sources you use for sound.

-I don't think you'll get any video processing done; the unit will be messing around with the video of the HDMI signal it sees. The unit will be acting as a component switcher only ("pass through") with no scaling, resolution changing, video adjustments, etc.

-You may need to select "video conversion off" for this to work.

That's my read but don't hold me to it.

Another possible work around if the alternative video select is messed up as others suggest in the SR7005 thread (but a firmware fix may very well come along, but when?) is to use the zone 2 component out as your actual main room video feed. Again, parallel component wiring would be necessary since there is no down conversion from HDMI.

Thanks for the info zillch. That's good news. I will play around with all ot the settings once the unit arrives next week. I could always pick up a component switcher as well, I suppose. I'm hopeful I wont need anything else though.

Is there a specific setting I need to set? I set the ps3 and HD-DVD to bitstream... Could it be a cable issue?

It depends on the source player setup, not the processor setup. I don't know if any HD-DVD players supported bitstream output of TrueHD and DTS-HD. Original PS3's also did not support bitstream output - only the slim model can provide bitstream output. With HD-DVD players and the original (fat) PS3, the player decodes the audio and provides multichannel PCM output.

Depends on the HDDVD player. XA2 and A35 both bitstreamed.

Toshiba EP35 (European) certainly does, I think it is the same as the US A35

For anyone with this unit in an audio rack, how much heat does it generate after a few hours of decent use? I'm deciding between this and an Anthem AVR as a prepro, and this unit unfortunately is over an 1" more in height. Which may mean I'll have 1" MAX above this unit in my Salamander rack. So I'm wondering how hot this unit gets and how much air it needs to breath.

Harmony Remote fully programmed now, phew...

The only command I cannot get to work either by RF or IR is the HDMI switch/toggle. The remote accepts the command as learnt but it does not actually toggle the HDMI outputs when pressed. Has anyone got this command working on a Harmony yet?
Alpha10 -

How did you program your Harmony remote?

Did you have to resort to the "Learn" mode for each command?

Have been waiting for Harmony to finally have the AV7005 in its data bank.

Thanks.

I have the SR 7005 and man, what a PAIN it was to get the Harmony to work, lots of learning on that remote, what a terrible piece of software that Harmony remote uses!

Thanks.

I based mine on the AV8003, most of the commands were the same and then just used 'learn' mode for the rest. Didn't take long.

Only the HDMI switch is not working..

Alpha10, thanks for the quick response.

Just received the following from Harmony concerning when the company was going to have the AV7005 commands included in the data base -

"I would like to inform you that the database is comprised of commands learned by other users with the same devices. Once the commands become consistent, they will automatically appear within the setup. Also, when the manufacturer contacts us to provide us with hex codes. Our next level of support is then able to add these commands to our database."

I think I'll wait a bit longer - if I can!

Yes, in fact if you would be so kind, would you drive it until it breaks just so we all know where that point is, thanks in advance

Love those Swifter duster. Use one every weekend to dust off my toys. Also wipe my LCD down every weekend with PureAV solution.

Please, lets us know what you like more, and why, the differences, etc.

Your feedback is important!

Both units run cool compared to other equipment I have owned recently. The Denon 4810 I just sold ran much hotter then the Marantz equipment.

I'm sure she will. Hopefully she does not visit AVS very often. I love my wife dearly but she will not go within 10' of my system. To show how bad I am I just dusted all my components (under them as well) the other day.

That's good news. How much space do you have above the unit? Looks like about 2", but hard to tell if there is more under that lip. Is the unit fully closed behind or open to the back somehow?

Thx

The back is fully open. The amp has about 2 inches above it and after watching a movie at my normal listening levels, it was just warm to the touch...not hot by any means.

Well I was able to get FLAC files to play on the AV7005 and show up as FLAC in the display on the AV7005 by downloading the files to a USB flash drive and plugging it in the USB slot in front. I selected the USB and it played them with no problems. I did not see the cover art though but still working on that. I want to try a NAS drive and see what that will do.

I can also play them from my PC but it shows up as MP3 320Kbps instead of FLAC.

Otherwise pretty happy with the unit.

My bluray player has a USB jack for doing that sort of thing but I was dismayed to discover that it can only take small cards and not large capacity hard drives. Does anyone know if there is such a limit on the AV7005's USB port?

I want to purchase the AV7005 but I have some reservations regarding the lack of DSD playback. Can this be clarified for me by someone please? I have SACD's and DVD-Audio discs that I enjoy greatly in multichannel playback. What limitations does lack of DSD support mean? Can SACD not be played back via HDMI or is it just played back via PCM but at lesser quality then a unit that would support DSD? I planon buying the new Oppo 93 unit as the source. Many thanks to all who could clarify this...

I finally got my FLAC files working from my PC including the cover art and have it display on my TV. It shows up as a FLAC File. It took all day including having to reset my processor in order to get it to work right. It sounds great an now I am really happy I bought this unit.

I am bushed and going to sleep. Yahoo

Well I happen to have two systems in my house both have an Oppo 83 player in the chain and one system has the Integra 9.8 that supports DSD and the Marantz that will play support SACD playback over HDMI but it must be converted to PCM.

I am not going to go into details or we will get two pages of debate over this subject but I found that I am not giving up a thing with the Marantz and SACD playback. I found no diminished sonics and actually because the Marantz is IMHO is a better unit over all then the Integra SACD's sound terrific.

If this is the reason you are holding back buying the AV7005 I would say it is a non issue and go for it..

Hmm, I thought the original PS3 could bitstream HD codecs over HDMI after it was updated... Wish i didn't update my ps3, probably could have gotten a good amount for it since it still had the support to install other OSs'

I have the Toshiba A35 and it seems it won't do it. I only tried the Dolby demo disc though. I'll have to look for that magical decoder button lol

Nope. Original PS3 cannot bitstream. The A35 can. Make sure audio is set to auto in the 7005, player to bitstream, and you are playing a disc that actually has HD audio.
