Onkyo HT-S6300 problem!

I am having a dilemma with my new HT-S6300 I bought and I am unsure to what is causing this problem.

I am running my PS3 via HDMI to the receiver and my receiver via HDMI to my TV. I noticed the video quality is messed up to say the least. It is not extremely drastic, but it is enough to be really annoying (considering what I just paid for it). Just to note the audio is perfectly fine and sounds amazing.

I don't ever remember this happening with my old setup so I tried connecting my PS3 directly to my TV via HDMI. And all the video problems were gone. So I am almost positive it is not an issue with my PS3 nor my TV nor the HDMI cables themselves. It is also worth noting the receiver has this same issue with my XBOX360's video.

It is hard to explain, but I have some pictures! Sorry my camera is also not the best quality either.

This picture shows the video for PS3 to Receiver to TV. It seems like the gradients are not displaying properly.

This is my PS3 to my TV directly. The colors are smoother and look nicer.

PS3 to Receiver to TV. This is a great example of what it does to video quality.

I tried changing almost every setting on my receiver and even resetting it. I have set all the options to let the HDMI pass through without being altered, but I believe the receiver is still doing something with the video. Something is going wrong when the HDMI is going through the receiver and sent to the TV considering the video is perfectly fine when running directly to my TV. I want the video quality to be as good as it is when directly connected to my TV. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the simple answer is the receiver can't transfer video very well then I guess that is better knowing then trying to find ways to fix it. It is a brand new set so there is little information out there about it I could read on. I wondering if this is a technical issue or just how the receiver is. I don't see how it can affect video that drastically.

Again thank you for any help. I tried contacting Onkyo via email and they told me to reset it and that didn't do a thing.

I figured it out!

Even Onkyo support nor the manual said anything about this. But rather I had to find it out by researching for new receivers in the Amazon review section.

But anyways, if you hold down VCR/DVR and the Return button it will bring up the option to turn off video processing on your receiver. I turned it off and boom. Everything is perfect. I was so worried and stressed out about it. Not only that but the receiver still upscales everything and I still have all the on-screen menus.

I'm posting this so maybe if people in the future have problems they have somewhere to look. =)

I just wish Onkyo support and the manual stated something about this. Even though I clearly stated my problem and question to them. It's ridiculous that they wouldn't.

Glad I saw this. I was planning on ordering a 9300 soon. I wonder it will have the same problem/solution? What specifically does it turn off for video processing though? I'd assume that upscaling would be part of video processing...

Actually, this made me so happy. Turning off the video processing, as I stated, makes the picture exactly as good as when I plug my PS3 directly into my TV. It completely fixed all the video issues 100%.

I heard that turning off video processing disables all the on screen menus, which was a sacrifice I was willing to make for the better video quality. But it didn't! I guess the newer Onkyo models made it so you can see them without the video processing.

It's weird. I came to the same conclusion that the receiver would no longer upscale non-HDMI sources, but it still did without video processing! My PS2 is upconverted as well as my Sega genesis lol.

I wouldn't have recommended this HTIB, but now that I have fixed it I recommend it more than anything. I am so happy with it. You won't be disappointed!

And I am interested as well if the 9300 has the same issue. I figured out my problem because so many other people had stated they had the same problem as me with Onkyo receivers. No where in the manual or did customer support tell me off this "hidden" setting. Hope this helps. Let me know if you get it

Nice catch! I had the same problem and this thread resolved my issue. However, I did lose the OSD (not the actual setup menu, but the audio settings menu). Any ideas on how I can get the OSD to work as well with video processing turned off? Thanks!

God bless the apocalypse!!!!

Onkyo HT-S6300 PS3 resolution problem. Onkyo S6300 PS3.

Onkyo HT-S6300 video problem. Onkyo S6300 video. Onkyo S6300 resolution.

Onkyo HT-S6300 game problem. Onkyo S6300 game resolution.

The preceding is to hopefully help Google guide other folks with the same issue to this thread.

What a MADDENING problem this was, and I NEVER would have found the solution in the manual. The fact Onkyo CS doesn't know about this is...well, beyond retarded - I can't help but wonder how many of these units were returned as faulty as a result of this issue? I will tell you this, I was on the verge of packing this thing back up and not caring if the door hit it in the ass on its way out. My personal thanks for saving me a lot of trouble.
