Universal remote for elderly parent.

Hi All,

I new here and I am hoping that someone here can provide me with a solution. I have an elderly parent that recently moved and now has Charter Cable which came with a URI model UR4U-MDVR-CHD2 remote control. Now, no doubt this remote is probably a fine remote but with the number of keys and the size of the keys, it presents unimaginable problems to a person that is paralyzed on one side of their body. One of the problems is the favorite channels all require three digit input, and by the time the first two are input the box has already reacted, so the third digit becomes the channel the box switches to. She just cannot input the numbers quick enough!

So I have two questions;

Is there a remote with fewer and maybe larger buttons that can do the same job?
Is there a remote that can be programed with a few "favorite channels", yet still function as usual?

Oh BTW, the TV is an older Motorola VCR/DVD combo unit and she does use those functions as well. I really need some help on this because I'm 1200 miles away and I get calls at least four times a week to try and walk her through the proper usage of the remote.

Thank you,
PB

First welcome to the forum. I think this remote is about as easy as it gets and does just about everything you need at a really good price. Check it out and see what you think.http://ads.x10.com/?bGlyMzJhaW50LmRhd=RND|INTHOME:

Thank you for your quick reply. I went to the site you suggested and it looks like an interesting solution. I tried to find more info on that remote but I drew a blank. Has anyone purchased one and tried it out? Any info would be appreciated.

Not sure how you tried, but Google on IR34A and you'll get lots of info.

I've never tried one, but you might check out the Weemote SR. Very simple layout with 5 dedicated favorite channel buttons. It's less than $25 MSRP, so might be worth a try even if it doesn't work out.

Hope this helps,
