WMC Audio

Ok, first I'm running windows 7 64 bit with 4 gig of ram. Trying to get wmc to work properly with my DVD rips. I had WMC all set up the way I wanted with media browser and Media Center Master using sharks codec pack. I start it up one day and no audio from any file. I play a file from VLC...plays fine. So I update sharks codec pack and uninstall the old one....same issue. I also have certain titles that will just stop playing after about a minute and go back to the info screen. I attribute these to a bad rip? Doesn't make much sense cause my PS3 Media Server plays everything beautifully. I was going to make this PC an HTPC, but it just seems too buggy and random to be a stable movie platform.

If you are playing DVDs, there's no need to install any codec packs. Windows 7 will play DVDs just fine in MCE + MediaBrowser.

Did you install both the 32 bit and 64 bit shark007 packs in accordance with the instructions?

Yes I did. I've been thinking of going back to 32 bit. I'll try a reinstall in a bit.

reinstalled sharks codec pack. No dice. mkv files play fine, but DVD rips have no sound. Dvd rips also stop within a minute or two. I am stumped. Tried updating drivers etc. No idea whats going on.

Do they play with sound in windows media player (the 64bit version)?

I would suggest disabling the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP TAB.

keep in mind that on x64 systems you need to use the x64 settings application to affect Media Center. Most other players are 32bit and are controlled using the 32bit settings application.

Thanks shark, I'll try that. To answer a few questions. It's only certain rips that don't play. I've tried several that work well. Certain titles have no audio and stop after a few moments. VLC media player plays those titles flawlessly, as does PS3 media server. WMC and WMP do not.

No go on disabling microsoft audio encoder on the swap tab. Another thing I thought of is these movies are on a one terabyte drive that's mostly full. I have about 29 gig left. I've heard of drives getting full and stuttering the movies. The problem movies I have show artifacts and such when they start. But then again, VLC and PS3 media server play them fine.
