Which to buy? Please help!: TC-P54G25 vs. TC-P58S2 or LG 60PK550

I would be so happy if Panny made a TC-P58G25, geez!!! but they don't, so I am stuck picking one of these sets...

P54G25
Pros: Best AR filter (by far), 2nd best PQ
Con: Very small TV for distance

60PK550
Pros: Best PQ, Largest
Con: No AR filter at all

58S2
Pros: 2nd best Size, 2nd best AR filter
Con: PQ

Ok so this is going into the basement with windows on the two sides but from what i can see sunlight does not come directly into the room very often. There are two overhead lights that will sit directly behind the set, on center, one about 10ft away and another about 20ft. I will be sitting 12-14 feet away from the TV.

I am not going to have the tv professionally calibrated, but I would be willing to change some settings based on online resource.

Help me pick which one YOU would buy, and why.

The Panny G25. It has the THX mode, which is almost perfect out of the box, a better panel, and better anti-glare coating. The 54" will be perfectly acceptable for the seating distance. And..... go to www.amazon.com and purchase a calibration disc in order to tweak the Panny perfectly for your environment.

So I am going to also throw in the P58V10. I can get this for the same price as the other Panasonics and the PQ and AR filters are better (I think) that the S2's but not as good as the G25 - so it actually makes my decision harder!!!

Thoughts?

As a 60PK550 owner I'd say get it. A local dealer runs them on sale regularly, watch for a good price.

You answered your own question: Largest & Best PQ = one to get.
60PK550

For your set up get the 60PK550

Wait, the pk950 doesn't even have better pq than the g25. Are people taking crazy pills around here?

I'd go for the LG, size does matter. You can get it for 1400 shipped online right now and that is a GREAT price for a 60" plasma with it's PQ.

I am surprised about how much teh LG is getting recommended. I thought it would surely come in last. This TV will be in a basement with 4 windows so I guess the Glare freaks me out a bit. I would have thought more peopel would have recommended the 58V10 or the 58S2.

Also, does anyone know if a 58G25 will ever come out? It seems to be that that would be the perfect TV, large in charge, great PQ, and a kick ass AR filter, and lastly, no insane upcharge for 3D that no one really is ever going to use!

The 60PK550 is $1,400 shipped, no other 58"+ set comes close to that price. You simply can't buy a better TV for the same money.

LOL thanks you just made my decision harder now I have to check this LG. I was debating between P54G25 and 58S2 as well but leaning towards the G25 because of the THX mode. The LG might be too big though as the most I'll be away from it will be 12'.

I can vouch for the LG. Well, I have the LG 50PK550, same TV just 50" instead of 60".

I watched Avatar on it, wow. Just wow. Simply phenomenal. The 24p mode is brilliant as well. I've yet to watch any other movies on it, I'm currently breaking the TV in.

I just had the TV replaced because there was a smudge/smear on the underside of the panel. Other than that I am extremely happy with it.

For a grand this TV is fantastic. 2.5 years ago my 23" LCD was regular $1000, got it on sale for $600 or $700. 3.5 years ago my 19" LCD was regular $1000, on sale for $700 I think.

The 58S2 is less than $1400 and the 58V10 is only a little a "decent night out" more... I really don't care about the price as long as it's under $1600 which is where I would pause before I pulled the trigger.

What about the 60PK750, it has THX and is onsale for $1500 right now. Is THX mode worth it? Plus I think you get internet too, right? Got to be worth an extra $100, no?

I did a cardboard cutout of the 60 vs. the 58 and it's barely noticable. That P58S2 looks awefully good. Thats a pretty nice AR filter they have on that thing, no?

For those who own the LG, who can provide me some input from someone who has it in a room with lights! People clearly like the LG, but I just don't know if all of these people are watching the thing in a dark room or theatre. I will be watching mine in a very normal walk-out basement.

A good AR filter is very handy on a plasma...

I didn't realize the 58S2 was down to $1,400, seems like every time I blink prices drop some more.

So, let me throw in another contender. should I get a PN58C6500. Does this havea better AR filter than the 58S2? Is this even an option?
It's a good set, unsure on the filter.

Black levels on Samsungs will not be as good as Panny's, but the color prob will be. In the past, the color of Panny's have been fine for me, so I worry more about the blacks.

Get the LG.
Get the LG PK550 and buy some curtains.
None of the above. Get the 58vt25

Have you gone to the store and looked at any of these TVs? I know the store is a terrible place to make a decision but at this point its good to have a little hands on.

Each of those TVs have pros and cons. Chose your poison. Buy from somewhere that will let you return the TV. If you arent happy with the TV you bought return it for the next one on your list.

Purchased my 50PK550 a week ago. Have two overhead lights but no windows nor sunlight facing the nook the TV is in. With both overhead lights i can see reflections when there is dark content or a black screen, but only light or white colored objects in front of the TV get reflected. With light or medium colored video content, and both overhead lights on, i have to strain to see the reflection of these light colored objects in the room.

With one overhead light on these reflections are reduced even more. <-- i doubt any guests of mine would notice or criticize under these conditions.

I can easily watch TV 24/7 with both of my overhead lights on, but i am willing to concede that it's probably my personal preference, and that others may be bothered with this setup, but i know my wife has never noticed so i don't care to point it out to her . To me the PK550 has no more reflection overall than the CRT tube televisions i've owned in the past.

I know i posted fairly positive feedback on this whole reflection thing, maybe too positive, but remember my room is different from everyone else's, so their results may be entirely different.

I have read in this forum that certain lower-end samsung plasmas are even more reflective than the PK550, if true then it's food for thought imho.

if you have a medium bright room its not a problem. if you live on a beach front, with 8ft tall windows i probably say don't get an lg. but regardless. the picture is great.

I keep waivering. I am now down to the 60PK550 or the Panny 54G25. There is not much of a price difference between the 2. I thought the G25 had the best PQ of the lot that you mentioned, and not the PK550.

The 6 extra inches on the LG will stomp any PQ difference.

As an aside, being one who is trying to narrow down the same list, I'd love to see this post as a poll with the sets in question as options.
Took the plunge on the Panny 54 G25 after waffling for weeks between the PK950, PK550, and the G25. For my sanity, I think I may stop reading about problems and what not and hope that I dont notice half of the stuff that may have been discussed from the buzzing to floating blacks. As far as I am concerned, it cant be worse than my 4 yr LCD from Sammy.

Well you had it 2 months. What are your thoughts now? I'm also wanting a G series in the upper 50s to 60 range. May have to settle for the 54 bc the PQ is incredible.
