....if you buy Medal of Honor Limited Edition. Great news that BF3 is alive and kicking, but a bummer you gotta pay for it. I wonder if there will be other ways to get in on the beta?

Pre-order from Gamestop might include a Beta invite.

Well from Gamestop, perhaps it comes with a magical fish that makes your farts smell like roses too, since Gamestop is all about their customer satisfaction!

I'm still kicking around the idea of pre-ordering. I was in on the MOH Beta, but honestly didn't spend much time with it. I'm thinking that by the time it comes out, I'll be mostly done with BFBC2, so maybe I'll get it on this.

You'll get the invite if you pre-order MOH off steam also.

Hmm wonder if you can pre order for the code then cancel it? I thought MOH beta sucked hard.

You can, but you'd be out the deposit.

I'll be playing MOH for the SP, the multi is kinda crap IMO.

I enjoyed MOH:Af MP once I got use to it, looking forward to the game.

According to the 1up article..

Buying the limited edition of Medal Honor will afford access to the beta, which is slated to begin within twelve months of that game's release.

My guess from around the net is, the beta will start sometime next summer. They are talking about xmas 2011 but we all know that will be pushed back to spring/summer 2012.

Battlefield 3 already? Really? I heard about Vietnam recently, but it sounded like that was going to be DLC for BFBC2. Perhaps they'll just make that into BF3? I hope they stick with the Bad Company theme, but I don't know where they could go next. We're not far off from running modern combat games into the ground, as we did with WW2 games :P

Vietnam is just a dL pack for BC2. BF3 will be a completely new game.

Have you played the ORIGINAL Battlefield series? Not the bastardized console one, Bad Company, but the REAL one? BF2 with the Frostbite engine would be insane.

"Not the bastardized console one, Bad Company, but the REAL one?"

Take off those rose colored glasses, dude.

Why would they be "rose colored"? Wouldn't that tint everything red?

A few more BF3 details are being released, first this:

The first Battlefield 3 details could be hitting the Internet pretty soon if the GDC 2011 schedule is anything to go by.
The 2011 schedule contains a lecture from Kenny Magnusson, a senior lighting and VFX artist at EA DICE.
Below is a preview of the lecture;
"This session presents a detailed overview of the new lighting system implemented in DICEs Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables us to stretch the boundaries of lighting in BATTLEFIELD 3 with its highly dynamic, varied and destructible environments."
"BATTLEFIELD 3 goes beyond the lighting limitations found in our previous battlefield games, while avoiding costly and static prebaked lighting without compromising quality."
"We discuss the technical implementation of the art direction in BATTLEFIELD 3, the workflows we created for it as well as how all the individual lighting components fit together: deferred rendering, HDR, dynamic radiosity and particle lighting."
In order for this lecture to be successful you would expect at least a little of the game to be shown so the chances of seeing an official reveal before then isn't such a crazy idea.

And:

DICE says Battlefield 3 on PC won't be a sloppy port

In recent times, PC gamers have become increasingly fearful of developers not putting in that extra effort and optimization for PC versions of multiplatform games. This is especially true of the Battlefield franchise, which has become quite successful in the console market.
One of the developers at DICE posted a lengthy, revealing response on the EA forums, saying: "It's too early to talk BF3 specifics. But it's never too early for me to acknowledge that PC players have a fear that BF3 will be 'consolized.' PC gaming is alive and well, BFBC2 has proven that and no one at DICE or EA can argue with the numbers."
"Battlefield 3 needs an extra bit of special attention on the PC. I intend to give it that attention, tradition and our community demand it." The full post is worth reading for the behind-the-scenes talk, so check it out here.

Battlefield 3 debut to happen during GDC

Quote:

Electronic Arts has announced plans to reveal Battlefield 3 on Tuesday, March 1 during the 2011 Game Developers Conference.

Other games that will be put on display during the EA Partners Showcase include Crysis 2, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Alice Madness Returns, Shadows of the Damned, and Battlefield Play4Free.

For a game that's been talked about so frequently, we sure don't know much when it comes to Battlefield 3. It's about time we hear something of real substance. And hey, those other titles are perfectly swell, too.

I've been playing a lot of bc2 on xbox and it's been fun, but I still miss the real deal. Bf2 was the best online fps in gaming history IMO. I don't even have a running computer at the moment, the htpc I built for BF2 just had it's vid card crap out. I could fix it for 20 bucks and will but my iPad and xbox has been getting me by. Need a new computer, but waiting to build one specifically for when BF3 comes out in 2012 or so.

I remember the anticipation I had for BF2 after playing 42 and DC for years, and it didn't let down. I'm sure DICE realizes the only way to make bank in PC gaming anymore is to come out with a superior product, ie steam/hl2, WoW, etc. I still remember being floored by the first teaser gameplay vids they put out 6-7 years ago, and I'm confident BF3 will blow us away.

Can't wait to build that PC. I just hope $1000 will push it at max/ultra settings 1080p. I just saw today you can now get a 65" 1080p dlp for about $500-$600 nowadays. I bet 2012 will see me getting myself a 65" 1080p 3D LCD for <$500 for Xmas.

Oh and ftiw, I highly doubt well get a bf3 beta by summer as promised by EA.

They're stating a fall 2011 release, so I don't think its too unrealistic to expect a late summer/early fall beta.
