Help for Verizon FIOS newbie.

Thread Starter
I haven't seen any recent discussion on FIOStv, so I thought I would make a fresh topic.

Situation: I am moving in to a new apartment building that is prewired for Verizon Fios (in East Amherst, NY 14051). I have never operated FIOS, or seen FIOS picture.

Questions:
1). What are the most up to date set top boxes?
2). Do the channels offer surround sound? 7.1? Is there a list of which channels offer surround sound?
3). Will I encounter any problems when streaming video and audio through HDMI to my Pioneer VSX-21TXH?
4.) Can I plug a hard wired ethernet cable from the router in to an 8 port switch? Is there a brand that works best with the fios receiver?
4). Is there any other must know information?

Thanks for everyone's help. Verizon's customer support/tech support hasn't been much help.

1) Not sure
2) Yes most channels broadcasting in HD offer DD surround, 5.1 max.
3) You shouldn't.
4) Yes, any ethernet switch will work, just plug it into one of the switch ports on the supplied router/access point
5) Good thread full of info - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...highlight=fios
