That is too bad as there are many excellent A/V forums including AVS that are a wealth of information when needed.

Agreed, Bill. Here in the UK we have our own, similarly named, AVForum.co.uk and it is not bad at all. I generally prefer to post and read here though as the quality of contributions seems higher here most of the time. I guess the US has so many more people it's easier to attract a good calibre. Not that most on AVF aren't that anyway.

I got my new SC5508 this morning. Got it out of the box but it will need to sit on the floor until at least tomorrow when someone is coming over to help me lift things and put together the new stand. The remote is much nicer and more practical than the Emotiva metallic monster.
The fit and finish resemble my old Yamaha more than the UMC-1 which is toy-like in comparison.

They're a bit of a beast aren't they! I bet you can't wait for your friend to come over to help you install it!

There is a great war going on at the Emotiva Lounge to vanquish all those critical of the UMC-1. Its quite heated at the moment and I'm staying out of it.
That's what I would expect on a forum operated by a manufacturer.
Something never mentioned is the quality of the remote. While not up to the standards of some the included remote seems very usable. It is programmable which the Emo remote is not. The Emotiva is also made out of milled aluminum and weighs a great deal. It is really quite awful.
Yes it's a very useable remote. I've had universals in the past like the Harmony but ended up getting rid of them. These days I just use the Onkyo remote to control everything (apart from the sat box).
I have just two sources, my PC and a BD player (Sony 570). I don't have or want cable or satellite so the remote should handle everything. I have an AR remote sitting around but can't/don't know how to program it. I have an aversion to Harmony for some reason.

This avr has a nice remote. once you have set the avr up on the Internet, you can setup the remote for your player and tv. I use the avr for espn and Skype (via my pc) , sacds (oppo 83) , music (squeezetouch ), and fios tv.
Yes it is a nice remote. It'll be my only one.

Well, its sitting on the floor. I cannot assemble the new rack myself or get my components into it. I may end up wiring it up temporarily on the floor in front of my old rack. What I really need is another audiophile to help me do what I cannot.

This is a bummer, Theresa.... sorry to hear it's still in its box. Was the person you'd arranged to help you with it not able to come over after all? I hope you get it sorted soon - it must be incredibly frustrating to see it sitting there doing nothing.

Kind Regards,

Keith

Its out of it's box but on the floor. The guy didn't show up or call. I'm calling him again today. I know he needs the money, he doesn't have enough to keep himself fed.

Greetings,

I am sorry to hear he didn't show. It would be great if there was a forum member nearby that could come and assist you with this.

Regards,

Thin, hungry assistants. They're the best kind Hope he shows up soon for you.

He's a friend of a friend and I don't want to take advantage of him so I pay him minimum wage. He's not able to do the plugging in etc. but isn't stupid just ignorant about such things like 99% of the population.
That's gotta be torture! I'd head right over and help if I was anywhere near you Ignore my previous comments about getting it online as my network turned out to be messed up. I got it online last night easily so everything's working great now.

How many here are bi-amping and having problems getting Audyssey set up because the channels do not sequentially test?

I used to biamp my 5007 (yes I know, but I had the cable anyway and what's to lose? Oh yes - on the 5007/8 half the power output because biamping puts the AVR into current-limiting mode, just as though you had engaged the 4 ohm setting - but that's another story ). I never had any issues with Audyssey not properly testing all the channels during calibration. Nor indeed of it finding the channels prior to running the sweeps. The 5007 of course has XT and not the XT32 you have, and this may make a difference.

Sorry this is a useless reply to you, Jeff. I just thought it may assist others because this issue has been raised in the past IIRC.

I know that you will have set the unit up properly and will have bi-amp mode set in the speaker setup and so on so why you might be experiencing this problem is a mystery to me. Almost as much as the mystery of why you would want to 'biamp' in the first place (unless you have just added some new speakers and some clever external, active crossovers and not mentioned it to us yet ).

Kind Regards,

Keith

Thanks, Keith. I saw one post a week or two ago and then one on the 80.3 thread a day ago. I forwarded the link to Chris and am trying to find the other member. I don't recall which thread it was on.

It's definitely been raised before somewhere. The fact I have seen it pulls me towards one of the two x007/x008 threads I hang out in. It won't be the Audyssey thread I guess or you would have seen it there too. I vaguely remember it being part of a discussion about biamping in general though so I may have been straying into usual territories, thread-wise. I'll do a search and see if anything comes up.

Kind Regards,

Keith

EDIT:

Jeff -there are a few people here complaining about the same or similar issue and mentioning biamping a lot:

http://ask.audyssey.com/entries/1434...matching-error

Note one of the comments:

"The Onkyo X007 (biamped) right front "speaker mismatch error" during audyssey setup is solved by firmware upgrade. Prior to firmware upgrade all speakers but the front speakers made the characteristic setup sounds with a high frequency click in the end. Prior to firmware upgrade, the click sound was not played by the front speakers - it was only the right one that was not detected after first round of the setup however. After firmware update also the front speakers made the high frequency click sound after which both were detected during subsequent rounds. I am now very satisfied with the result of the setup."

Thanks, Keith. Chris said he hadn't heard of the problem, and the Ask Audyssey link you found mentions bi-amping but is different.

I am bi-amping with a DHC-80.2. Audyssey Pro worked for me with no problems.

Thanks.

I have it almost entirely hooked up. It'll be sitting on the floor (on top of a box) until I get someone to put the new rack together and to transfer everything.

It'll sound just as good on the floor! Is it on a hard surface? They need good ventilation.

I need help setting up the 5508 to read the music and videos on computer. I just cannot get it to work. The internet connection works with internet radio, just not playing files on the network.
Got it working. Now just need a couple of adapters to hook up the amps.
