Skip the Oppo and get a digital streamer like the Dune player. No media to scratch and you can have a great jukebox interface

It doesn't play DVD-As or SACDs.

If you want to play the physical media, you need to keep your universal player. But SACD/DVD-A can be ripped, converted to lossless FLAC and served from storage. Dune/Popcorn Hour *can* play those and integrate them into the "jukebox" user interface.

Greetings,

The volume knob on my 5508 stopped working sometime in the last few days or so. I don't use it much and noticed yesterday that it no longer has any effect. Otherwise everything else is working as usual.

I tried unplugging the unit overnight to no avail. I would prefer not to reset the processor and hope that this isn't the start of future problems.

Thoughts?

Regards,

Has your unit been serviced for the front panel cable/connector bug?

Your unit will probably go to the East Syracuse United Radio service center. Contact Onkyo tech support to verify location, then contact that location with the serial number for an RMA. Mine took 2 weeks turnaround. Don't wait. Do it now. Further symptoms waiting down the road are random input switching, random listening mode switching and random volume changes.

I had a Onkyo A/V receiver a couple years ago and could not stand the clicking noise (from a Relay) coming from within the receiver when doing simple Dish Network Sat. channel changing. Does this still happen on the 5008 or PR-SC5508 units?

Yes. But possibly a bit quieter. There are workarounds - setting the listening mode preferences to something that utilises all channels mitigates it. It happens mostly when switching from, say, 5.1 to 2ch and back (as happens with TV frequently) - if you have the listening mode for 2ch set to a DSP that uses all 5 channels, then it doesn't need to change modes so it doesn't click. The relays though will still click sometimes - that's how they are designed to work. It annoys some people much more than others.

Hi, I am considering buying a new pre-amp. Is the Onkyo still worth considering? if so, can someone please send me a private message with the contact information for an authorized dealer that will sell it at a good price?

Thanks!

It is indeed, can't help you with a dealer, as I live in Europe

No 5509 yet in the US for this series. There is an Integra 80.3

A lot of people seem to think that the 5509 will never be released in the USA, so waiting for it may be a long wait. OTOH, the 80.3 is available already. If you don't mind the looks and the silver knob
post #2446 of 2742
From what I've been told by dealers, it wont

I have an 80.3 and don't have a silver knob

Ah that's good! Have they finally dropped the silver knob? I hope so! It always gave a hard, brittle sheen to the upper treble range if you ask me

Someone mentioned that it's not available through Onkyo home electronics dealers because it's part of the Onkyo Pro line and therefore available through dealers that sell professional music gear.

I haven't tried that route but it might be worthwhile if someone is interested in purchasing one here in North America. Just a thought

Cheers,
SB

I'm not doubting you at all but the 80.3 on the Integra site shows it still has the silver volume knob and power button. Did you customize your 80.3 so that it doesn't have the standard silver knob? I still prefer the looks of the Onkyo with most of the buttons and Aux Video inputs hidden.

If you don't mind a refurb, try Accessories4less.

Ah - the Great Silver Knob debate FWIW, I'm with you on this one, Bill

I posted originally in the 80.3 and was recommended a 5508. I need to find a good dealer that will ship me a 5508 to Canada. I was originally looking a 5508 but I've been having a hard time sourcing one. If anyone can pm with a good source with a decent price would be much appreciated.

I don't think the 80.3 looks that bad.

Its strictly a matter of taste. I like the looks of my 5508 and detest the appearance of my UMC-1 with it's garish blue lighting while some others like it's appearance.
I like the look of the 5508 as well

No, it is also not a Onkyo Pro product either in the US. They also only have the 5508!

Onkyo/Integra seems determined to have any further models after the 5508/80.2 of pre-pro sales, to only go through their Integra dealer network. Which is why there is no 5509 model for sale here and only the 80.3 available in the US.
