Thx Larry - I'll wait then until its Audyssey features are confirmed before considering this unit further.

Spoke with Audyssey a few months ago regarding the 5507 and the tech I spoke with said they expected the 5508 to have be PRO Installer capable.

He said he had no idea why 885, 886, and 5508 were, or were slated to, and the 5507 did not. I could almost hear him shaking his head over the phone.

Maybe there needs to be an 8 in the model #. (JK)

Can anyone confirm that I can have subwoofer output in all modes, including stereo and direct modes? The manual is not very clear.

I checked last night; you do have sub output in stereo and direct mode. In the menu, you are given the choice of turning sub on or off for direct mode.

Thanks for the information.

To clarify, in the previous Onkyo models, assuming a subwoofer is in the system and a crossover has been selected for the mains, the Stereo listening mode always has bass management, and there are no options to turn it on or off via a special "Direct" menu item. The previous models also permit the user to enable Audyssey in Stereo mode. Am I correct that this is the same for this model and the difference is that now this new "Direct" feature of turning the subwoofer output On or Off applies to just Pure Audio or Direct listening modes?

Onkyo released new FIRMWARE for PR-SC5508. This new release resolve some issues also discussed in this thread.

The 10/27/2010 update addresses the following:
1. Stabilizes "Now Initializing" process to activate [NET/USB] mode in a busy network;
2. Improves the playback speed of particular VR (Variable Bit Rate) mp3 files.
3. Changes the timing of volume operation start. (thereby avoiding problems of no sound output after power is
turned on from Standby mode with network control enabled).

This has likely been covered but I haven't seen it.

Most all my 5507 and now 5508 customers have hardwired the unit to their dsl modems.

Now I have a client who can only go wireless.

Anyone using a wireless connection for the 5508?

If so, what wireless network adaptor are you using?

Even if there are no other options, when it comes to applying new firmware upgrades they should not use it for that, instead D/L any new firmware files and do it through USB. Wireless is not a method I would recommend for directly doing firmware updates.

Dlink DAP 1522 is a nice wireless bridge.

Yeah, I've had very good luck and good performance with quite a few of the D-Link wireless devices. Their DIR-655 has by far been the most reliable wireless router I have ever had. It's been good enough that after trying about 8 or 9 various other ones before it, that it has never given me any reason to look for something else.

Might want to try the WD Live Wire. Uses electrical outlets and is much better than wireless.

I have since emailed Onkyo suggesting that they correct the misleading information posted on their websites stating the PR-SC5508 is Installer-Ready.

Anyone gone from a decent receiver to the 5508? If so, how big of a jump in sound quality?

I'm wanting it for the ability to go balanced, and of course XT32. Maybe even Pro, if we're lucky.

Hi all I'm looking at the new pre-pro systems from ONKYO and INTEGRA can anyone tell me the difference ??
the ONKYO looks much better than the INTEGRA and I can't find any difference in the specs.

There is (almost) no difference. Same origin. Only the dealership differs.

I ordered my 5508 today. Should be here in a few days! Can't wait! 8)

Biggest problem is I sent my DCX2496 in to be serviced today, and that may take a few weeks. That is the crossover for my active LCRs, so there's not much pretty sound without it. I'm betting I'll still try it out, though..

There are small differences which may be big differences to some, depending on personal needs. The differences have been pasted on AVS many times, so I suggest you poke around with Search or Google.

i'm thinking about the 5508 also, can't find it available online?

Local store. We're not supposed to discuss prices here, but it was about 10% off from the price of most norwegian online shops, and this was over the counter. Can't argue with that!

I asked Chris over at Audyssey about this a couple of days ago during the weekend. He's usually pretty prompt with providing responses so I'm assuming he needs to confer with other Audyssey employees during the business week.

The attachment that he provides in the above posting showing the supported devices in version 3.4 doesn't list the 5508, but it does show the Integra DHC-80.2.

However, their website hasn't been updated yet to show that the Intgra 80.2 is installer-ready.

I have been negotiating with Onkyo/Integra about a review sample for a while now. They wanted to send the Onkyo SC5508 because it is from the regular retail line. I wanted the Integra 80.2 because it is definitely AudysseyPro compatible per their info. Well, just today, they agreed to send an SC5508 with the assurance that it was AudysseyPro compatible. Good news.

Quick question guys, I have a 875 Onkyo and a Denon 4308 which just went out on me. The Denon is in my theater room and the Onkyo in another room. One thing I noticed on the 875 was how slow it changed channels compared to the Denon. I don't know if this is the processing or what it was and was curious as to what kind of delay there is an switching TV channels with the 5508.

Also, any one have any idea if the video processing in this unit would be better than a VP50Pro as that's what I currently have in my theater room. Thanks guys.
