You have to have a HDMI 1.4 compatible receiver to handle 3D. You can use the same HDMI cables you have now, the compatible receiver is the key.
Your only other option for 3D in conjunction with audio via a receiver is run a standard HDMI directly to the TV and an optical cable to the receiver (unless you have one of the panasonic BD players that have dual HDMI outs). Doing this you'll lose the ability to the HD audio codecs.
What I did was buy the Sony BDP-S470 bluray player (3d compatible via firmware) and then a pioneer VSX-920-K. Works like a charm with cheap monoprice HDMI cables.
