I didn't see mention of it in the manual.
I think this means that you can have dual HDMI output with the main area being 5.1 or 7.1 and the television being 2 channel stereo. For the RX-V2065 from what I understand if you have dual HDMI out engaged the main zone would be 2 channel not 5.1 similar to the television speakers.

This contradicts what has been reported here numerous times where zone 2 is analog only. So is the Yamaha website wrong?
It's very misleading. They could be talking about "Party Mode", where the source playing in the main zone is downmixed to 2 channel and sent to other zones. It can be an HDMI source, but it's not independent of the main zone so it shouldn't really be called a "second zone". If you want to play something different in another zone then it has to be an analog source (with network and USB inputs counting as analog).

Is it wise to buy the A2000 for future proofing reasons or foolish to buy the A2000 when I don't and won't have all my 7.1 main room speakers and outdoor speakers anytime soon, possibly the next 6 months to a year.

Well, it's your call of course. You can add speakers at any time, but the nature of technology is that obsolescence is almost immediate. If you wait too long, you'll find that everything has changed. A year or two from now, HDMI may be replaced by some form of ethernet, or we may be seeing UHD (4320p), requiring a different standard (and a fatter pipe) altogether. Who knows?

OTOH, if you wait a year, the RX-A2000 will most likely be selling in the 3 digit price range.

I always struggle with this, and I find there's no easy answer, and at some point you just have to pull the trigger already.

I was wondering if anyone could provide further help on how well the V2.07 firmware update fixes the FM tuner problem. For example, if you have V2.07, does your Ax000 pick up your favorite stations that come in on your bedside clock radio, or the car radio? I had a pre-2.07 A1000, and it didn't. If the FM tuner problem really is fixed, I'll probably re-purchase an A1000 or an A2000. Thanks!

The A2000 (as compared to the A1000):

LCD display on the remote
much better video upscaling abilitys
more total power
extra zone output (3 zone vs 2 zone)

It's up to you, but how often would you want to buy an AVR receiver? If you get either model today from Newegg, free 32GB or 64GB iTouch.. you could always sell that if you don't need it and lower the cost a bit... the 32GB model retails for $300, the 64GB model for $400, they are not discounted very much. Also, Newegg has some deals on home theater speakers (polk Audio 5.1 setups) as well, check those out

Bought a A1000 for 747 no tax or ship charges from Electron..s Exp. . Google coupon codes for this vendor.

what is the receiver manager and what does it do? I looked for it in the rxa2000 manual and couldnt find it
post #1687 of 8515
I don't plan on using the Surround Back but I do plan on using zone 2 but I also like the idea of using Presence Speakers. Can the receiver be told to output Presence (and all that that implies) from the Surround Back outs?
I looked through the manual for keywords but honestly didn't know how to search for this.

There's a link to download it in this post. It's a Windows program to control the receiver from a PC over the network. There's some documentation in the download.

This is the second unit I have received and they both behave the same? Got to love Yamaha advertising 12v trigger that only outputs 1v! I am just hopping there is a way to configure the unit to output more than 1v.

It turns out that the cheap 1/8" mono cable from radio shack was the issue. When I pluged in an old stereo cable from an ipod i got 12.6v. So I replaced the cable with this one and everything is working. Does anyone know how many volts the amp outputs when set to low vs high(~12.6v) for the trigger? My screen is rated for 5-12v and elete stated that I may risk frying the controll board with 12.6v?

I'm wondering the same thing before I buy the RX-A1000. And is the 2.07 update all that is needed or do I have to get a "special" update sent from Yamaha just for the FM fix? And, if anyone knows, is AM reception average? I'd like to listen to "coast to coast" but maybe there's a way to find that through the net-tuner?

Does anyone know the correct code for the Motorola HD DVR remote control that Verizon has to control the Yamaha RX-A 3000?

Mine will turn the receiver off but won't turn it on.

I wonder if anyone has had a similar issue and knows the fix.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem (though I have ATT Uverse). Actually, now that I think about it, I have the *opposite* problem. Yamaha turns ON but not off.
I set up the Harmony 880 remote, and that works, but I prefer the ATT remote... eagerly awaiting a reply.
There must be a way to get the code that the Harmony spits out, but I haven't figured out how.

The Yamaha technician John informed me that Version 2.07 specifically addresses the FM tuner problem. My (continuing) question is "how well does 2.07 fix it?" Can the receiver now pick up moderate or weak stations, assuming it's attached to a reasonable antenna? I'm hoping someone who has 2.07 will try a few weak stations that come in on the other usual household radios, and let us know if the Ax000 can now pull them in.

Check over at the RX-V1065/2065 thread. Someone there got a firmware upgrade from Yamaha that supposedly fixes the FM reception problem on the RX-V1065/2065 and the RX-A1000/2000/3000. The poster there claims that it did work. Hope this helps.

Well today I pulled the trigger. I just purchased an A2000. Hope to have it by next week. My FM is fed down from my TV antenna on the roof. From there I will test the FM and patch the firmware. I hope to have an answer for those waiting between Christmas and New Years.

Just installed 2.07 on my RX-A1000 and it is like night and day. befor 2.07 I could'nt receve any FM even on my roof top antenna. It is 10000 time better after 2.07 I receve all the FM i get in my car and the clockradio in the bedroom. Hope that was what you needed.
Sure would be nice if Yamaha would give out that firmware via its website already. I'm sure a lot of people are dying to try it.
Can the people with the 2.07 on a A-3000 check if internet radio works after an hour or so of playing, or USB

thanks

It is much better... taking the receiver to mono will pull in even more...

The Aventage iPhone app was patched yesterday. They're finally getting close to a usable product! Typos have been fixed anyway, and the cursors now work -- so you can conceivably use this to navigate the on screen menus, in lieu of the clunky remote.

I have the 3000 Please someone tell me you can matrix the rear surround speakers when using DTS HD-MA in a 7.1 set-up.

Yes, PLIIx will give you 7.1 from any 5.1 track including DTS-HD MA. See page 64 of the 3000 manual under Extended Surround, and select PLIIx Movie instead of Auto.

But is it still true DTS-HD-MA with just the rears matrixed?...Like the Pioneer Elites do?

All receivers decode the bitstream to PCM first, before they can apply any processing (no choice there). But it's a lossless process in the case of DTS-HD MA. PLIIx preserves the front three channels (L/C/R) as-is and redistributes the two surround channels to four speakers. I'm sure it's exactly the same algorithm with Yamaha and Pioneer (it has to be, or they couldn't use the DTS and Dolby logos).

The only difference between the two receivers you mentioned might be with tracks using very high sampling rates (e.g. 192kHz), but those are very rare. At that sampling rate many receivers either downsample or don't allow certain types of processing (and it's often hard to tell from the manuals what the limitations really are).
So then would it be better to output in PCM on the blu-ray player? instead of bitstream? Just for this scenario?
Some models can only apply PLIIx if not also decoding DTS-HD, or can only do it at lower sampling rates, but those tend to be the models with a single DSP. The A3000 has two DSPs, one nominally for decoding and the other for post processing (e.g. PLIIx). So if there are limitations with the A3000 at high sampling rates it's likely the same whether you bitstream or send PCM.

If you check the manuals, for the A1000 (which only has one DSP) under "Selecting sound programs and sound decoders" (page 48), there's a note that says: "When you playback ... audio sources with a sampling frequency of higher than 96 kHz, the straight decoding mode is automatically selected". In the same section for the A3000 (page 55), there is no mention of such a restriction. You can't always believe the manuals, but if I were going to buy the A3000 I wouldn't be worrying about it. In fact I wouldn't really worry about anything higher than 96kHz at all.

Thanks to everyone who responded about the FM tuner problem. It is *extremely* helpful to hear other's opinions. It looks like I'll buy an A1000 again. My situation is that I bought one over this past Thanksgiving weekend, and tried for a week to get the FM tuner to work. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong! Finally I gave up and made the sad trip back to the store to return it, only to receive an e-mail the very next day from Yamaha telling me that they would snail-mail me the latest firmware upgrade (V2.07) on a CD that would fix the problem. Arg! What a mess! Right now I've got my Yamaha R-100 hooked back up. I bought that in 1985, and it still works, and has no trouble pulling in FM stations, which is what made me a Yamaha customer in the first place. Again, thanks for responding. And, if anyone has further comments on the V2.07 FM performance, I'm still listening!

Cant seem to get my music to stream from my new CPU (New HP touchsmart.win7) either right now...It did at one point but suddenly stopped...I thought some network hardware was the problem but I connected a laptop to the network and the A1000 recognizes it completely ....I have shared everything, changed everything I can...I believe the problem lies with the Norton Security I activated several weeks before I think it created some rule...however even when I turn the firewall off it still is not recognized...weird thing is when I view the devices on the system it shows up....PLEASE HELP

Slight mini-off topic, but dogone, your signature is blinding. Aquamarine on a blue-grey background is unreadable. Just thought you should know in case you actually wanted people to click your sig instead of be averse to even looking at it.
