Bestbuy in my area doesn't carry any 2000 or 3000 series.

I bought my at Atlas TV & Stereo - they have stores across Canada so you should be able to find one near you.

Is the phono input on the A-1000 a MM or MC input. The owners manual doesn't say.

Hey Birdii, if you're in the Toronto area, check out Kennedy Hi-Fi. I got my 3000 last week for $1350 + tax. Cheapest place I found so far. I believe the sales is over but you can bargin with them, I'm sure they'll do the same deal. Good luck.

and I have read about people getting the new 2.07 firmware update for better
radio reception. I am totally new to this whole home theater thing and really have very little knowledge about it all.
Is there somewhere that can give a step by step guide on how to get the new update?
Is it as easy as connecting an ethernet cable from my modem to the receiver?
I need some help

Thank you.

Hi everyone, I just got my rx-a2000 right before Christmas and I've been enjoying it, and struggling with it at the same time. I'm new to this forum and I'd appreciate some help. I'm using HDMI from my HD cable box (Comcast) and my up-converting DVD (no blu ray yet) and I'm confused about a couple of things. When using the DVD player, in order to get any audio from a DTS disc, I had to connect a digital coax cable & choose that audio signal & force it to be DTS instead of auto. Secondly, when using any source (Dolby Digital from cable or DD/DTS from DVD), I can't get the display screen to show "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" - I can only get "Standard" or "Straight." Does anyone know if I'm actually supposed to see what kind of signal is being received/played?

I've been through just about every menu screen multiple times and haven't found anything, nor in the manual. Maybe I'm still stuck on my previous AVR (Pioneer Elite vsx27 - which died on me) in which you selected the audio program you wanted and it didn't require having separate cables from the same source to get DTS vs. DD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...and, if I'm asking something that is answered in a FAQ somewhere, please point me that direction...

OH, one more thing...I found the link to firmware update 2.07 on these pages and that fixed both my internet radio problems (not connecting, even though I could use my laptop to access & control the unit), and my FM troubles (absolutely terrible reception - 1 local station out of 20 or so).

So, thanks for that!

Thanks in advance...

Kevin

For some reason Yamaha is making it hard to get the update. To get it point your browser to ftp://216.154.248.26

Then enter user name of yecrecvr and password Yamaha1

Select your receiver model and you will find few files in this directory including the 2.07 firmware and the step-by-step installation instructions in Word and PDF format.

You must use Mozilla Firefox in order to get to download site. Internet Explorer could not find site.

Ok quick question.
I have an A 2000....Upgraded from the Yamaha 995
I want to know if it is possible to have the receiver remember the sound profile for each input?
Example being if I hit button for AV1 (it has my Blu ray player connected to it) If hit net button to listen to music stored on my PC, the receiver stays on the on the sound porfile of the last input. I would like for it to switch to my prefered sound program based on input type.
Is it possible to have the receiver store this info so that when I hit net button it sets sound profile to PLII Music and the when go back to Blu Ray or TV watching it changes sound profile back to Movie Standard or Spectacle or whatever sound profile I was using for that setting?

Hi all,
I have an A2000 that I got around November and so far so good but I'm curious; for those of you who are routing your video via hdmi through the avr to the tv how are you setting your lip sync? Are most of you using auto or manual? I've been using manual on my dvd/vcr and my ps3 and it seems to be as close as I'm going to get it but with my cable (through a Tivo S3) it seems to vary from show to show, some being spot on and some way off. Does the auto function just set something and stick with it or would it change based on the signal coming in? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I thought auto worked by the TV telling the receiver what it's delay in video was. If the receiver adds to that, it would be for it's own VP.

I just updated to firmware v2.07. Somewhat improved. Problem is, the previous owner of the house ran all coax (11 all over the house/ 6 in the basement!!) back to the utility room with a couple of splitters. Dopey me, forgot to mark the coax for the A2000 when I ran network wiring to the room. It's a major pain to undo the wall plate behind a 61" DLP set to see which coax it is.

The signal I'm getting is just from the coax running from 1 end of the house to the other ~35ft). I had them all disconnected to try and eliminate and still had a signal. It found 11 FM stations (no HD) with auto tuning and I know there are a few HD stations in Grand Rapids, MI. I can only imagine what I'll get when it's connected to the rooftop antenna.

Thanks to all who responded related to my post. Looks like those who do not have DLP's have no problems, wonder about the Mits 8 series and 3D firmware update. I did find some info on problems with the 3DA-1 adapter but no solutions. Will search some more.

I am interested in your setup. Think I am doing the same thing with my A3000, tv is an 82837 if not mentioned. One HDMI out of the receiver to HDMI 1 on tv and the other HDMI out of the receiver to HDMI 2 on tv. HDMI 2 on tv is configured for 3d viewing. PS3 works fine in 3D for movies and games (no HD audio). The players I tested just end up with an actual side by side image or jumbled top bottom image with a message saying i do not have 3D compatable equipment when trying to play a 3D disk. Maybe I will try a different HDMI cable to the receiver, know it is a long shot and will not make a difference, but is the one that came with the Oppo. I am using Monoprice cables everywhere else and they work fine direct.

Does anyone need a new remote for these units, I was able to pick up a deal on the RX-Z7 at best buy, but they gave me the wrong remote... When I went back they couldn't find the right one.. So, I now have to order a new one... This remote is brand new and goes for $185 from Yamaha... I'm just trying to recoup some cash so I can order a new one for the RX-Z7...... Make me an offer

Yes our setup is very similar, I have the WD 73833 and have its HDMI 2 connected the Mits adaptor then on to second HDMI out from the RXA3000. I keep this input setup for 3d. When my RXA3000 first arrived I tested it with the DirectTV DVR before I did the firmware update to 2.05. When on a 3D channel from DirectTV I got a double image rather than the proper 3D image. I then downloaded the new firmware from Yamaha 2.05 and everything started working perfectly. One interesting thing that I did was to program my universal remote for two senarios each for the Bluray and DirectTV. One for regular video which selects HDMI 1 on the TV and a second for 3D programming which selects HDMI 2 on the TV. So if I am watching a regular channel and want to switch to 3D I only have to do one click on the Universal remote to switch tv inputs.

Hope this helps!!!

I would try and get Best Buy to adjust the price to make up for the missing remote, but you don't need to pay Yamaha prices. For example, this is much cheaper, and you can probably find other places selling them too.

I'm interested in this topic as well. My A1000 has great sound and video pass through. However, I have been concerned about occasional "lip-sync" issues from my Cisco 8640 DVR, PS3, and Sony BDP-S770. When they go out of sync, it's usually about 100-140ms and I can adjust either the players or A1000 to fix the problem. However, it seems an unnecessary hassle. So, I thought it had something to do with me having a 2D HDMI 1.3 projector and 3D HDMI 1.4 HDTV connected to the A1000 concurrently. Now I make sure to select either HDMI 1 or 2 independently and it seems to work - most of the time. It would be helpful to hear if others are having similar lip-sync issues

Can anyone comment how Yamaha's adaptive DRC compares with Audyssey's Dynamic Volume?

I really like the RX-A1000 receiver and am thinking of buying it for a small apartment setup so obviously these features are essential.

Can anyone who has used these features in the past elaborate or offer any feedback?

Thanks!

I to had the lip sync problem with the cisco so i just hooked optical to the audio 1 input.. I also have the lip sync problem with my sony s370 and had that problem with other blu-ray players so i know for sure its the rxa2000, but now that i only have the blu-ray hooked up to hdmi, the lip sync just stays adjusted to one setting.

Thanks, just so I'm clear exactly, would you recommend auto or manual and would that change based on the source being passed through or processed? Obviously I have to judge for myself but just curious, and do you know if the 'Auto' setting would vary from source to source and also within a source depending on content?

Do you also find that when watching television, the lip sync accuracy seems to vary from program to program and channel to channel? I'm also curious whether or not there are any test discs, for example those used for calibrating displays and audio, that also feature clips that help adjust lip sync.

What city/state are you in? The best price I could get from BB was $1500. I though $1550 from Abt was a deal until I looked here.

If your display doesn't support Auto lipsync then setting Auto on the receiver does nothing. And even in the best case when the display supports it, it's a fixed value and assumes the source sent out the audio and video in perfect sync. So it can't solve problems that you find sometimes on cable TV, where the source is not in perfect sync and varies from channel to channel. I stick with manual and tweak it for my Blu-ray player, and then just live with any variation that happens watching TV.

The funny thing about adjusting lipsync on older Yamahas is that the GUI took over the whole screen so you couldn't see the video that you were trying to sync up!! I don't know if they did it better on the A series, but if not you can use Receiver Manager to adjust lipsync without bringing up the GUI.

it only updated to version 2.05. I ran the update twice but it still came up with 2.05.
In the instructions it says that the update may take up to 15 minutes to complete, the update that I did only took about 15 seconds. Am I missing something?

Thanks again.

I updated Thurs night. If you do it via the internet it only goes to 2.05. You will have to download 2.07, unzip it onto a USB drive, and upgrade it that way.

I'm in PA, there's another store called ultimate electronis in this area that was selling for a really good deal with an additional 20% off, that was the bargaining chip. And with BB additional warranty for 4 yrs, my rxa2000 is warranted for 7 years, so i use it all the time and love it.

That's why running optical is much easier, the sound is still the same and no lyp sync problems what-so-ever on cable between channels.. The only thing is, you cant view the GUI, but i use the reciever manager for any adjustments on a laptop..

I'd rather have this reciever with no vid card in it. They could have put the extra money in other things

Check out the Option menu. You should be able to set a sound program for each input.
