Oh sorry it's through a friend of mine that does home theater installs and can get it at dealer cost. Not sure exactly how much, but I know it will be under $1k.

I want to setup my home theater with a 9.1 setup (Front L/R, Center, Front Presence L/R, Surround back L/R, Surround L/R)...

From what i've been reading in the user manual i have two options:

1) Use 7ch normal mode and the receiver will "Automatically select the presence speakers or surround back speakers to output sounds according to the selected sound program. When the sound program is changed, the speakers that output the sound are switched between the presence speakers and surround back speakers automatically"

Can someone clarify what this means? If i'm watching a movie will it use both the front presence and surround backs depending if sound is meant to output from these channels or does it make some determination on which to use and the unused set are completely off (how does it know?)

2) Use an external amplifier to power either my front L/R or my Front L/R presence speakers

Can someone recommend a good matching 2 channel amp to power the Front L/R presence speakers? I would be powering 2 Polk Audio 80FXLS In Ceiling speakers as my front presence speakers. I'm also wondering if I go this route am i better off looking at the more expensive Denon 4311

Good thing I stopped to try streaming this morning (day off). My A2000 was unable to play any of the files. I just discovered it does not play "Apple Lossless" encoded files. The only ones it will play from iTunes (need it for the iPods) is AAC, MP3 or WAV. Question: Which is better, AAC or WAV?

Fortunately, I am only 24 albums in out of 1300 to rip.

I went with the WAV format. Can't say why it is better - just able to read it in windows and in iTunes.

WAV is basically lossless -- so you can rip music directly from a CD with the exact same quality, but at the cost of disk space. AAC can give you smaller files at the cost of fidelity, but you can (usually) choose the ratio. If disk space is a concern, go with AAC, if not, go WAV.

Thanks. I think I'll just plow along and redo these 24 at another date. Space is NEVER an issue at HD prices.

so I had a few words of thought after messing with some settings...

Should I let the YPAO do it's thing during the speaker setup or should I interfere??? I know a lot of the sound setup basically comes down to user taste (in the long run) however i'm wondering if I could be cutting the life short on my unit if i'm putting to much stress.

The manual states to set your subs (i use 2) to about a third gain and set the crossover freq to MAX. - it's in 2 spots in the manual. So I tried out this approach.

I'm current using 4 towers (in my previous post on page 76) and large center.

All speakers are able to effectively produces LFE's so the receiver during the YPAO sets ALL speakers to LARGE.

After this I did a sound test and it did sound awesome.

Then I reset the speakers to all Small with the crossover at 80. Retested and it also sounded great... so i'm torn now between the two.

Not being an expert by any means on the stress this might be placing on my speakers it there a recommended approach to this?

I have smaller surrounds that do a great job but i'm basically using the towers for fun until I get an AMP for the correct 7.2 / Zone 2 or 9.2 final setup (still undecided)

It also appears that some of the manual setups use 3 channel amps? Anyone that has had experience with 9.2 setups - what would the correct AMP size be for this application on this receiver? (RX-A2000) i'm still looking for the right one.

Just my opinion, but if you feel the sound is great either way, then my suggestion is to leave the speakers set to small/80hz, and let the the sub(s) do the legwork. This will leave headroom for sudden movie explosions/ future speaker additions, and/or add shelf life to the AVR.

7ch normal is only with Surround Back, when using the ex. movie DSP like Sci-Fi or Adventure it will output from all channels.

I have mine set to 7ch+FPR
So i have my external amp outputting sound to the front presence speakers.
I have a denon avr 3805 as 2nd amp.

Yeah that's true for sure - One other option that i just noticed is to use the Extra Bass option that only is usable if you select at least some speakers = LARGE.

So in my case I just set the LF and RF to Large and clicked on the Extra Bass option to send LFE's to the subs and then to the 2 front large towers. Also sounds great... so many setup options... still messing. I really wish I could save all 3 patterns and easily switch between them so I could play a scene / change it quick / play another... Can't seem to save custom though... I'm thinking there should be a way to do it... I'll look into it.

Not sure but look into the SCENES option -- that may or may not allow you do do it.

Still on their website for $1400. Are they haggling that much? I'm not sure what I would use for leverage, sinc I can't even find an internet price under $1350.

Awesome! USA or Canada? I live on the Canadian border so that would not be a problem. I doubt it is Canada though, their prices usually are much higher than the states even before the tax.
How did you do it?

Really? Best Buy had that price? Well if that's the case and anyone has a Video Only around you should go there and they will beat the price of any competitor. I'm just extremely surprised that Best Buy has a price like that.

I got my A2000 for $1100 locally in Canada, thought that was a good enough deal.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Yamaha A-3000 vs the Pioneer Elite SC-37 receivers? The reviews I've read on each sound quite good.
so a quick update I think i've narrowed my amp down to the:

Emotiva XPA-3

I can use this to power my FL/FR/Center for starters and let the RX-A2000 power the rest... if anyone has any negative info that might be useful feel free to share!

seems to me like a great buy for the cost.

The other option might be to spend a little extra and get the XPA-2 to power just the FL / FR .... thoughts? I'm looking to buy in about 1 week.

The center channel is the dominant channel in a multichannel system. Anyone who tells you that the center channel is "just for dialog" is dead wrong. So, you should have equal power available to all three front channels, if not have even greater power available to your center channel.

I'm having some problems with my RX-V3000. Did you know if you can select different sources to the HDMI outputs, i have to TV's and want to play PS3 on one and watch cable on the other one.

That is probably the "MAP" price as in "Minimum Advertised Price". as opposed to MSAP, the Manufacture's suggested list price which is higher than MAP.

Something that I've found that is happening & to check for the "real" price, especially locally. Sometimes the showroom will have a lower "sticker price" but not always. e.g. Fry's just have the units marked with the MAP price; in another local discount store say when I'm ready next month (tax refund), they will get me a "good deal". Will check Pacific Sales also as found that they are listed as an authorized dealer(?).

This place is nice as it is a way of getting some real price points; probably a ebay search of the unit may also see lower pricing for bargaining.

Both outputs show the same thing, you can't send two different sources to two displays at the same time.

Yeah I agree, and the XPA-3 is a beast from what I've read.

And after I went through all the trouble to find a decent tight fitting dual banana connector. Color me not happy.

And thanks to the manual, crappy as it already is, I can't use its back panel picture because (thanks Yamaha) the section descriptor orange outline boxes cover the bloody input names. I have to use newegg's flash viewer so I can zoom in on the rear panel.

Who in the hell designs speaker posts to be too far apart for the very commonly used dual banana connectors?

This is going to be a loooooong day, and that's on top of me connecting everything one handed due to my broken finger.

Wish I saw this before now. Oh well, mine just arrived and I'll use wire through the cutouts on the posts for now and order a bunch from mono at my leisure.

Pretty dumb though, been using the same dual banana plugs starting with the 2500....

You can get the RX-A3000 for $1349 from some of the stores (like Electronics-Expo) here in NJ. My friend got that price and I was able to get it matched by my local BestBuy for my purchase. They key thing is that you need to spend some time in bargaining for that price.

I just got back my RX-A1000 yesterday and it 's working great now.
I spoke to a superviser from United Radio NY and he told me they
had to contact engineers from Japan because unit is so new. They
had to replaced 2 digital boards.

This is where I bought my 1000 (electronics expo), I keep checking their site daily but they for some reason they do not stock the 2000.
