Thanks, but I don't really have a use for it. Shipping to Canada is also probably a lot more than you might think it is.

The offer is very much appreciated though, but I'm just glad you were able to get your receiver configured the way you wanted.

Ok cool.

No, I was not mocking you, but being sincere. It was a terrible solution to a problem that didn't exist. Why not a small number in the corner? Why a GIANT black bar across the very spot where subtitles always are? If they couldn't move it, why not make the black bar only as wide as the volume text? It's as if they tried to make it terrible on purpose.

That said, my only other complaint after having this beast for the past year is that I wish it had 9 channels of amplification instead of only 7. As it stands, I find the front presence effect more valuable than the rear channels in a 7.1 configuration (still not a lot of actual 7.1 films), but I would love to do both without needing an external amp. Oh well, such is life. Maybe I'll get a 3020 or 3030 on clearance in a couple years.

3030? Can we get through the 3020's first. I'm still loving the fact that I have a 2010 before the new models come out.

Fortunately I've saved both of the Yamaha M-35 4x20W|2x40W surround power amps I bought around 1990, in case I find myself in the same situation!

That said, if you do end up with an RX-A3020 9-channel configuration some day, you might find yourself suffering 'amp envy' . . . and the urge to 'go to 11.1'...?!

In any event, I expect the better (cheaper!) way to implement the 13+ speaker|channel configurations I hope we'll see in the next few years will probably be by adding some separate power amps to a 9.x or 11.x AVR...?!

Only one sub, what a cheesy setup.

I'll tell you this much... You will get more out of front presence mounted high then with rear channel. Rear presence wasn't all that impressive. But..dual subs take the cake

Unfortunately, as the image is clipped from the status display of an Auro-3D theatrical soundtrack mixing console set to 13.1, the 'one sub' shown is simply a reflection of the fact that (in so far as I know) Hollywood soundtracks are presently limited to one LFE channel...!

If you want two LFE channels (and not just two subs), you might want to advocate for adoption of the full Hamasaki 22.2 speaker|channel configuration as part of the next generation TV standard. If we're 'lucky', the decoders might allow for mixdowns to 5.x, 7.x, 11.x, etc, with a separate choice of whether to retain two LFE channels, or to combine them. Of course, the larger problem is likely a difficulty in finding soundtracks mixed with two separate LFE channels in the first place...!

A2000 hdmi out cable length question. Has anyone had success using a cable longer than the manual recommended 16.5'? I plan on running the 2nd hdmi out to another room and the easiest to route cable would be approx 24'. I can get the distance down to 12' by cutting drywall and drilling new holes. I like easy.

I'm using a 50ft 22AWG CL2 HDMI cable from Monoprice to go from my A3000 to my projector. I have no issues. I could probably get by with a 25ft or 30ft, but I wanted flexibility in placement.

I totally agree. I would just like the two rear channels in addition to the FPR channels. As it stands, I'm running 5.4+FPR.

I´ve just installed FW 3.20 on my RX-A1000. These FW simply destroyed my receiver. The image though is now is totally green and grainy (cable), and for my OPPO BD 93 simply dissapear.

What can I do to solve this? Anyone with the same problem?

Tks

Have you spoken with Yamaha support? They worked with me over the phone a while back when I was having some issues. They seemed knowledgeable and friendly.

I have the A2000 and am very happy with its performance. I've been enjoying the ability to play flacs directly; in the past, I always converted them to Apple Lossless and played them through iTunes (btw, it would be nice if Yamaha supported Apple Lossless, now that it's open source). One mystery that I'm trying to figure out is metadata for flac files. I stream the files from my Mac using a server called Playback. Although there is metadata in the files, it generally doesn't show on the receiver; it's like navigating a computer, since all that shows is a file name. For a couple of my albums, the album cover shows, but on most of them not even that much appears, even on other albums bought from the same company. I know the metadata is there: it shows in XLD when I convert the files to Apple Lossless. Is there something I'm missing that would get the metadata to turn up? It would be nice to know who was playing the music and what the title of the album is while it's playing. Any ideas? Thanks

Apple Lossless now open source? Hey Yammie where's the firmware update!

I've never streamed music from a server to my 3010, but Im assuming all you see is PCM on the LCD readout? Only time I see info across the LCD readout is with USB direct with a flash drive. Even then, it only tells me the name of the song unless I press the info button. Then you can change what it will display, however you only get one line of text.

I think it largely depends on the media server being able to understand the metadata and tell the receiver what it is. I'm using the default DLNA server built into Windows, so I can only see album art on my receiver that Windows Media Player can also see. My receiver doesn't display the album art that's in the format Sony's Media Go uses, presumably because Windows doesn't understand it.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a firmware update with Apple Lossless support. At best you'll see it in next year's models. Since it's a lossless format anyways, you shoud see if you can't find a server that will automatically transcode it into PCM or FLAC for you.

Yeah I'm done holding my breath for an update to the A3000 to be able to disable OSD volume

I have a chance to pick up a rx-a3000 for about $600 ... but is missing the remote and mic. Does anyone here know if the remote/mic for rx-a3010 will work instead? Are they are same for the two models? And do you guys think that this is a decent price for this receiver?

Thanks!

Anyone having problems with the iPad app? Suddenly, it can't consistently find my A200o or my my music file playlists.

Great price IMO if warranty applies. No idea on 3010 stuff working but you could contact Yamaha for replacement A-3000 stuff.

I called yamaha and they wanted $175 for the remote alone, and about $40 for the mic. So the dealer offered to give me 3010 accessories instead ... but i wasn't sure if they would work. The part numbers are different though ...
There probably aren't any differences between remotes. The microphone might be different, but it should work, just maybe not as well as it should if it's significantly different.

Mine is working fine, but have you tried refreshing the app? I can recall in the past my ip address inexplicably changing on its own and causing problems. BTW the same goes for the web controller.

I'm thinking of upgrading my zone 2 speakers to a pair of really nice bookshelves. My question is, can I run a sub with them to get better bass?

Yes, if you get a sub with crossover adjustments. You will run the speaker wire through the sub and back out to your bookshelves, then just set the crossover on the sub. No adjustments in the receiver are necessary since it is already sending full range to zone 2.

Are you saying l/r for zone 2 would go to the sub and then out to the bookshelf speakers from the sub? BTW thanks for the help.

Yah, though the sub would need to have both speaker level inputs and outputs.
