Regarding the post from bdfox18doe: Did the v3.34 firmware upgrade work for you? I have an RX-A3000 and upgraded to v3.34 in hopes that it would resolve the problem with Pandora streaming stopping after playing a few songs. Unfortunately I still have the problem. The picture of your TV with the Pandora screen is exactly what I see on mine.

No it did not..I emailed the product manager in Japan that I made contact with through some professional contacts ..who tells me this:

Thank you for the explanation of a detailed phenomenon.
The Pandora function of A3000 has some limitations.
1)The number of times of Skip (6 skips per hour per station limit) 2)Automatic stop after long-time streaming

Although we investigated the above-mentioned limitations, we were not able to reproduce the same phenomenon.
Would you update the A3000 to the most recent edition (Version 3.34)?
And if some problems still occur after updating, would you inform US support?

Note that I do not see this issue with my Panasonic BluRay player. I do see it on my laptop too..it is a royal PIA
when I travel and want to listen to Pandora in the hotel and get the "are you still listening" male bovine excrement banner..and have to walk over to the laptop to say "YES" . Note that my email to Pandora support on this issue went unanswered. mad.gif

Thanks for taking the time to respond and impart your follow-on activities. I can relate to your frustration. I listen to Pandora on my iPhone all the time without problems. I will try Pandora on my Samsung blu-ray player this weekend.

I don't think my issue is with the 'Are you still listening?' prompt because my streaming stops after 10 - 15 minutes. I'm thinking the issue may be somehow related to commercials being inserted into the streaming. I thought about upgrading to Pandora One to see if this makes a difference. Do you have Pandora One?

I started a trouble ticket with Yamaha technical support a few days ago. They quickly blamed the Pandora service for this issue which is disappointing. However, I will continue to pursue it with them.

I noticed this happened on all my devices. I chalked it up to Pandora creating more annoying things to get you to buy pandora one. Also noticed more ads lately. I fell for it, ugraded to Pandora 1 (for just a month) and the bugs went away.

Ok, this is making me more than upset. (I was always under the impression my room was just a bass vacuum)

I sat my wife down tonight for some fresh ears, front speakers unplugged...only the subwoofers thumping.

1. I have my main subwoofers plugged into sub-1
2. Nothing is plugged into sub two. Usually its just my transducers.

I played some heavy bass music. Went into the configure menu. Went to Subwoofer 2. My choices are use/none. Flipping back and forth she noticed a considerable volume increase when Sub-2 is set to none.

WTH?

I don't know if it's intended, but it does seem reasonable to design it like that. To keep the sound balanced (same amount of bass) when you add a second sub, it has to cut the level on each output. You don't necessarily run two subs to get more bass, you do it to smooth out the bass. If you want more bass you still have to turn up the sub level (having two subs just gives you more head room so you will be able to turn it up if you want to).

Since you sometimes use the second output for your transducers, it seems you should always leave it enabled and set your sub volume accordingly.

I guess the best description I can provide is that at higher listening levels, the sound seems less strained and better composed. If you've ever listened to music at higher levels in which the amp, receiver or speakers struggle to keep up with the piece or song (reduced or compressed soundstage, reduction in separation of soundfield of instruments, loss of detail, etc.), you'd know it when you hear it. smile.gif

As with anything as subjective as this and the myriad of different listening environments and components involved, YMMV... wink.gif -TD

Does anyone that uses a universal remote want to sell me their full size remote (model RAV410) for a fair price? Mine is lost and I'd love to replace it without paying the ridiculous price Yamaha / eBay wants.

WOW thanks. I cranked up my volume and the RX-A2000 it turned off.It did it a second time. After that, it would not come on, only stayed in Stand-BY Yamaha told me to press Striaght button and Power button nothing happened. Yamaha told me to send for repairs. I followed your tone/info/power buttons and it turned on to unprotected mode. I then turned it off and pressed Power button again and it starts up normal now. Wonder why Y:)amaha told me to send for repair rather then tell me what you did. Thanks so much ..Robert J Melchorre

Got a new DirecTV box (their "Genie"), and updated to the latest firmware recently.

Still no 1080i/p support. Very disappointed that one of these companies (DTV or Yamaha) can't figure this out for us.

Does anyone know how much approx power the 3000 has into three channels. Will the protection circuit kick in? Just curious what I'll be left with if I get a 3 channel power amp and leave the 3000 powering the other three.

Seen figures for two channel, 5 channel and 7 channel but not 3.

Why would the protection circuit kick in? What speakers are you driving with it? What levels do you plan to drive it continuously at? What size room are you using it in? I imagine if you were reaching the thresholds of the receiver's capabilities and it reached it's mechanical limitations, sure, it should kick in, but that's what it's supposed to do.

It's got a least like 350hp quad-core thermodynamic tranducer, you should be good to go.

I was just reading that the protection circuit kicks in and limits power to 65w for 7 channels acd. Was hoping for three it wouldn't be the same that's all. I'm sure it will be plenty just was wondering out of interest what it might be.

Ahh... gotcha. I think Gene DeSalla at Audioholics mentioned that in his review of the 3000, but in real world use, ACD is rarely, if ever, going to become a factor . The likelihood is you'll get close to the two channel ACD scenario, but like you said, it should be plenty for what you need....

Here's a quick update. Playing Pandora through my Samsung Blu-ray works flawlessly. Yamaha technical support has completely blown me off as they have stopped responding to my emails about the trouble ticket that I opened. It's very disappointing. I've purchased Yamaha receivers exclusively since the 1980s. It appears they have closed the ticket because I received a customer satisfaction email asking me to rate the service. And I did.

Speakers wired in series / 16 Ω question here:
Manual per page 21 says not to use impedance lower than stated on rear of the unit (A2000) which is 6Ω.
Am I deducting correctly that I can wire 2 8Ω speakers in series per channel in zone 2 for 16Ω safely?

Installing L&R speakers in both bath and master bedroom to run off zone 2 and don't want to deal with an external amp; can't wait to finish this project!

Weird question but is it possible to have HDMI video output but analog audio output or HDMI audio output depending on the source on the A1000?

I have my PC hooked up via HDMI and use HDMI audio for movies via XBMC, but I want to direct my 2 channel music to a USB DAC and then onto the AVR via analog input.

It's been working fine as two distinct inputs but when I change to my analog input (audio 2) I get no video from the HDMI input on the screen, just goes black and then I get the default Yamaha background. Which was fine for my uses until now but now I would like an onscreen GUI...

Use Audio Select (page 58 in the A1000 manual) to specify you want analog audio with an HDMI video source. Then you'll still select the HDMI source (not audio 2) to get the analog audio.

To avoid going into that menu each time you want to switch between HDMI and analog audio, you can set up two scenes and then do the switch with a single button.

Ive tried that but still nothing... how do i tell hdmi input 3 (my pc) to use analog input 2 for audio... or are they paired somehow so i would have to plug my dac rca plugs into whatever audio inputs on the back that are paired with Hdmi 3? the audio select just says analog, but not which analog input it will try to use?

ive got OTA tv to work alright with audio 1 such that iget hdmi video and audio but that was with optical from my atsc tuner on the Tv. i basically want to do the same thing but with hdmi 3 and rca plugs (though i do also want to use hdmi audio as well on the same input).

Yes, like billmich just said, you have to use the same numbered AV input for the analog cables as the HDMI input. e.g. AV 3 for both.

Pandora is cool because it'll play songs you like that you would have never thought of listening to BUT you have to nurse it. If not, it can really stray off... 2 1/2 more hours (i'm at 18,590 minutes so far) of Net Radio for 13 days straight! (kudos to SKY.fm for a steady stream and Verizon FiOS for no Internet interruptions what so ever.)
