Just today in fact:

Quote:
There have been plenty of rumours in the past about whether or not Batman: Arkham City would feature a multiplayer mode, but those rumours how now been thoroughly quashed in a recent interview with the game's director.

Speaking to IGN, Sefton Hill said "let me start by saying, once and for all, that Batman: Arkham City is a 'single-player only' experience."

Yeah, but his comment was posted in September 2010, the thought then was that it will have a MP. I'm glad they debunked it, though.

Release date: October 18th.

these games don't need mp. glad they didn't add one just to fit in with everyone else. but that october release date is a bummer. was hoping for an august release like asylum.

First they gave Harley Quinn a slutty re-design in the first game, and now they are replacing the actress who has done her voice perfectly for eons. BOOOOOOO!!!!

Quote:
Arleen Sorkin pretty much owns the role of Harley Quinn -- well, she did. Sorkin, who helped create the character in the early 90s on Batman: The Animated Series, won't be voicing Harley in this fall's Batman: Arkham City (despite carrying on the role in the first game). Instead, veteran voice actor Tara Strong will take her first stab at Harley.

Strong has been doing cartoon and video game voice overs since the late 80s. Some of her roles include X-23 in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Rikku in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Sheegor in Psychonauts. She also voiced The Huntress in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series.

A brief Q&A with Strong has been posted on the official Arkham City site, in which she says she wants to "honor" Harley's established voice -- but until we actually hear her rendition, we can't help but morn the loss of Sorkin.

Harley Quinn has always been my favorite villain in the Batman universe. Not good news at all.

Disappointed as well. I wonder if Strong will attempt to mimic Sorkin's established voice for the character or go in an entirely different direction.

A bit of good news, however, Amazon is offering a $10 credit for pre-orders of the game.

*** E3 2011 Update ***

The game will allow you to play as Catwoman. Check out her slinky moves in this trailer:

Quote:
We've already known for some time that Catwoman will be playing a major role in Batman: Akham City, but that role is much bigger than we originally thought.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was such a huge hit, that Rocksteady has incredible pressure to pull out all the stops to make sure they follow that up with a sequel that's bigger, better, and battier than ever before. They've chosen to make it 5 times bigger than the original, with 40 hours of gameplay, and included a huge roster of characters.

Batman has been known to associate with Catwoman as well, and while her exact plot role in Arkham City remains undefined, we now know we'll be able to play as her throughout the game. Unlike the playable challenge portions of the Joker in Arkham City though, she'll have upgradeable armor and abilities, and her missions will be involved in the story line of the game. Catwoman and Batman have an interweaving relationship throughout the game, which involves manipulation and deceit from the feline thief, while she uses Arkham City's situations to her advantage. She will be a completely unique character built with her own full move set, which involves new traversal moves for the cape lacking character to get around with, like a ceiling climb and parkour skills. She has her own unique way of kicking enemies faces in too, while also using her trusty whip, and a set of bolas to incapacitate enemies at a distance. Don't worry that Batman will have a diminished role in all of this either, since Catwoman's missions will be playable as approachable side missions, and her entire narrative is only about 10% of the game.

It's also been noted that as Batman fights his way through the city he'll encounter more intelligent enemies which attack simultaneously, requiring more complicated countering within battle. The detective mode is being rebalanced as well, so that once enough information is gathered using it, players will want to turn it off for the normal visual cues around them. More information on this, and some shots of Catwoman in action are available at GameSpot, but be sure to stick around here too, since we'll be sure to learn all we can when Batman: Arkham Asylum is shown at E3 this coming week.

her redesign was totally fine. that whorish one piece deal she used to wear needed an update. i thought the new look fit her character very well. but this voice change is unacceptable. easily one of the most recognizable character voices out there and they ditched it. almost sounds like an april fools news story. that's how stupid it is.

Personally I think the redesign is more whorish then the original. Lace and garters in a short nurses uniform, vs a one piece covering ever but of flesh?

As long as it's a high pitch Jersey/NY accent, you can't really go wrong. My guess is after the run away success, she wanted more money, or just had some other conflict with timing.

Twelve minute gameplay demo in HD. At minimum watch Catwoman showing off a ton of cool fighting techniques at the beginning:

OPM australia gave it a 10/10. only 6 more days until this inevitable masterpiece arrives.

"Batman: Arkham City is not only the best superherp game ever made, it's one of the best games ever made full-stop. It takes the already superlative original and gloriously expands on it. It's a deeper game, more complex, more inventive, more mature. It brings the caped crusader's world to life better than any comic, movie or television show before it."

"Presentation: Endlessly creative, perfectly moody, and technically flawless. This is Epic's Unreal engine pushed to its absolute limit."

"Sound: Alternatively foreboding and frantic, the game's orchestral soundtrack matches the on-sccreen action perfectly. Voice acting is brilliant."

"Controls: Complex and initially overwhelming but also logical and responsive. It'll take a while to get used to them, but once you do it feels perfectly natural flinging Batman around."

"Replay Value: Immense. A massive main quest, dozens of side missions, Riddler challenges, secondary game modes, and DLC will keep most people occupied for months."

"VERDICT: We can't imagine how a superhero game could be better than this. Absolutely sublime."

Looks like a must play, but I'm going to wait on it. With Dark Souls and UC3 soon, there is just no time. Plus the PC version was delayed, so might just get it in 2012.

This will be a rental for me. The first one was really good, but not very replayable. I played it on Hard, which really wasn't that hard. I would have gladly played through it again if there were a higher difficulty level or a more challenging way to play (MGS style with no detection, for example).

I waited on Dark Souls so this and Uncharted 3 are day one purchases for me this month. At Amazon you get $10 credit with a pre-order so I'll go with that one.

Kmart is offering a $30 game coupon and a t-shirt with purchase if you are a member of the shop your way rewards program (which is free to sign up).

For Arkham Asylum, the PS3 had exclusive Joker missions. Does anyone know if either the 360 or PS3 is getting exclusive content again?

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
No counter icons on thugs
Different Thug Levels: tougher thugs are available from the start of the game
Different Thug Configuration
Increased difficulty Bosses : Bosses will be even more cunning

plus that review said that the main quest is massive. so i think it's a must buy.

Also, you can't use the special wall-hack vision skill to noobify the entire game. That's my favorite improvement.

It seems like New Game+ is just Arkham City's version of Hard mode. Regardless, I assume by + that weapons/armour/upgrades transfer over, thereby potentially making it easier. In AA, when you played on Hard with similar difficulty changes as described in the IGN piece, you started from scratch.

I agree. I don't really see this being just a rental either, even if you aren't a completionist. But then again, I've never been one to plow through a main story line just to get a quick turn around. Never seemed worth the bother.
I hear you can buy a code for a PC version cheap on eBay due to it being free with Nvidia cards.

My thoughts exactly. Makes me think Hard mode has been dumbed down even further than it already was in the first game.

And don't get me wrong. I really liked the first game a lot. My only complaint was that there wasn't a truly hard mode (IMO "Hard" was much closer to "Normal," even compared to most recent games). It didn't take long to get all the collectibles along the way on the first run, so there wasn't any reason to dive back in for another run. And judging by the above, it sounds like they've made Hard mode even easier than it was in the first game. For example, it sounds like counter markers appear even in Hard mode (since one of the "features" of NG+ is that those aren't there).

I'll definitely play it, but I'm just as definitely not rushing out to get it at full price.
It'll definitely be a positive thing being able to start the game with the gadgets you unlocked in the previous playthrough, as you will then be able to experience it differently the second time.

Is the combat system any better this time around? I liked Asylum but the combat was brainless and boring.
